St. John's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Still the finest establishment in Chattanooga. We frequent many downtown restaurants and have many great meals, but St. Johns is by far one of the best. The attention to detail and the service is impeccable. The menu offers selections that are unique and indulgent. Weather you are celebrating a special event or hosting a business dinner, St. John's is sure to leave you feeling like you have been served the best in Chattanooga.
The food was excellent, but our server was not. He paled in comparison to the other servers we observed at nearby tables. He seemed knowledgeable about some menu items, but was unable to answer questions about others. He was inattentive and genuinely uninterested in our dining experience. I loved the ambiance and decor and feel certain this would have been a 5-star rating overall if we had been paired with a different server.
Whenever we have a special occasion to celebrate, St. John's is the first place we think of. We had a professional accomplishment and a milestone birthday to celebrate at the same time. It was a quiet night soon after New Year's, and the chef offered to create a four-course menu just for us--an offer we couldn't refuse! Everything was incredible, and the chef's creativity and attention to detail made our special occasion truly memorable.
Our experience was outstanding. I took my 18 year old (almost) granddaughter for dinner. The food was superb and service was outstanding. The little things are accepted by staff as important. For instance, the napkins were selected to prevent lint from accumulating on our clothed, I got white (tan slacks) and she got black (black slacks). She was amused at the attention of wait staff on keeping her glass full of fresh ice water. "I only took three sips and they filled it again!" Great experience for both. Thanks you.
We loved spending New Years Eve with you. The service was the only issue. However, I definitely understood that the server was pulled in many directions. My issue mainly was that we sat down and he came to greet us and then we did not see him. Our neighboring table was seated about 5 minutes after us and before he returned to us, he had already taken their order and served their first course.
I believe he was simply scattered. His personality was charming though and I will spend next NYE there too! It was a hit!
As a Chattanooga native who has lived out of the city since the late nineties, I only get to eat in a few Chattanooga restaurants a year. My family and I made the right choice with St. John's, where we had a fantastic New Year's Eve dinner. The ambiance and service were excellent, the portions were generous, and the Manhattan I ordered was fantastic (which isn't always true of a restaurant bar). I highly recommend the antelope, which is not only delicious, but also points to the interesting personality of the menu.
We always enjoy StJohn's but only for special occasions. For us more than we want to spend for periodic dining out. Although a less expensive alternative is next door, The Meeting Place. Same chefs. No creative cuisine, but great food. While we thought the noise was moderate, we were upstairs right over the bar and dining room below. It was awesome as usual.
Our meal their was nothing short of ‘one of the best I have EVER had’!
All courses were unbelievable in presentation as well as taste.
Wait staff was second to none, very helpful in explanation as well as selection to what goes good with what. Also substitutions on the main course sides were no problem at all.
And the surprise dessert was quite welcome and delicious.
Will definitely be going back here in the very near future.
In a word, yummmmmmmmmmy!!! :-)
St. John's has been the choice for our wedding anniversary dinner for many years. The food is always outstanding, but this year, the presentation had changed, and it enhanced everything about the experience. If you are looking for a quiet evening, however, you might want to request a table upstairs. We were seated next to an office Christmas party that kept decibel level pretty high. That was minor blemish on an otherwise wonderful evening, from drinks to dessert.
We cannot say enough for St John's restaurant. We have been here many times and every time has been great. The service Saturday night was superb, the combinations with our dishes were yummy, the dessert was the best and the Millionaire coffee made us want to have one more. Thank you for a wonderful meal.
Our waiter, Martin, was attentive and very helpful. The food was wonderful. The squash soup with lobster and vegetable was like a lite lobster bisque. My wife's tuna tartare also tasted great and was not too spicy. The Virginia flounder was fluffy but meaty. The mushrooms and veggies were a good accompaniment. My wife's scallops were probably the freshest and tastiest scallops we have tasted. A cordial experience with a top notch kitchen.
This was my first experience here, and the food was very good, but the staff struggled with service. We waited almost 20 minutes before our drink order was taken, then almost that long to get our drinks. The service staff seemed young and relatively inexperienced - the consistency just wasn't there for an upscale food destination. Food was solid, however, and somewhat made up for that.
Since its opening, St. John's has consistently been one of if not the best meal in town. They meticulously source local ingredients and always display creative, unique and even somewhat obscure offerings (especially for Chattanooga) such as antelope, bison, sweetbreads, foie gras, etc.
A couple years ago, I met a man who was from NYC and whose wife is a restaurant critic there. He said he gets to try the best places in NYC but always looks forward to his business trips to Chattanooga because of all the restaurants he's tried, St. John's is his favorite!
We had the foie gras and which was fantastic as always. For the main course I had the duck, medium rare. It was a unique, Indian-esque preparation with tandoori vegetables. Everything was outstanding, the food, the service and the overall hospitality. It was our anniversary and the menus were customized for us and we were provided a complimentary desert. I'm not sure if that is normal or just a one off indulgence. Either way, when dining in Chattanooga, you can not do any better than St. John's. While there, its easy to be fooled into thinking your in NYC, Chicago, New Orleans, LA, etc. due to the truly world-class dining experience!
This was the second time we ate there & we have been impressed both times! Thus far we have not had a bad meal at St. Johns. Both times we ordered multiple starters & was pleasantly surprised how delicious they have been. We ordered different salads & entrees both times for yet another wonderful food experience. The food is so unique & the flavors are amazing! Great find in Chattanooga & we will definitely continue to go back.
