The staff go above and beyond to make you feel special and the food is delicious
My husband and I went for our anniversary and were very pleased with all aspects of the restaurant. The food was delicious and our courses were fun and had a depth of flavor. The hush puppies were Devine. The soft shell crab was sweet and perfectly done. Our server, Dominique, was a vibrant personality who was informative and efficient. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
They remember you and they really try to make you want to come back. The area attracts both patrons that you enjoy sitting next to and those that behave as if their priorities are the only thing that matters. For the quality of food and how much collective effort they seem to put into service, I’ll put up with the over privileged to dine here as often as I can😁
Check in was efficient, we were seated immediately we got there. Our server Dominic was exceptional, he went above and beyond with his service and added greatly to the experience we had. He has truly mastered the art of customer service. Every dish he recommended that we tried was delicious, all dishes we had we enjoyed. It was an experience to remember and more so because of the exceptional service by Dominic.
Excellent szechuan eggplant; the main reason we go there.
Went with my wife for date night. She absolutely loved the dedor/ambiance, it felt like we were eating fine dining in the roaring '20s. Cocktails were delicious and the house yeast rolls with sweet butter are wonderful. We shared the half chicken which was delicious, only complaint is that the mashed/creamed potatoes it came with were a bit cold when we got our food. Overall great experience though, will definitely be going back with friends and trying out the brunch!
Every meal we have had there has “been outstanding. We love this place.
Excellent cuisine. Katy was an outstanding server.
My server was Jacob, such phenomenal service, i will definitely be back
We enjoyed the best dinner last night ! The food was delicious & the service was even better. Our waiter was helpful , friendly & so professional . Not many restaurants have such great ambiance .
Dominic was a very friendly and polite waiter and made good informed descriptions of the dishes. Food was excellent. State of Grace was the last restaurant we ate at just before the pandemic shutdown and one of the first we have now eaten at since being vaccinated. It was great to see that the restaurant did not lose a beat!
Absolutely delicious with outstanding customer service. I highly recommend the crawfish enchiladas and cheesy grits!
Service was outstanding
This was the first time I have eaten at State of Grace. Carl our waiter was wonderful! He explained the dishes as well as offered suggestions which were delicious. The bread and hush puppies were my favorites. The manager stopped by and visited about one of the dishes. This was a great experience and will be back!
The martinis and the raw oysters are amazing every time.
Food, service, ambiance - all top, as usual! Steak was perfectly cooked and worth a trip to Houston.
Fabulous wedge salad and soft shell crab! Oysters are great! Only suggestion is that server didn’t tell us only certain oysters were happy hour pricing and the menu leads you to believe all are - if you want happy hour oysters, ask which ones are part of it! Also, ran out of the wine we ordered and while they let us know, it was after we had already tasted it and we felt like we had to drink it. Overall great menu, meal and atmosphere!
We had another wonderful experience at State of Grace last night. Everything was delicious as always. Especially the pork! What was that sauce? Yum. I think everyone who worked there knew it was our anniversary. We were greeted with “happy anniversary” from everyone we came in contact with, and were seated at what I now know to be the best table in the restaurant. The view of that tree is spectacular. The cookies on the way out are always one of my favorite parts. Highly highly recommended this restaurant!
For a Monday night they were out of Bread, fish, pork, and tequila. What we were able to order was good. The manager was aware and apologetic, and offered a dessert, however we were done at that point.
Great service from Dominique! Great food and ambiance
Food was amazing. Maurice, our server was beyond helpful with great suggestions & insight to the menu. Great time had by all!!!
My husband and I had a quick last minute date night without the kids. We have always had great food and service here at State of Grace, and again they did not disappoint. Our server for the evening was Morris. He was so personable and friendly and attentive yet professional. We started out with Sunset cocktails. Shared the State of Grace which was a huge HUGE seafood tower. They no longer provide the half version of this. The oysters were all the same. Before they had a variety of oysters from all lover the place, but all in all they were fresh and very tasty. The shrimp was a little over cooked and a bit rubbery with the Cajun seasoning. But the lump crab and other two items on the tower were fine. Lastly my husband and I had the best cut of 8oz. Rib eye. It was cooked perfectly medium rare but not too rare or too medium. The steak was seasoned very well so we never needed the additional sauce it came with. We were so stuffed we didn’t have room for dessert this time around. On the way out, we still got their famous whoopie pie to enjoy at home, complementary to all guest of course. Overall great culinary experience and happy customers.
We had a lovely early dinner. We ordered everything at once but they spaced our dishes out perfectly. Would recommend for a several course meal
Excellent experience. Mitchell was our server and did a superb job—very personal and professional. the manager stopped by and shared some updates on their joy and starting to be back to normal. Highly recommend a visit.
We went for brunch. The restaurant was ready for us and servers were really attentive. The food was really more expensive than expected and the menu was not quite as robust as we saw online. However, it was really good. I would go back - when I am in the mood for an expensive brunch.
Wonderful food, great food, loved the ambience and decor. Great for a lovely first date. We missed out on the to go ginger snaps but overall a great evening.
Great spot , super cool decor, great service and a fun , delicious menu. The drinks were spectacular! A must try restaurant
Brought my in-laws from out of town here, and they loved it. We will definitely be back- the service was great and the food was delicious. The only thing I can think of that can improve would be the valet- there seemed to only be one driver working on a Friday night, so it was pretty crowded. Otherwise- everything was fantastic.
Food is delicious and service always outstanding!
This is one of my most favorite restaurants in Houston! Never disappoints. Oysters were spot on. Shared a pharmacy burger which was great, classic thin, double patties with mustard and onions. Wish the fries would have been crisper but the Bernaise sauce rather than catsup was a nice surprise - the fries for dessert. :-). Oh and we each had their version of an Aperol Spritz. Really nice, light and refreshing. Much love to SOG!!
Completely nailed it! Everything about this place was perfection in the most accessible and comfortable way. A true Houston diamond. They (the creators) live up to the name of the restaurant in the most authentic way.
Our server was sweet and helpful truly impeccable service.
The food tho… omg everything, I mean everything that was placed upon our table was cooked to perfection or mixed sooo well. The drinks , the bread , omg the bread lol…. Outstanding job State, hands down best.
Excellent as always in every respect. One of my favorites in Houston.
Fantastic restaurant. The food was amazing and the service was impressive. We went there for an anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint.
We celebrated our anniversary at State of Grace this week -- it was incredible. The menu is vibrant and changes with the season. We enjoyed the iberico pork secreto and the spinalis steak. It's hard to believe anything topped the steak, but the ham dish was next level. I was super glad the wife was happy to share a bite or two. We started with oysters and shrimp cocktail, followed by burrata toast and lasagnette, and ended the meal with the blueberry cake. Our server, Jacob, was a fantastic tour guide through the menu and carefully considered his recommendations based on our input. It was a 12/10 fantastic meal and we will absolutely do it again. Soon.
It is a wonderful space with unique food and wonderful service...
Excellent service. Food delicious- from appetizers to desert. Looking forward to next visit!
Awesome! Food and ambiance extra special.
Exceptional all around. We were seated within minutes after arrival and introduced to one of four very qualified waitstaff that served us throughout the evening. We ordered cocktails and the crab hushpuppies. The cocktails were amazing; you can tell the bartenders there are well trained. The hushpuppies are a "must try" item that met all expectations. Our entrees included the Iberico Pork Secreto, Snapper on the Half Shell and the Diver Scallops. Everything was delicious. Portion sizes are very ample and the sides are all sharable. We shared the House Fries and the Venetian Black Rice.
There is a very large and inclusive wine list with reasonable selections that won't break the bank on up into the highest rated stuff. There are wines by the glass selections on the menu, but be sure to ask for the full list.
We shared the Blueberry Pudding Cake for dessert, which was enough for 3 adults.
The noise level is "energetic" but no so loud that you can't hear others at your table. The table spacing is not too close and not too far apart.
This is a great place for birthdays, anniversaries, fun times with friends/family as well as entertaining out of town guests or clients.
We will definitely return.
Great fresh seafood. Good selection of oysters, wine, and entrees. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of the oyster swlection and gave a great tip of ordering the kimchi eggplant to accommodate the oysters. Was a pairing along with the wine. Will be back soon.
