I had only been for lunch, my friend had only been for lunch and my husband had never been to State of Grace. Everything was fantastic! The service was especially great-just enough attention but not overbearing.
We will be back for dinner again soon!
We are fairly new to Houston and finding great restaurants is our quest. We may have found one of our favorites. State of Grace was excellent. The octopus was the best we’ve ever had. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. The service was great and our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful with his recommendations. We’ll be back!!!
It was oysters happy hour, it was great
To say the meal was life-alteringly good might be an overstatement, but I remember life before having the octopus and I don't want to go back to that state. And while the food alone is enough to justify many visits to State of Grace, you would be a fool not to partake from their cocktail list which has nothing but first round draft pick quality concoctions. Not only are the food and drinks nearly unbeatable, but the service should be the gold standard all other restaurants seek to achieve. We've dined many times and would recommend every employee we've ever encountered. Somehow you just can't go wrong here - with ANYTHING! But, if you're somehow not yet convinced, the gingersnap cookies they give you on the way out are worth the price of admission. Seriously. Do not under any circumstance decline the gingersnap cookie on the way out.
Ps. If you are still on the fence about checking out State of Grace, go at lunch time for dollar oysters. ::mic drop::
Food was top notch and the service was better. We sat at the bar because we were early for our reservation and ended up eating at the bar. Loved this restaurant and would be back in a heartbeat.
What a fabulous place. Just lovely. Chefs bar are very romantic, the rooms are beautiful, the food terrific and Dominick a dream of a server. Go! Get the queso shrimp and the crab hush puppies and the burger is one of the best in the city. With or without bernaise frys.
We had two coworker bday and we’re treated amazingly. Our waitress already knew about our gluten allergy and that it was someone’s bday. Top of the line service and super friendly.
Service was OUTSTANDING!! had about 3-4 different people come to our table of 9 guests! Thank you
Food, service, ambiance all were perfect. One of the loveliest restaurants in Houston. Our group arrived for brunch and were promptly seated in my favorite rooms in the restaurant, the green draped room behind the reception desk. The brunch menu had both standard brunch fare and some food with a Cajun flair like the blue crab hush puppies and begniets. Service was excellent. Love coming here...
This was one of or possibly the best dining we've ever had! The service was exceptional as was the food! We were treated like royalty! I would consider this the top restaurant in Houston!
Great food combinations, Texas style. Outstanding service!
Great romantic restaurant with great staff! Definitely would recommend to anyone!
This has become one of Houston’s greats. I’m probably not the best judge of value because if I like something and don’t feel like I overpaid, I consider it a good value. State of Grace is expensive, but it doesn’t disappoint.
Delicious food. AMAZING service. Well worth the experience.
$1 Oysters? Hello!!!! Great bar scene.
Probably the best service we have received in a while. Very attentive and they really went out of their way to make us feel Comfortable
We had a great experience. The place was very eclectic and cute. The little room we sat in was very cute and personal. The staff was very attentive and the little cookie when leaving was the cherry on top!
We will return again and plan on getting more of those deliciously fresh oysters!
Anniversary. Loved our waiter.
Everything was delicious. The Smoked Chocolate Sunday was incredible as was the service provided by Nicole.
Best restaurant for a date period. Amazing service, amazing food, romantic atmosphere.
Food, service and atmosphere were excellent
Oysters had a really nice selection
Baked oysters with a hint of smoke are worth a try
Caesar Kale, - superb - big enough to split. - great taste and texture even fir the non kale lovers
Texas Redfish - cooked perfectly and with the great saucing was a complement to the fish not a distraction
Save room for desert - Sticky Toffee pudding with the
Molted Milk ice cream was one of the best deserts we have had in a long time- great texture and flavor for the stick toffee pudding, not overdone.
Would definitely be back
Shout out to Paul V for his excellent service
We had an anniversary lunch there. Overall it was a very pleasant experience. The waitress was super nice, food was good....a tad bit salty on the chips and fries (chips on the lobster roll and fries on my husband's fish sandwhich), but the main part of the meal was delicious. And the oysters and hush puppies were delightful! It was our first time there. We'll definitely be back!
We loved everything about our experience!
Awesome service and amazing food! The waiters were so incredibly nice! Definitely going to go back!
We are regulars at State of Grace, but yesterday was a special evening to celebrate my fiancée’s birthday. Needless to say, everything was delightful, from the best-you-can-get in Houston oysters to our crab finger favorites.
We then indulged with their house made blood orange sorbet—such an expected surprise—hope it stays on the menu for a while.
SoG is a must if you’ve never been. Thanks again for a wonderful evening.
Came on a Sunday evening. At first I was very disappointed that they only have a Prix Fixe menu that they call Sunday Super but it ended up being delicious and a great value.
First time and will not be the last
Sunday is a set menu so would like to try during the week
Excellent food and service
Staff was totally scarce towards the end of the meal - ie didn’t seem them after the food was delivered. Waited a long time to find someone to deliver the bill
Great new find for us. Layla was our server and she was a delight! Seems every person working there takes an interest in every occupied table, making sure you have what you need, etc. And they do this without being intrusive. Loved the lobster roll!
Would be perfect if it weren't so loud that conversation can be difficult.
Excellent food and service. Definitely worth visiting
Great atmosphere, wait staff was so friendly and the food was delicious!
Even with the Astros game on, this place was busy, loud, and full of young hipsters. Food is outstanding. Try the octopus, kale salad, or oysters to start. The duck carnitas for 2 was more like for 4, but itwas flavorful. Can't go wrong with fish selections. Wine selections are actually reasonable if you order from the back of the menu.
Continues to have interesting menu with good value
Fantastic as always. Drinks, service and food were unbelievable.
Miserably cold in the restaurant even for the gentlemen in my party
Great food and atmosphere as always
We didn’t get very good service unfortunately
The food was so so
Excellent food, wine menu, service, and atmosphere. Just delighted with everything they have to offer!!
After reading the reviews we made a reservation while visiting Houston. We entered waited at the host stand, after a few minutes of seeing no one, I walked into the main bar area and asked if the host was present. She arrived shortly after and seated us directly in the rear of the back dining area. We noticed they were not overly busy for their Sunday supper. After a few minutes or waiter approached said he would bring out biscuits and jam and he would be back soon to take our order. After several minutes of watching him tend to other tables I asked if he planned to take our order. We ordered an upper level Chardonnay as my wife was ordering the chicken I requested if the wine was not very cold then we would look to order some other wine. My wife ordered fried Chicken and I ordered Chicken Fried Steak. After about 5 minutes he came back to the table to tell me they were out of Chicken Fried Steak. I found this was quite odd because they only offer five items on the Sunday Supper menu and we do live in Texas. I ended up ordering the chicken. A few minutes later he brought out the biscuits, (Two) these were uneventful. After another 5 minutes he arrived with the ordered wine needless to say it was room temperature and placed in an ice bucket to cool. When the meal came I agree the chicken had good flavor however the three sides we chose were small portion, the Broccoli was saturated in some type of soy sauce or heavy salt product and was not palatable, the roasted Okra was good with good flavor and the Mac and Cheese while not baked had the consistency of Kraft. From what we felt inside the restaurant it must be a good place however we were less than impressed for the Sunday Supper. Primarily due to service and thinking family style you we be afforded more choices.
