Steak & Whisky
Appetizers, main courses and side dishes were fantastic. Desserts were nothing special, would not order dessert again, but that's OK because you will be full from all the other delicious items. Don't miss the house bread with honey butter and the onion rings. Small wine list, but the wines we had were wonderful and reasonably priced. The whiskey flights were a nice surprise. It was a quiet Sunday night when we went and the ambience was perfect, quiet with a nice breeze from the open front door. Due to the hard surfaces I can imagine it might get noisy when crowded, but did not experience that.
Great assortment of steak entrees and - you guessed it - whisky. The food was delicious. Everyone had clean plates at the end of our meal, which was surprising since we had a few particular eaters in our group. While it took longer-than-normal for the food to come out, the casual atmosphere allowed our group to relax and enjoy our conversations. I would've liked our server to have known more details about what was offered. Our server was very pleasant and tried to be helpful, but wasn't able give some details about the drinks & entrees because she hadn't tried it.
Love the look, feel and taste of S&W! Viola is fabulous, feels like we’re at a friends home when she is on. A bit disappointed the bacon wrapped meatloaf is no longer on the menu. We will be back.
Amazing amazing amazing steak!!!
Everything was great except a medium Ribeye was over cooked... SQ
Visiting from Jordan...
We love this little steak house in Hermosa. It’s a Nice atmosphere and if you’re in the mood for a good old fashioned and a nice steak, this is a good place. We were a little disappointed that they were out of Knob Creek bourbon because it’s our favorite for an old fashioned. The filet was awesome, the Brussels are my favorite and the service was great. The ribeye was ok, but we love to cook a good ribeye so I’m not sure any can match up to our homemade. You should check it out and least for a drink and a good time.
First time here. Definately will be coming back and recommending it to friends. Had the brussel sprouts; amazing. Steak was cooked to perfection. Great seating at the counter if you like to people watch. Best part was the service. The manager, female, knows about all of the drinks, whiskeys and bourbons, and pairing with the food was excellent. Goodtimes...
Best steak in Hermosa Beach! The Osso Bucca is amazing. The ambiance and service is outstanding too. Try the bread pudding for dessert.
Overpriced and not worth the money. I will say, they did have great service. I ordered the tuna tartar and it came with 8 small chips. I also got the S&W burger and fries (both were sold individually) and they were mediocre for $24. My friend ordered the shrimp cocktail that came with 5 pieces of shrimp for $20 and a steak that she said was decent. For two people...dinner and drinks was $194 plus a $40 tip
This was our first time there- which is crazy because we live in the SouthBay and dine in Hermosa Beach all the time. Needless to say- it won’t be our last time though! It was off-the-charts amazing! Every dish was prepared to perfection and we had the service of a lifetime with Viola. She guided us on what to order (hint: definitely try the Brussels sprouts! ). Such a memorable evening. Can’t wait to come back!
Outstanding food and service in a friendly, small pub environment. Enjoyed the craft cocktails, wine, and filet mignon. Can't wait for my next visit.
Excellent food and service. Jack and Valerie provided professional, knowledgeable and courteous service. Great selection of spirits and flights are a good way of trying/enjoying them.
Great food and service ! Hidden gem of Hermosa pier!
Gem of a place, wonderful casual ambiance and decor, lovely menu, great music. Only critique is that beef tartare could have been better seasoned.
SLOW service... Really good food, but for God's sake hire some more wait staff
It was our first time there. Service was prompt, warm and inviting. Food selections felt fresh and something to look forward to. I had the lamb osso bucco- tender and flavorful- with cauliflower risotto- very tasty. We shared a nicely presented butter lettuce salad. The salmon was crispy crusted and tender inside- beautiful. Wine list is pretty limited- hence an extensive whiskey menu. Great night.
Great atmosphere - fun, feels good - staff was wonderful - food over delivered.
The server was fun with lots of energy. The menu had a nice variety and the food was quite good.
What a friendly staff, outstanding food. Worths it a new visit!!
We’ll be back, for sure
Dave was an Awesome server!
Awesome food, great atmosphere and a character as a server. She was excellent.
Food was excellent!
We love S&W...disappointed we were denied a larger booth because we we only 2 people...we had e reservation and requested booth at that time...told they couldn’t seat in the booth ...saving it for larger parties...we were in and out before any of the three open booths were occupied. Our drinks were comp’d for service recovery. We’ll definitely be back...always have excellent experience when Viola takes care of us.
If you are lucky enough to have Grant as your server, trust his guidance. The burrata appetizer is delicious, the wedge salads are huge, steaks are fantastic, and be sure to get sides if you order the sea bass.
Didnt have the entree that we wanted. It was my birthday celebration so it put a damper on the evening. Some dishes were not good. Dessert was also not done well.
Service was very slow. Food from kitchen slow, waiter did not keep us informed of why it was taking so long.
Let me just start with the fact that I've never been to a Whisky Bar. Having said that, I made reservations for 6pm on Feb 15 for the wife and I.
Let's start with parking, it'ss limited, so be prepared to drive around for a minute.
Once in, we were greeted almost immediately and seated right away. Our waitress, Viola, was very friendly and pretty funny as well. Suggested a few things and let us browse the menus.
We weren't too sure what to start with, so with some help from Viola, we ordered a Sazerac for both of us. All I can say about the drink was WOW! Really smooth and very flavorful! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
For appetizers we just had House bread, which is almost like a biscuit. It was SOO good, and served with honey and butter.
We each ordered the Prime Ribeye, 14 oz, Dressed. (It also comes Naked.) It was very flavorful. And I had another Sazerac with dinner.
For dessert we shared the Bread pudding. Also, very good.
I only have 2 things that prevents me from it a giving 5 🌟 rating. The Ribeye was a little on the tough side, and it's not very well lit inside, making it very difficult to see the menus.
All in all, I will definitely be back to try it again and I would recommend this place.
It was great. Service was great. The food was amazing.
This is our second time going to Steak and Whiskey and they have exceeded our expectations and cooked all of our food perfectly! I love steak and whiskey and I feel like this restaurant was made with myself in mind, complete with the campy outdoors vibe and amazing whiskey options.
Unfortunately the service was awful. This was our first visit, our son just moved to the area so we were looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate. Our server was completely inattentive and it was very slow. He just was not into his job and his body language and over all attitude was unfriendly and made our dinner a subpar experience. The food was good, not great. Both our steaks were cooked correctly and the sides were big portions, it was just kinda blaaa. Great location and decor. We would not return with so many other great choices in the immediate area. Very pricey but we expected to pay for great food; disappointed. Hostess was sweet, I must add.
it felt so freaking cold inside no heating !! food was OK
Good and ambiance were great, as usual.
Keep in mind if you order the fish entrées, the portion of fish is very small so if you’re hungry, a steak is a better option.
We were late, but I called and the hostess was a gem because she saved our reservation for us. Our waitress was also the bartender, and she gave great tips on what whiskey to try and was attentive to us despite being very busy. The stars I bumped off were for the food. It was okay, but I did expect more for the pricepoints. I don't think the lobster mac and cheese even had lobster in it, and my medium cooked filet mignon was a bit tough albeit the "dressing" (which cost additional) was very flavorful.
This was our second time eating here. Super cozy and great decor. It reminds me of a quaint Texas restaurant. The steak and lobster were outstanding. I got the butter poached lobster again. The Brussels sprouts were also very good! We got great service this time around. Overall I give this a 5 star rating! We highly recommend.
My wife and I love this place, try to come here once a month or so. Ambiance is nice, an elegant neighborhood steak joint. Can be noisy, but never a problem. Wait staff super-friendly and knowledgeable. Steaks are perfect. Great salads, we love the brussel sprouts and onion rings for sides, Key Lime pie for dessert. A heavenly meal. We love whiskey, but don't generally drink whiskey until after the meal, if at all, so we wish they had a more extensive wine list. A few more pinots and cabs and a merlot or two would be nice.
One of my favorite restaurants. The service is impeccable and the food is even better. A must try.
We've been going there since you were open. Service has been going down hill. Service this time exceptionally bad and rude. Unfortunately it will be our last visit there.
6:30 reservation and restaurant fairly full. Placed order which one of which was fish. Two items were already crossed off the menu. After our appetizer arrived our server said they were out of the fish. Not good that early in the evening. Bad planning on their inventory which didn’t impress me. Service was average and so was the food.
I've eaten here a few times and I love it more every time. The service is great and the food is amazing. I love a nice dark place.
We all did the 4 course option which would've been a great deal had the food been acceptable. The fillet was riddled with fat and gristle. A very very very poor cut of meat that would barely qualify for a sirloin in a real steakhouse. It was smothered in a gravy that was hardly palatable. Our friends ordered burgers that they barely touched because the taste was so poor. It's unfortunate because we've heard mixed reviews for this restaurant and thought we'd give it a try. I don't think we'll be returning until a new chef is brought in.
