About Stafford's Pier/Pointer Room
With more than five decades of premier dining along Harbor Spring's waterfront, Stafford's Pier Restaurant is a northern Michigan dining icon. Its views of a historic yacht basin are stunning, and its utterly unique "over-the-water" setting makes it a wonderful destination for locals and visitors. Indoor and outdoor dining are available, and lunch and dinner menus at Stafford's Pier Restaurant include a blend of options.
The emphasis is on the fresh Great Lakes fish, but Executive Chef Robert Sargent creates other Stafford's Pier Restaurant classics. Complete lunch and dinner menus are available online, and the details of this historic establishment are intriguing.

Stafford's Pier/Pointer Room Ratings and Reviews
Excellent appetizers including the Oyster Rockefeller. Whitefish on the plank has been a family fav for over 15 years. You wont be disappointed with other perch and walleye choices. The view is always a hit and outdoor dining is a plus in the summer. I'd recommend the bar scene for a cold one, a hot toddy or any of value specials they have though out the summer. Only disappointment recently was the onion rings but, why would order these here anyways. Enjoy!
We went to the Pier on Christmas Eve. I reserved on Open Table and did not realize it was a buffet. I would not have gone if I had known that as we don't particularly like buffets, especially on a holiday. However, it had a nice variety of appetizers, a salad, a couple of entrees and a nice dessert bar. Great if you like buffets!
This is our 4th year taking 3 generations of our family to the Christmas Eve Buffet before church. Everyone gets what they want and all is delicious. We are happy to be able to enjoy Lake Michigan and have a special occasion dinner with family over Christmas.
Four of us thoroughly enjoyed our dinner this past Monday. Our server Chris was attentive but not overbearing. We enjoyed appetizers (the Creole shrimp is to die for), New York strip, Whitefish and scallops were all wonderful. They remembered it was a birthday and put a candle in the creme brule. Will dine again and tell everyone how wonderful Stafford's Pier is!
We always have a consistently good meal here at the Pier, as well as wonderful service. Food arrives in a timely fashion, is hot and very tasty. Menu doesn't change too often (which would be nice if it did) but you can always depend on the walleye and pasta dishes to be excellent. Views of the harbor are lovely with boats galore!
Our favorite spot in Harbor Springs, The Pier offers stunning views of the harbor, exceptionally skilled wait staff and a satisfying array of menu items expertly prepared and presented. We always take friends who are visiting, and always get rave reviews for the choice.
The Pointer Room at the Pier, has always been a class act. There are few places in the world, even less in Northern Michigan that has the ambiance, and location to dine while looking out over the harbor and the magnificent boats.
Any Stafford's restaurant will surpass your dining expectations, and they have a number to choose from throughout Northern Michigan. That's why, when my wife and I decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we chose the Pier. This was our restaurant of choice while we were dating. Over the past few years, we have not taken the opportunity to dine here, and therefore we were looking forward to this occasion.
We were graciously met at the door by our hostess. Soon we were escorted to our table back in a corner, but high enough to overlook the restaurant and the harbor beyond. Not ideal, but workable. In my reservation, I had requested a window table, and this was not it.
We were then greeted by our waiter, who quickly offered the wine and food menus, and shortly thereafter took our entree order, and the dining experience commenced. My wife chose the salmon, and I chose the perch. Both were good, but not great. And although our waiter was cordial, he was preoccupied. We weren't looking to make a new friend, but his inattentiveness, seemed insincere when attempts at conversation were made while serving us.
I would definitely eat here again, but I would most likely come for lunch, and choose one of their sandwiches. The Pier's evening atmosphere has changed, from a romantic rendezvous, to become more of a friendly, family, party restaurant, which matches their lunchtime. There were a number of large table groups, of family and friends, and it was obvious, they were also having a wonderful time. The Pier still operates like clockwork. Meals and service were delivered promptly.
My wife and I were not disappointed, we enjoyed the food, ambiance and ourselves celebrating our many wonderful years together.
The host tried to seat us AGAIN at an "undesirable" table even though there were window tables available and we had a reservation. I told the host that we wanted a better table and he was not happy with our request. We tried to call to make a reservation but there was no answer which is why we used open table.
My wife and I have been celebrating near or on our anniversary at the Pier for 20 years. THe food as always was excellent but we were disappointed at the changed menu. I never expected to see hamburgers and onion rings on the menu at the Pointer Room; sure, outside or in the Chart Room but disappointing to see that one size( menu ) fits all. I think that this has pushed the dinninf experience down a notch closer to some of their competitors. We have always chosen the Pier because of the food qualiy and feeling of elegant dinning.
Our food was quite good but we were disappointed in the lack of variety, esp. in the fresh catch category, no Ahi, no swordfish, etc. It appeared that the prices have been reduced slightly to reflect the downturn in the menu and for that they are to be congratulated. Hope enough people feel as we do and Stafford gets the message.
We were looking for someplace nice with good food as we just arrived to start our vacation. The menu has lots of variety that handled even our most discerning eaters. Everyone in our group made comments about how the food was hot. The view was wonderful as well. We will return.
The view is lovely and the ambiance very pleasant. But our waiter rarely came to our table to check on drinks or offer bread. He was however very attentive to the tables around us that presumably were going to have larger tabs. The salads were very good and my husband was pleased with his perch dinner. I ordered the Salmon medium well and it came out kiln-dried.
I ordered gluten free pasta in a marina sauce with vegetables. What I received was a bowl of sautéed peppers and zucchini. When I pointed out to the server the discrepancy she said the chef said something (?) when she put in the order and "I guess he ran out of gf pasta".
No apology or an offer to replace with another entree.
Restaurants shouldn't produce Gluten Free menus unless they are committed to providing gf food and properly training their staff.
We were so disappointed with the service. We've been here several, times and this is unusual. The server never came to check on us, practically ignored us. My entree was not right but I never got a chance to tell her because she never checked on us. I tried to not make a scene but she kept apologizing. The manager came to speak to us and offered us a free dessert. I just wanted to leave.
Stafford's Pier - Pointer Room is just an excellent Restaurant to eat, have fun with friends and enjoy the great surroundings of Harbor Springs Michigan. The Service, Food, hospitality and piano music during dinner was tremendous making the Pier - Pointer Room the perfect place to enjoy a wonderful meal with the complete ambiance package for a special dinner or just an ordinary evening out with with the family especially if you are foodies. The bar area is a hoppin hot spot on the weekends and a great place to meet friends or make new friends in a separate area away from the Pier - Pointer Room Restaurant.
Our realtor in Petoskey recc Staffords to us & we were mostly* pleased with our visit there for dinner. The two entrees--which included whitefish & an evening special "Taco plate"--were fresh-prepared and excellent, and the service was relaxed-but-outstanding. Since the ambiance was memorable, w. prices quite reasonable, my wife & I can see why the "haves" And have-nots of the Harbor-Springs/Petoskey region consider this establishment to be something special.
*w. the only downside--apart from being there at the wrong time, and season, to enjoy the restaurant views of Little Traverse Bay--resulted from one rather loud [free-spending, drinking & bragging] diner at a distant table. I guess clueless/classless behavior knows no class boundaries...
Lovely ambiance with terrific views of the pier out giant windows. I noted in our online reservation that our party was celebrating birthdays and both the hostess and server (without reminder) wished us Happy Birthdays and brought a special treat after dinner. Very thoughtful. Food was delicious. Hope to return again.
