Dependably superb! St. John's has a talented young woman chef and an equally talented young woman sommelier. The creativity and presentation of the food always delights, and the wine list has unique surprises as well as well-known standards in a wide range of price points. The well-trained wait staff is attentive but not intrusive. Perfect evening!

The staff was warm and welcoming. We had the halibut and it was perfectly prepared. The Creme Brulee was great for dessert. The atmosphere was nice and quiet, making conversation easy.

The restaurant was very nicely set up with white table linen and wineglasses on the table. The seats were very comfortable for dining and the waiting staff were exceptional. There is an extensive wine list which runs from 30 dollars up to many hundreds - but there are many good value wines on their list. The menu has some excellent starters - we chose crayfish, and the mains covered a range from seafood, through steak to venison. While this restaurant is very popular for birthdays and other special occasions we found it to have a very relaxed atmosphere. This is some of the best dining we have had in our month long visit to America.

Awesome food and service... The Beef Tartare was fantastis as were the scallops. A bit noisy for my taste but the food and service far outweighed the noise level... Perhaps it is quieter upstairs as we were seated on the main floor... We will definitely return and try some other things on the menu as it changes frequently...

We ordered beef brisket, brussel sprout and beet salads, carrot souffle, millionaire's coffee, all topped with a bottle of bubbly. Remarkable smokey flavors in the brisket and salads, and the beef was perfectly pink and tender- all outstanding, with an unusual presentation, particularly with the beet salad. (Must Try!) The only dish we do NOT recommend was our dessert, the carrot souffle, which was far from a souffle, although it does visually resemble one. It was heavy and lacked flavor- a disappointment. Dessert selection needs improvement and upgrading for this caliber of dining. Would love to see a REAL chocolate souffle- so hard to find anymore; yet, I can order superb ones frozen by mail from Chesapeak Bay (800-282-2722) that I toss in the oven for 25 minutes, and are 5 Stars everytime, without fail. Why can't you find these on fine dining menus anymore? But despite this criticism, this is a wonderful dining experience, and the exceptional service from experienced and polished Joe, our waiter, was a highlight as well. We loved our table for 2 by the window upstairs overlooking the street, the white linen tablecloths (also hard to find anymore), and the tasteful background music (live piano would be preferred, but it was still romantic). Hurry and go, because Joe will be leaving by the end of the year to pursue a whole new career in engineering. His finesse will be sorely missed- he really knows the art of pouring champagne! :)

We have eaten at St. John’s multiple times over the years. The food is always delicious, the atmosphere is always relaxed, and the wait staff is always attentive but not overbearing. I only wish we done there every week!

Great surprise birthday for my husband. They even printed Happy Birthday on our menus at the table. The food was delicious and the service was beyond wonderful, all the employees were super friendly and helpful.

Excellent food, service and presentation with seasonal highlight in mind. Our kids loved mac & cheese ( of course with lobster and asparagus and authentic mushroom) and strawberry rhubarb tart. Their homemade ginger soda was also hit. Our waiter was so good with kids as well. We loved everything and we will be back.

Our visit was a date night. We always like to eat here when we are in Chattanooga. Joe was our waiter and you could tell he liked his job. Always had a smile, made excellent recommendations and was there at the right times.
We had drinks and conversation for a while then ordered the courses one at a time. A leisurely night and fun.
We shared the Dungeness crab and pimento cheese crackers then had the Sautéed Sea Scallops. Both were wonderful. Our entrees were Duck Confit and the 45 day dry aged new York strip. My goodness, both were awesome. The duck was moist and flavorful and the steak was tender and cooked perfectly medium rare.
St. John's will always be on our list to come to.

This may have been The Most Amazing Upscale Culinary Experience of my life. I won’t know completely for another 15 to 20 years or so. Every single bite was the result of an understanding of how to combine elements. The 1 to 2 minute hickory smoke injection into a jar of goat cheese and beats with rhubarb doesn’t do it justice to write about it. It was an amazing experience which literally left my wife and I in a euphoric mood because of the food - not because she turned 50 years old and still looks beautiful .

I’m from Knoxville, and I’m quite proud of our restaurants that I love to patronize, but I’m just crazy about St. John’s. First, I’m a self -proclaimed connoisseur of steak tartare, and St. Jon’s always hits the bullseye (sorry for the pun). The food, drinks, ambience, and especially the service are always extraordinary. I drove 2 hours to get there. I hope you’re closer.

Fan-effin-tastic! The level of creativity, menu planning, and foodstock purveyance was clearly intentional. Some of the evening's fare would never have been part of our typical order--e.g., the warm beet salad with sheep's milk cheese--though Chef Barron and her team schooled us. The service team was attentive, highly knowledgeable, yet never intrusive. This is the place to be in Chattanooga, and my perspective was that it was a great value, to boot; not something greatly considered in advance, but I've had lesser experiences for three times the tab.

Second time at St. John’s and it was terrific. The fritters was crisp yet soft as a pillow. The salmon and duck were delightful. The scallops were among the best I’ve ever had, and the tartar was balanced very well with the crostini and egg (first time ever trying tartar). Overall, a great experience once again!

We had such a wonderful time! My husband and I celebrated our 4yr wedding anniversary and everything was perfect. Our appetizer was so good. We ordered the crackers with cheese and crab on top, our starter meal, we ordered the scallops and the cauliflower soup with lobster and for our main course we had the antelope and I had the waygu beef of prime rib. And to top it off we both had dessert. My husband had the passion fruit chocolate cake and I had the coconut tres leches cake. All of our food was delicious. Our waiter was very patient with us too lol but we will be back again when we're in Chattanooga.

Food and service are outstanding, but the restaurant seemed to need a deep cleaning. The ceiling tiles were gross, as were the columns and walls. It totally distracted from the food experience. When paying a premium I expect attention to all detail.

Service and consistency are starting to wane over our last three visits. Service seems to be getting slower, and attention to details are being lost. The menu and flavours are still there - but food is now being brought to the table room temp or cold. Mushroom garnish on risotto came out chilled, sweet potato side for steak came out crunchy. I used to enjoy the service and dining experience, now better value can be had elsewhere. As a foodie, it’s disappointing to lose a favorite spot. This place is no longer my “go to” spot in CHA.

The service was good, food well prepared,only criticism would be selection. We were prepared to order a fish dish shown online in menu but it was unavailable and those offered didn’t appeal to us. Probably would opt for a restaurant with more seafood choices next time.

This place is always amazing. The menu changes periodically and everything continues to be fabulous. The chef uses just enough unusual combinations/unique ingredients. One of my favorite places anywhere in the US.
