Food was good and reasonably proced
The reservation went we when we got there because our table was ready immediately. We ordered a cathead biscuit because we saw it at another table and I had a San Luis seafood platter. The biscuit was a tad dry and the seafood platter had 3 shrimp and a half of catfish for dinner. It was tasteless and lacked flavor. The onion rings were tasty and so were the hush puppies. My spouse had a fried chicken sandwich and it was tasteless as well.
Absolutely the best food and service! Our waiter was adorable, fun and made sure we had everything we needed! Love State Fare and look forward to our next visit!!
You can always depend on State Fare for a solid dinner.
Service was seriously awesome and the food delicious beyond words…. Fried Oreo desert to finish
Hear me out, hear me out.
Well, it was my second visit with State Fare-Memorial and my friends first… It started a little rocky with the switch-up on the waitress who passed us along to the lovely, Leslie but was still serving/waitressing for another 40mins following. By the time Leslie got to us with a sweet-welcoming personality my friends mind seem to have already been made up. Needless to say I tried to keep all neutral and comfortable (smh).
We ordered the frozen flights and I tried Rambler sparkling water for the first time. Let’s just say won’t be my last run in with it, as I’ve been a longtime fan of Topo Chico you just don’t want problems when visiting an establishment that is preparing your meal). Chef Hernandez was quite professional and accommodating but also followed up throughout our dining with warrant of satisfactory from my friend and the table overall. He even brought fresh fries for me when my friends newly ordered meal; as he noticed I was waiting to eat my food but snacking on my fries while her food was being prepped.
Conversation was exchanged with the Chef learning of his expertise and passion to make sure all is well when any course of meal, etc. leaves the kitchen… and the dining experience turned around for the better.
Shoutout to Leslie & Chef Hernandez for putting up with my friends shenanigans! I appreciate you both!
Service is amazing! Food is great! I am from San Antonio and I will be back when I come back to Houston.
Great experience! Junior was our server and he was nothing less than phenomenal!
Food was good, a bit pricey for how much we were given but it was good.
Crab cakes are yummy! Dirty rice delicious! Onion rings side was HUGE. Dad liked the hamburger. Saw our neighbors getting huge delicious looking salad.
Great service awesome food!
The waiter was so nice and attentive. The food was fresh and delicious. The lighting at our high top table was a little too bright for my liking, But the table was nice and spacious. My picky teen didn’t like what she ordered and they kindly allowed her to pick something else. My younger ones wanted to customize their order and it was accommodated. There was too much sugar in the Brussels sprouts and while it was delicious and we ordered two, it could have been just a little less to be healthier. Overall a really good option for local dining in memorial. Thank you!
We arrived at State Fare Kitchen & Bar with no expectations but just for having some bar food. Unfortunately the restaurant was not really welcoming and it appeared as other people have already waited for some time to get seated. The staff wasn't really friendly and directed us to an outside seating are which we requested. Upon the question if we can get one of the 4 empty tables in the section the waitress told us that she can't seat us there because of some serving area definitions. Well... That was the start and with good service and nice food we would have been happy. Food-wise you can expect the standard / typical "bar food" with Appetizers, Burgers, ... which are totally OK - nothing special at the end. Our waitress was trying to make up for everything but the restaurant appeared to be either understaffed or forgetful about the outside seating are or everyone is just fairly lazy. Based on the waitress we have seen my opinion would be "understaffed". She tried her best and was absolutely kind which we appreciated. However it was impossible for her to keep up with the orders and provide a proper service timewise.
As bad as it sounds we can only recommend the restaurant for people who are neither hungry at the time they arrive nor mind seeing a server every 20 minutes.
Food wise the restaurant is OK and the price matched our expectations.
Very nice atmosphere food was great
Ambiance was nice food was immaculate
Good but not outstanding. Convenient free parking available in close-by garage structure. Annoying that the VALET spots are right in front of the restaurant.
I was excited about coming here I heard great things about it. Our sever was a nice but she took a long time to greet us and and long time to bring our drinks. We had two babies with us and it took over 30 minutes just to gets drinks on our table after we had sat down. Then the slow service continued through out the whole meal. Not that we were in a rush , but everything took forever it turned us away from ordering another drink. I probably won’t be back. Just order to-go!! The food was great
Was my first time here and honestly loved it. Portions were huge and the drinks were amazing. I got a bloody mary flight, a frozen flight and mimosas and looooved it! They were extremely busy so I feel like service was a little bit slow but I honestly didn’t mind because we were catching up with friends! will definitely be back again! keep up the good work guys :)
Very good place, food is on point. Well recommend
Brought my friend here for Sunday brunch. It was her first time but it’s one of my favorite places. Food and drinks were amazing as usual but service definitely wasn’t as good as I’m used to. Overall great experience though.
Food was good but the place was very loud and hard to hear.
Food is alright. I was expecting super savory food but it was average. Tasted like ihop food which is definitely more affordable. Drinks look pretty but are average as well. Just a dolled up ihop with high prices
Food was good as usual. Service less than stellar. Took forever for drinks to be delivered and waiter forgot one of them but I believe he may have not heard the order due to not actively listening. Gumbo was ordered by 2 in the party, waiter said he would bring a taste to ensure they liked it. This was never delivered and the gumbo was served at the same time as the entrees. All in all, not what it was on previous visits.
Great food and lots of choices
Everything was fresh I will recommend this place
huge portions, really tasty, great value, friendly environment
I became sick as soon as I made to my house.
We were a tad bit disappointed in the host staff. We arrived early had sent a request and when we asked the front host her reply was less than friendly and her eye roll was especially appreciated
We were seated quickly once we arrived, however, it took almost 15 minutes before a waitperson came by to check on us and take our drink order. I ordered a rum punch or Mai Tai, whichever the bartender could make. It was good but came out in a short cocktail glass, which I’ve never seen before. The gumbo was good, with a lot of depth in flavor, though the Roux is probably too dark for most tastes. The turkey wings were smoked but were dry and lacked flavor. The sweet greens salad was good, but nothing special. The cornbread muffin was served in a mug which made for a good presentation but was very difficult to eat as once removed it just crumbled. The jalapeño butter was good but was cold and hard making it impossible to spread on the crumbling cornbread. Overall, Service was a bit on the slow side. The restaurant was only about 2/3 full, however it was extremely noisy. We were seated at a two top table. Adjoining tables were only about 3 feet to the left and right of us, a little close for these Covid times and impossible to have a private conversation, or really, any conversation at all. The Astros were on TV, but all of the TVs on the east side of the restaurant kept flipping in and out, Making it very difficult to watch the game. I’ve eaten here many times before, for both lunch and dinner. My two previous visits were both very good. But I have to say this was the worst visit I’ve had to date.
It is very loud so I picked the wrong place to catch up with friends. Our waiter was great but they were short staffed.
Food was good. Selection was great
HIGHLY recommend the jalapeno hush puppies! The pork chop was also delicious; however, the sauce that came with it was too sweet for my liking.
Food was okay- service was slow and uninspired.
This is a casual place to eat... fine if you want something a little better than Chili's
Nothing special, but no frills and decent food.
We had a wonderful night out at Memorial State Fair Sunday night. Loved the flight of drinks and the Bacon deviled eggs! Three great choices from the restaurant week menu, for appetizers, entrees & desserts. Especially loved the large bread pudding. Regular menu has a large variety of burgers, and so much more.
Our waitress I believe her name was Cedilla was so nice and very attentive.
We loved the cocktails
Went for Houston Restaurant Weeks 2021 and ordered from that menu. Husband and I ordered the Deviled Eggs and Jalapeño Hush Puppies for our first course. We LOVED them! So good. We were so confused why reviews had said the food was flavorless!
Then… the second course came. We ordered the Chicken Fried Ribeye and HTX Hot Chicken. The breading on the CF Ribeye was okay… it was really only good with the gravy. The sides with the CF Ribeye were honestly forgettable. Like, I literally just had to think for a second about what I had with it. Bland mashed potatoes and green beans. I’m not sure what part of Houston the HTX Hot Chicken is based on, but I’m guessing the Neiman’s in the Galleria because that was the whitest, driest chicken I’ve ever had. No spice, nothing. So underwhelming. It came with cauliflower and diced potatoes, and the cauliflower was honestly the only good thing on that plate as it was covered in a cheese sauce.
For the third course we had the Fried Oreos and Bread Pudding, and those were fantastic.
Overall, it was kind of “meh”, but I honestly think we just have to find something on the entrée list we love. Places are popular for a reason, and State Fare was poppin. Will we go back anytime soon? Probably not, but I’m definitely glad we got to try it.
Enjoyed my visit and had a good lunch. Appreciate that we weren't rush and could enjoy a long lunch catching up with a friend.
Great experience for myself and kids! Food was good as well as the service.
