Over the moon about this place! Took my husband there for his birthday, it was our first time there. Our waiter was amazing, very knowledgeable (I wish I could remember his name!) and treated us like we were his only table. In fact, everyone on staff was incredibly nice. The free foods that they give out...I would pay for...they are delicious. We are big oyster lovers and these were quite possibly the best oysters I've ever had (we had the parmesan garlic ones from the app section). We also had the kale/boquerone salad, the red snapper, the pork schnitzel and the HUSHPUPPIES (!!!) All, to die for. Husband said red snapper was one of the best fish he's ever eaten. Get to State of Grace now, you won't regret it. And do yourself a favor and do not forget the free homemade gingersnap sandwich on your way out!

Absolutely amazing restaurant. It is so refreshing to eat at a restaurant that takes pride in the quality of good, quality of the staff and ensuring their customers are 100% satisfied. This place provided service with a smile and after a few bites of the food - you are sure to smile as well.

State of Grace is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. Delicious food, great wines and the best oysters I've had in Houston. The experience was great as it always is.

Goose was an excellent server! So knowledgeable about menu items and wine pairing.
Also, I want to mention Desiree. She recognized my husband and I at our last visit and came over. She was also such a great/knowledgeable and personable server.
The hush puppies are a must.

Kitchen is sooo slow, as is service in general. No oyster forks given with oysters. When requested, was told they were probably out. Kale salad was terrible. This is the 3rd time in a row the service has been extremely slow and subpar. I won’t be back anytime soon.

It was our visit. Chris recommended a great wine while sitting at the bar. Ended up having dinner there. Loved the hush puppies and the soft shell crab. We will definitely go back.

The restaurant was very busy at 6:30 pm so I took that into consideration. The worst part of the experience was the indifferent welcome from the young folks manning the reception. They then took us to a banquette-type, booth table where you are practically sitting on your neighbor's laps and having a private conversation was impossible. When we asked to be moved to a real table (due to the height of the table) the reaction was immediately negative. Later the manager did come over to explain and that helped soothe the rumpled feelings, but the damage was done and the poor seats put a damper on the whole dinner. On a positive note, the server was delightful and the food was well-prepared. The menu was not a diverse as I expected. Expect a casual, bistro menu with crowds, noise and stress.

Had Sunday supper here and was also first time eating here. We opted for the fried chicken which came out overdone. The side biscuit was burned and uneatable The Mac and Cheese was made with Velveeta, which I'm not even sure is cheese. The service was very good and the restaurant is quite charming, but the best way I can describe it that they are just trying to hard to be different, for the sake of being different, but it all just doesn't come together. Dinner with a bottle of wine $126.00

The whole place was awesome! We had reservations but decided to eat at the bar. Bartenders were great, suggested great cocktails, Oyster samplings, and main course. People were dressed nice and the place was just welcoming.

This is our second time to SoG and we were again very pleased. There is something special about each dish that goes above their completion--for example--Wild Boar Bolognese!! Only disappointment was the the berry crostada was only lukewarm and the dough was mushy.

This was my first visit(wife had lunch here a couple of times). Wow! I was impressed! Firstly, the restaurant has a super cool ambiance. We had a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. Then the amazing service begins. There are waitstaff everywhere and they support each other all night. Our waitress was awesome! We would place an order with her, then someone else would bring the order to the table as soon as it was ready. This applied to drinks, appetizers, and everything else. We had 7 different people serve us.
The food: oh my. We had three appetizers, hush puppies, enchilada, and queso. These were all excellent but the hush puppies are truly unique and a must have! Entrees ranged from a hamburger, a pasta dish, and a seafood tower. Food was amazing. There are several more dishes we will try in future visits. And on the way out, they gave us ginger snap cookies that were divine.
This restaurant is now in my top 3 for Houston because of all of the above. It is very well managed. We'll be back for sure!

Crab hushpuppies to start are outstanding. My wife loved the roasted oysters as well. I had the pharmacy burger which was excellent. The fries were good but not as crisp and hot as I prefer. My wife had two items off of the starter menu - the skillet brussel sprouts and the enchilada, both of which we enjoyed.

Grits dish should always be served. Wine list was missing vintages we preferred. Wait staff should be more knowledgeable regarding oysters. Team waiting is appreciated. Gulf seafood—a la seafood gumbo with ocra—should be emphasised. I’ve patronized the establishment at least 11 times this year, so one would hope my comments are taken seriously. Thank you.

We had an excellent time; starting with a dozen raw oysters that were fresh and delicious. The menu recommendations were on point. We had the duck carnitas and the beef rib; which were both delicious.

The food exceeds our expectations.

The drinks at the bar were delicious and our food was amazing! The bar tenders were very knowledgeable but almost seemed territorial over who served us. Again, dinner was DeLeon IOU’s. We had the kale salad, scallops and a pasta dish and they were all plated very beatifically and very tasty. Our waitress was not the friendliest but would definitely go back!

This was our first visit to State of Grace. I see why this is one of the restaurants that constantly pops up as a top restaurant in Houston. Our waiter was fantastic. He was attentive and offered us suggestions when asked. We had two pasta dishes and the fish. All were delicious. We tried the enchilada side on a whim, and it was fantastic! We plan on going back for their Sunday Supper next.

Amazing food and service. Our waitress walked us through the menu and gave recommendations along the way. I let them know we were celebrating a birthday and they brought us champagne to toast and a dessert. We will definitely be back!

Oysters, Chicken, Snapper--fabulous Southern cooking accompanied by friendly, attentive service and a great selection of wines and cocktails. We love being able to get the East coast oysters that are so small and savory served with an assortment of sauces and a glass of sparkling wine for the perfect pairing. For the vegetable aficionados the broccoli prepared in a tangy sweet/sour sauce evokes an asian flavor and the brussel sprouts are seared to bring out their natural sweetness that is complementary of the snapper. The Kale Caesar is tangy, with parmesan, croutons, chicharones and mexican sausage bits--a meal in itself. All in all it was a wonderful meal and felt like being at home with a great chef and good service.
