St. John's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
It looks like an old style saloon with s couple of dining rooms downstairs and balcony dining above. Service was superb, friendly and knowledgeable. Wine list was impressive with a variety of regions, styles and price points.
The pork belly appetizer was rich and flavorful, the duck confit perfectly cooked but the carrot cake soufflé was sublime
My wife had the smoked pork chop with applesauce and yams. A perfect combination
One of my top 5 meals in the US in 2017. We were totally blown away. Very upscale menu with down home southern roots elevated to a whole other level. Chicken fried veal sweetbreads - incredible texture/flavor combination. Pork belly crispy and flavorful. Potato pirogues to die for. I lived in Pittsburgh for 4 years and never had a pirogue like this. Steak and brisket - possibly the best brisket I ever had. Just can't say enough about how great this place was. Mitzii, our server, was professional, polished and still warm and charming. Met the owner, Josh, on the way out and you can see that the commitment to quality and the graciousness we encountered began at the top. We live in Atlanta and now we are searching for reasons to go back to Chattanooga, just to eat at St. John's again.
The entire meal, start to finish, was superb. Exceptional and knowledgeable service, very interesting choices on the menu, quiet and comfortable ambiance, suitable for intimate conversation. The Wagyu beef and brisket were without peer, perfectly prepared and plated. The roasted duck confit was mouthwatering. We'll be back.
This was our second visit to St John's and again they did not dissappoint. The pork belly appetizer was full of flavor and fork tender as was my steak. The service is really one of the things that set this place above some others, professional staff that all seem to enjoy serving you.
Arrived early. All seats in bar area taken. No offer of temporary seating for drinks. After substantial wait Saint Johns hostess suggested that we could go to Meeting Place bar next door. Went to MP had a pleasant bar visit. But went back to SJ for dinner, still no seats available one hour after reservation time. St Johns staff seemed indifferent. MP hostess said seating for dinner was available at MP. MP service at bar and table was excellent. Food choices and preparation were very good. MP hostess was very helpful. Note: only rated SJ in categories because it was required to submit comments. Obviously most ratings are not relevant because we were served no food or drink at SJ.i
My husband and I took our son for a special dinner late on a recent Saturday night. Joy our server was delightful and shared her knowledge of menu items. We enjoyed the foie gras ( a generous portion, thank goodness, for the price tag) and tartare for appetizers, then Joy had the kitchen split the duck for us. My son reported his smoked pork chop as excellent. I had an excellent french rose, while my husband said his old fashioned was one of the best he's had. Overall, a great experience. Highly recommend!
I've been to several fine dining restaurants throughout the US and this is by far one of the best. The service was perfect. The food was perfect, especially the little dish the chef brought out to try.
The shrimp/pimento cheese on the cracker with the little jalapeno slice was very creative and packed a ton of flavor! Unreal actually.
We had the filet and the pork chop, along with the beet & Brussel sprouts salad and the chocolate dessert. This meal is one of the best we have ever eaten. The meat was awesome. The filet had a smoky taste you don't typically get with a piece of grilled meat. It was from the smoky butter. The pork chop was tender and came pre-cut with just enough meat left on the bone. The salad was quite unique. The chocolate dessert really topped it off. It's a bit pricy but well worth it.
We live in New York and visit Chattanooga twice a year. We have eaten in famous restaurants all over the country, and have also been to great places in Europe. We are foodies at heart. St. John’s may be our favorite restaurant on the planet! It’s not just the food, which is always superb (inventive without being cute or fussy, locally sourced, expertly prepared), but because the dining experience is perfect in every way. From the moment you walk in the door till the moment you leave, you encounter nothing but excellence. The hosts, busboys, wait staff, bartenders are all friendly, professional, and accommodating without hovering. I have a food allergy, and they never make me feel like I’m being a bother. The solution is always “chef will make it work for you.” Love this place! (PS, still waiting for the recipe for roasted beets and Brussels sprouts salad, which is to die for!)
Outstanding meal, the food is seasonal and has never disappointed. It can be loud (can you call the sounds of good times loud?). Disclosure, I like the food enough to have nominated/voted the chef for a James Beard award. I would stop in for just the fantastic bread and a glass of wine from the exceptionally reasonably priced extensive list. Strongly suggest listening to the staff for wine recommendations as they have an eclectic and changing selection.
As always, food was excellent. This place is hands down one of the best if not the best fine dining in town. You will not be disappointed.
Our server was excellent as we had him before, however, he needed some help because we did have to wait awhile to get refreshed drinks and our time between dishes was long.
We happened to be in Chattanooga for business and this place was chosen for dinner. The restaurant was fabulous. The preparations were topped notch. My associate had antelope and I had grouper. Both were perfection. The menu was seasonal and fresh. The wine selection was impressive as well. Definitely put this in your list.
Went to St. John's for our wedding anniversary. Incredible Service and Dining. If I had to choose a last meal before leaving this world I would choose St. John's. My wife and I would have tried everything on the menu if our stomachs could hold it. Yes, it was that good. We will definitely be back soon! Thanks again for a wonderful evening St. John's!
St. John's was a delightful experience as we celebrated my parents' 60th wedding anniversary. "Happy Anniversary" at the top of the menu was an added treat. They felt like royalty and enjoyed the exquisite food. The staff paid attention to every detail and made it a memorable occasion. Thank you.
