State of Grace
This was our second time dining here. We love State of Grace! The crab hush puppies, red fish, and lamb are our favorites! We are always too full for a formal dessert, but the ginger cookies they give you when walking out the door are AMAZING!
Great service, the fish was cooked exactly as it should be..
Consistently excellent food and service! Thanks for your friendliness and attention to every detail!
We wanted to try someplace new and State of Grace did not disappoint! Oysters were excellent, and the shrimp dish with sauce was amazing!
Been here a handful of times, everything is always delicious. Lovely designed space, extensive cocktail and wine list and oyster menu. I was unaware of fixed menus on Sundays (there are some things on the regular menu that I always order that were unavailable) but that is my fault for not checking before booking. Really one of my favorite spots in the city. It was my birthday, so the only real disappointment was the small dessert size and lack of choice from the fixed menu.
Everything was great. This has become one of our favorite restaurants in Houston.
Excellent food. Overall great dinning experience. Highly recommend
Absolutely a place to go. I had my 40th Birthday celebration and had a fabulous time. The food was excellent and the service was awesome. They even put balloons for me as requested. I totally appreciate them taking it a little further as requested. The staff was very friendly too 🌸
Definitely come to the Happy Hour and do the $1 oyster selections. I saw the Seafood Tower at the other table, and I think that's what I'll try next time. Our server and the person brought our drinks from the bar both were super nice and very attentive. On your way out, don't forget to get a cookie!
I love this place - have been multiple times, but the quality is slipping. Service was very slow, main course came out almost cold. It was a Wednesday night, so no excuses. They need to lift their game.
Have to echo others' here about the service - we found it lacking. Terrible seating for a table of 5, slow to be served ordered cocktails (7:30p on a Wednesday). Overall a subpar experience.
Phenomenal! Awesome culinary experience deeply rooted in southern gulf coast cuisine. Oysters were great, duck, redfish and octopus are all must haves!
Overall it was ok.
I used to love this place but the service has deteriorated a lot lately. I doubt I will return.
Thank you for a great Mother’s Day experience! The food was amazing, cocktails lovely, fire grilled oysters were perfection, service and hostess were beyond great! I appreciate so much your accommodation in preparing my son a delicious Hamburger off the menu, I remain a loyal fan of State of Grace! One of the best places to dine overall in Houston
I made a last minute reservation to bring my mother here for brunch on Mother’s Day and so glad I did! As a frequent diner, the service and food here exceeded the quality of many other restaurants I’ve dined at recently. The menu offered a well balanced variety of options consisting of Cajun and Latin influenced dishes. We ordered the roasted oak oysters for our appetizer, my Mom ordered the lobster roll dish and I enjoyed the crawfish benedict. It was an overall fantastic experience; wish I had tried it sooner and I look forward to returning to try the dinner and oyster bar menu.
Great food and atmosphere however can be a little loud.
A great people watching spot. Outstanding service, Thanks Whitney and Dominique! The food was delicious and presentation superb. Can’t wait to go back
Awesome. Great place and food
The food is Devine! Everything was perfect!
We had the hush puppies, which is always yummy. The Shrimp Ala Plancha was amazing!
Food was good - portion was smaller than previous visits. Service could have been more attentive.
Great atmosphere with pleasant “buzz”. Service was just poor. The waitress tried to rush us into ordering while we were trying to enjoy cocktails, that came dribbling in one at a time. One of our selected entrees was no longer available. Then appetizers were delivered at the same time as entrees. A manger managed to sort it all out but not before we lost the enjoyment of the meal. Food was fine once all delivered.
Incredible food and cocktails. Highly recommend the lamb.
Exquisite cuisine, lovely staff, and an ambiance that's to die for. I wouldn't hesitate to make a repeat reservation.
Just so loud. They need some sound absorbing panels. To sit there and scree because some women laughs louder then a normal person I would have enjoyed it more but way to loud
Our server (a tall gentleman) was friendly, prompt and professional. We came in for the soft shell crab as chef Bobby Matos has earned a well deserved reputation for serving some of the best in Houston. Though I prefer the old dish (a sandwich), the "tacos" were fine as a knife & fork version. Let's not kid ourselves, they're not tacos (you can't possibly pick them up to eat), but who cares, they are delicious. Chocolate cake is impressive. Josh does an excellent job as FOH manager. S.O.G. is still a top notch dining destination.
Wonderful. The service and food were exceptional.
Brunch at State of Grace was wonderful! So many choices on the menu, we had a hard time deciding what to choose. We will definitely be back!
Anniversary. Always enjoy SOG. True gem of
The food was more than expected. Amazing service. Highly recommend
The food is unique and it was prepared very well. If you like this style of cooking you will love this restaurant.
I was really looking forward to eating at State of Grace. I absolutely love LaLucha and expected a great experience. The food was just okay - possibly influenced by our choices and my exceedingly high expectations. There were few bright spots. By item, appetizers first: the roasted oysters were not seasoned as well as I expected - I did not get the garlic and butter flavor. The Queso Oaxaca was very good - the tortillas, the cheese, the shrimp - all yummy. We had three entrees - Pork Schnitzel, Pharmacy Burger and the redfish in a shell. Pork Schnitzel was good - nice crust, and the mashed potatoes were the best thing on the table. We previously had a Pharmacy Burger at LaLucha - this one was not as good in the eater's estimation. The redfish was okay but I expected a great deal more based on the description. The Sticky Toffee pudding was a hit with the husband and his sister. The Berry Crostata pastry was just warm instead of hot, crispy, and flaky. I like the beautiful interiors and the window over the bar is the best feature - that tree! I will be back for another try - I will give some other dishes a chance and look forward to another cookie whoopie pie - excellent.
Waaaay toooo loud. Nice wait staff and good/interesting food, though.
Went to SoG from a birthday brunch and it was amazing! Food was exceptional and wait staff very attentive and took excellent care of our table. One of the best brunches I have been to in a very long time. Very charming atmosphere as well. Looking forward to my next visit already!
The gumbo was amazing and all of our drinks were outstanding! Our waiter was new but, you couldn’t even tell. We raved about him to the manager who seemed to get compliments like this often.
Beautiful ambience, quaint and comfortable.
Aa a party of 4, we were seated at a banquet and were unable to chat comfortably. We were permitted to move, so I was grateful.
This place rocked. Really hit on the culture of downtown Houston with an awesome atmosphere. Definitely worth the calories
