Absolutely one of the top restaurants we’ve dined out at period, and we’ve been around some of the top cities for food! The atmosphere, presentation and food were all phenomenal. Concept of part al la carte style and dim sum style serving was great and so much fun! Can’t wait to visit again from the East Coast!

Had a late reservation for 10:15, wasn’t aware that the service ended at 11 so much of the unique experience of this restaurant was lost. If you plan to go, I suggest arriving at 930 at the latest so you don’t have your night cut short. Disappointing but the food was good.
Chef does a great job creating new combinations of food that I don’t see elsewhere. Makes me want to come back explore the restaurant more!
State Bird is one of the first restaurants I went to when I moved to SF six years ago, and after many visits it’s still a favorite. The food and wine are excellent (the pork belly is fantastic, especially during pluot season), and putting together a full meal one dish at a time is always fun.
Food was amazing. The service was excellent. We had SUCH a good time. The waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. He made some wine suggestions and gave us samples. I found my new very favorite wine. We loved the sample size dishes the team brought around. It's so fun to nibble and try many different things instead of committing to one main entree only. The only negative was that we had another couple sit very close to us - the tables were only 2-3 inches apart. I would have like more privacy. Overall it was a great time and we'll be back.

We picked our foods from the carts and trays that came around - nothing disappointed. Had the ice cream sandwich and milk shot (woah) for dessert.

I love the dim sum concept of serving creative American food. Portions are large enough to share, although I ate the steak tartare all by myself. Tables are not private,Lyft situated, and room is very noisy so it was difficult to converse, but we enjoyed the meal.

Love it! For me is a new concept but really enjoyable because you can try different things without overeat. The mix of flavors and textures are AMAZING! Totally recommended!

I have been a huge fan and was looking forward to my third visit in as many years. But almost all of the dishes we had just ... weren't that tasty. Maybe this was just chance - we were trying to choose non-spicy dishes for my visiting mother. But many dishes were just unremarkable - such as a tempura fried squash with a very mild cheese sauce, or a very heavy fried bread with burrata within. Had it been my first visit, I would not have returned. Service, ambiance, general vibe were great, as always.
It was so loud that we couldn’t enjoy the excellent food and service. There are grouped time seatings to accommodate the carts rolling by with food offerings (in addition to ordering off a menu). So the mass seating and overall flow seems it would never allow for a quieter period. Our party of 4 seated at 5:30 could often not hear the server describing items on the cart. Great food but can’t enjoy amidst the roar.
Love it best choice in San Fran. Must go while in the city. Be sure to make a reservation before hand
Food was so delicious! We had a great night enjoyed the fried anchovy, the state bird, the tempura squash, and the dessert was out of this world!
Arrived at 5:20 for our 5:30 reservation and was pleasantly surprised at the quickness of seating for all of us waiting for the restaurant to open. Even those waiting to sit at the bar got seated.
Enjoyed the quick service of drinks when the first small plates came out, and had several which quickly took the edge to fresh our hunger. (All restaurants should do this!) Only ordered two main dishes off the menu. Especially enjoyed the “dim sum”-style plates of Korean ribs, tomatoes with balsamic over humus, cheese-filled blintzes, and mushroom ravioli.
We all ordered dessert, and agreed that the best was the peach-blackberry cobbler with whipped cream spiced with just a hint of pepper.
Excellent experience, well worth the Michelin star. Definitely not ambient, if you want that, go another place. Lots of delicious dishes, difficult to say no to anything. Good value for money, we even got the book!
What an experience dining at this restaurant is! I recommend you go in open minded, and say YES to everything!
The food was amazing!! Unfortunately my wife was allergic to some items which didn’t show right away but revealed themselves later in the night. I would definitely go again but it is quite expensive.
Servers come by with a tray you can pick an order from. By the third tray, we had to give up. No taste in either of the foods we picked. With three small plates and 2 wines, the bill was already at $68. Sorry, but really wasn’t for us.
Meal with entertainment. Every few minutes a server came by with another interesting dish. You really have to pace yourself. Food was inventive and tasty. Look forward to going again.

Loved the Din Sum style approach for modern cuisine. The small plates were all excellent and made for a really fun and fantastic meal.

perhaps my 5th time at this restaurant. I swear it was the best meal yet. Fun, inspired, delicious food for the eyes, mouth and stomach. Foodie's delight.
Great service. Engaged, attentive staff. Sitting up at the counter to watch the chefs was great. Food was outstanding. Definitely a dining experience. Perhaps not for everyone as is best to share and pick and choose from a variety of plates, but we loved it.
