State Bird Provisions
If there's a better restaurant in San Francisco, I haven't found it. Great fun and incredible food make for an amazing experience.
The dim sum style is so fun. We enjoyed trying out what we saw. Not the best food I’ve eaten, but very good. I’d come here for the experience more than the food.
Your restaurant is one of my favorite restaurants on this planet, and I am a well-traveled professional chef. My only critique is the noise level. It is so darn loud in there, it was difficult to have a conversation with our four top. You guys really need some sound dampeners. Just dont change one thing with your food please
Took our friends here who were visiting and it didn’t disappoint. The food was awesome but the staff really made it. Friendly, knowledgeable and always ready to help. I would go here every week if I could.
Amazing Food! Great Staff!!
Absolutely fantastic experience - everything from the food to the hospitality was top notch.
State bird provisions is an exceptional restaurant, probably my favorite restaurant in the city
Yummy food...lots of little bites served dim sum style
Incredible experience yet again 🤷♀️
The food was to die for- every dish was so unique and delicious. Had been trying to get a reservation forever and finally got one. So glad because it really is one of the best restaurants in San Francisco!
It’s just plain fun!!! So many bites—all amazing!
5 stars! Only complaint was not being offered all of the tapas. Some of them skipped out table.
unique original with amazing food and service was fantastic and very approachable nice and accomodating i want to eat here everyday
Food could be creative in terms of spicies and variety
Overall a pleasant experience, food was ok, some good dishes. not worth a star in my opinion, some food very under seasoned. Prices are on the slightly high side of fair
Such a fun experience! So different. Surprised to find the restaurant buzzing early (5:30) on a Monday! Enjoyed the variety and quality of the dishes offered. Will definitely go back.
I love the Dim Sum style coupled with California cuisine. The food creations are very interesting and never obvious, I particularly liked the use of spices tobenhance the dishes
Epic! Very noisy and energetic crowd; variety of unique dishes cooked to perfection, great wine list. Reservation is a must!
The food was spectacular!
I checked the reservation system frequently about a month in advance, could not get a table for the weekends around the New Year. On Jan 1 morning, finally I was able to get a table for Jan 3, realizing that you get a better chance a day or two beforehand, since people made reservation 1-2 month ahead due to its popularity, and cancellation comes out 1-2 days ahead.
We arrived about 30 minutes ahead of our reservation time, checked in and were able to sit down at the table after 10 minutes. We were lucky to be assigned the Nest table, a unique "open room" in the dining hall. The open kitchen is great for viewing the cooking process.
The food is like "Americanized dim sum" small plates, with about half of the choices on the menu to be ordered and half to be delivered with explanation by the servers on trays or carts, making it a very interactive experience.
I love most of the items we ordered: mushroom toast, fresh oyster, octopus, sparerib, lamb sausage, black sesame turnover, peanut milk, etc. The state bird provision is a little too dry for me, because I am not a fried chicken lover.
Overall, it's a great experience worth the effort.
The much anticipated dinner was incredibly disappointing. The carts and trays followed the same path and we were excluded a number of time from some dishes we wanted to try Very small portions. Probably better for a couple than a party of 4. I had a bowl of cereal when I got home to satisfy my hunger and extreme disappointment.
2nd time here - extremely good with inventive food and great service.
Food was okay not the best I ever had in my option the steak was super good the dishes passed around were not that good
The food was really good and the service was outstanding! Lots of unique dishes to try
We've been coming to State Bird Provisions frequently since it's opened 8 years ago. That is when we can book a table. Which says a lot about its excellent product. Most restaurants do not survive a few years. It was amazing to celebrate New Year's Eve having great food and at midnight wonderful Staff served complimentary glass of champagne and Stuart was kind enough to stop by our table and we had a nice conversation.
This place is magic, I tell you. MAGIC. M. A. G. I. C
I've been waiting 5 years for a reservation at State Bird and this past New Years Eve was my chance. I was really looking forward to a unique experience, but sorry to say, it was very disappointing. As an experienced fine diner with an open adventurous palate, I expected to be wowed. All of the elements are in place--local fresh ingredients, energetic staff, but none of this translated to excellent, delicious food. All of the dishes were weird and forgettable, what did we even eat? Cold ribs, lukewarm stringy steak. No passion or love in the cooking was detectable. Did I miss something by not going years earlier? Seems like a place to impress your friends with a reservation, but no one will leave feeling great.
Amazing food and service wow wow
Unbelievable dining experience. Try anything that comes your way
The more the merrier so you can sample and keep sampling. Such a wonderful experience with delicious food and fun concept rolled into one. Where do I begin- trout dip with homemade chips, yum. Bagna cuda toast was so tasty on milk-like bread we just had to order 2 and then later one more because we were still thinking about it. Pancakes fluffy like blinis. Then small black bean ribs filled with umami flavor. Individual dumplings a bit more chewy but filled to the brim in a soothing broth. Jerk Octopus so massaged they were tender as if they were served in Japan. Truly medium rare steak served on a platter with wild mushrooms and greens. Miso greens a bit tart to balance out all of the savory. Cod tail so delicate and rich, just peels back from the bone. And egg nog dessert and a tapioca filled granita. Can’t wait to book another reservation.
Extraordinady in every way!! Wonderful experience!
This was my second time going to State Bird. The first time it blew my mind, this time meh. The food was beautiful but not as delicious as I remember it. The octopus was my favorite dish, I didn’t have it my first time. But it was the most memorable thing this trip. I remembered this dip then made and ordered it when it came around and it was so disappointing. Also the scallops were at market price which was astronomical for only two scallops. Same with their state bird dish, the price is too high for those tiny pieces of quail. The service was good, but everyone seemed to be low energy. All in all I’d give this trio a C, I didn’t realize how hipster this place was my first time around. It just seemed a little pretentious. I’m gonna give it another try soon, just to be sure it’s everything I thought it was the first time. This time missed the mark!
State Bird rocks! Phenomenal, creative food and fun engaging servers
I was very excited to visit State Bird again, I have eaten there before several times and have always enjoyed the flavours of their novel cuisine. This time however, I was slightly disappointed by my experience. The food wasn't as good as I remembered it. Nothing tasted outstanding as it had before. The pork ribs were very gamey, and my favorite, the madelines with duck mousse pate was not as good as before. They had some new dishes which were quite mediocre. The hog island oysters were my favorite. I don't think I'll be visiting State Bird again for awhile.
Fantastic experience, so much fun. I didn't realize the servers would come around with food, like a dim sum restaurant. We loved it. And everything was delicious! Our new favorite place. Understand now how the line is out the door!
Second time visiting this restaurant. Great, fast and fun service but this time with not as much variety in dishes. Still it was a very good experience
Really great spot. Definitely recommend it. Enjoyed the variety available in the small plates
An originally conceived, theatrical, imaginative dining experience both in food and service, STATE BIRD is one of the finesse experiences we’ve ever had! Do not miss!!
The restaurant tries a lot of Chinese cooking methods; but not very good. Pork to lean, meat are all old and chewy. But beef tongue, dumpling, bird is okay. Overpriced definitely. Like the ambiance and service style; but the dim sum comes slow and sometimes you can’t get any
