About
As with many others we found the noise level to be excessive. The food was very good but as others have noted the portions are on the modest side. In sum, the restaurant is a good place to go if you do not plan on a lot of conversation and you do not need a lot of food.
Hopefully, we hit an off night for this popular & trendy bistro...we were obviously the oldest table in the room...but that should never matter...we were most likely to tip better...we were celebrating my birthday at a bistro that bears my given name...the service was indifferent...with knowledge of the special occasion....& abrupt. The food never achieved satisfaction. My veal breast was extremely fatty??? Thinking it really wasn’t veal...’nough said...won’t be returning to that charming space.
We have been to this restaurant before and were happy those times. This last time we were very disappointed with the service. It was a long time before we were given any menus. Then it was a long time before anyone returned to ask us about our choices. One person was brought their wine while the other two had to ask a second time. It seemed like they didn't care about us.
Great service, excellent wine list, delicious, thoughtfully prepared food. French bistro style without being fussy or overbearing, great for getting together with friends for Sunday brunch.
First time at St. Genevieve. A wonderful experience and the food was amazing. The service was not quite as attentive as I would have liked and for as quiet as it was, it shouldn’t have taken as long as it did to be served. We’ll be back!
This continues to be one of the best hidden gems in the Cities. Always amazing good and wonderful wine list.
Beautifully renovated interiors. Great atmosphere. Food was great to good. A foodie place. Expensive. They get you with the alcohol and watching the bartender match our pours to the measuring bottle felt cheap to me.
Will try again. Service was a little off. Orders were mixed up & delivered to wrong tables.
This was our first time at St. G. It was highly recommended by our daughter. We were 5 family members at the table and we shared all 5 orders of starters, entrees, and desserts. My favorite appetizers were the sweetbreads, and potato with alpine style cheese spread. The madame tartine, burnt carrots, and rabbit raviolo were also wonderful. Of the entrees, I most enjoyed the duck breast. The short ribs and steak special were also good. For dessert it was more difficult to choose; the pumpkin mousse was a delightful surprise, the spice cake was wonderful, and I think my favorite was the apple tartlette with walnut ice cream. The service was polite, timely, helpful, and attentive. I can hardly wait to go back for our next St. G experience.
Best restaurant in the Midwest! Top notch food, service, and atmosphere!
The interior is beautiful but the entree portions so small as to be embarrassing for them - we sent back our entree because it was smaller than a ‘small plate’ and as an example listed Brussels sprouts and had exactly 2 leaves present; hard to imagine something like that. The staff was nice but sanctimonious and overall not hospitable but rather haughty. A shame for a nice place with good food.
Very attentive service and excellent wine recommendations by our server. My son’s duck breast was excellent and an ample portion. My short rib was less voluminous and, to be frank, a little bland. The curry cauliflower purée was very tasty and quite inventive. Still one of my favorite restaurants in the Twin Cities.
Onion soup is to die for. Wonderful hearty broth flavor, crisp onions addition plus bread with Gruyere but not excessive. Beignets and coffee for dessert-perfect for a cold day. Attentive service. If you cannot get the onion soup then get the mushroom with a touch of apple butter added.
We enjoyed our light lunch at St Genevieve recently with the choice of a couple breakfast items - scrambled eggs and quiche. It was delicious, but nothing we would order again. The quiche was served with a small salad that had onions which completely overpowered the dish. The beignets were also so-so. Service was spotty - fine at the beginning of the meal, but completely lacking once we ordered.
You are not going to find a more delicious restaurant in all of Minneapolis. The best wines, the best foods, the best staff, this easily became my and my fiancee's go-to hot spot.
The quiche can't be beat and start a brunch with the beignets!
Excellent mussels and selection of champagne and cremants.
The food was average and our server was very bad
The server Offered no guidance on the menu and seemed to have no knowledge of the menu as well
I had to look up reviews to see what to order since she did not know
I was quite disappointed since it was my wife's birthday which the server did nothing to recognize even though it was on the reservation.
love this place and the food is excellent, but almost always leave still hungry with a hefty tab.
I’ve been to St. G a handful of times at this point and the service and food never disappoint. I am originally from the South, so I am not kidding when I tell you the beignets are as close as you are going to get this far north of the Mason-Dixon Line. The French press coffee is full bodied and rich. The food is delicious, if a little off the normal “brunch” path. The servers are attentive and very friendly. For weekend brunch, I highly recommend making a reservation. The space is cozy.
Our first visit. Recommended by a friend. Beautiful ambiance. Server was patient, knowledgeable and very polite. Food was excellent. - We will return! -
The silky and rich Quiche is always worth the trip and not sure I can ever pass by again without stopping for Beignets and French pressed coffee. Ahhhhmazing!
Duck was amazing
Fabulous champagne selection.. wonderful food.. average service
Galette, fries and gem salad were wonderful! As was the French press and pastry. A favorite place.
Good food but expensive for what you get. I don't need Chilies size portions by any means, but I shouldn't leave a restaurant still hungry after spending $100+ for dinner for two.
Very cold day and it was almost warm inside. The food at everyone's place was amazing.
Great cozy spot for surprise date night dinner.
The restaurant was beautiful and the food was good but I think it was Very over priced. We got dinner but would have been better off going just getting drinks and an app. It was a pretty casual restaurant for being so expensive. The wait staff looked very casual. With hoodies and overalls on some waiters. They didn't look professional at all.
Quaint neighbor eatery with wonderful staff and outstanding, locally sourced cuisine. Wish I lived closer or this would be a regular haunt.
Great staff that allowed 2 friends a lot of catching up time while making sure we felt attended to.
Anniversary
Absolutely fabulous. The waitstaff was perfectly attentive and offered excellent suggestions for both food and wine. Another excellent establishment from Steven Brown. Bravo.
I have been waiting to tell everyone my opinion. I have wanted to go to this restaurant for years, now in the neighborhood so we got in quickly. I am sorry to say I will not be spending my hard-earned salary on this restaurant again. My quiche was a 2 x 3 in egg bake, very bland accompanied by a tiny frizzled side salad. My husband's equally small equally forgettable item took A LONG TIME to cook and serve. I really don't understand what all the fuss is about. There are other restaurants very close by that we have returned to and will again.
I love the maitre'd who is so on top of everything and recognized me the 2nd time I came in.
Good lunch menu. Hope to see it expanded by another soup, a salad, and a cassoulet.
Manager was very accommodating to our special circumstance.
My friend, Chloe invited me to St. Genevieve for my 64th birthday. What a pleasant surprise St. Genevieve was. The service was superb. The servers are wonderfully attentive to your every need. They were especially helpful to me as a first time patron of St. Genevieve. Hopefully we will return to St. Genevieve before long.
St. Genevieve continues to improve. The setting is lovely and the service is wonderful.
The noise level is intrusive when it is full, less so if you get there early and leave by 7:30
as we did. Food is excellent to outstanding depending on choices. The portion sizes
for the entrees can be a bit on the small side, particularly with the fish, certainly
by comparison with its peer restaurants in town. Desserts have gotten really superb.
My main complaint as always is the wine list: well-chosen but almost ridiculously overpriced if you know what these wines cost. So, we buy a glass of Champagne and bring our own red or white for 20 bucks.
Warm, cozy environment. Staff was lovely and food was divine!
The food and presentation were excellent. We ended up with a server who treated my sister and me like we WERE actually IN France. Snobbed at us the whole time. She NEVER asked how any of our food was or if we needed anything along the way. She tried to take away the butter when I had a whole slice of bread on my plate, and then said, Oh, you want the butter?" "It's just herbal, herbal tea" when I asked what type of tea." Hey, I'm a tea drinker. We had to ask for tea water twice. She was not friendly in any way and had a grumpy face. If her day was that bad, she should have gone home. After discussing with the apologetic manager, we were appeased with (amazing) sherbet on the house; appropriate. We will try it again...with a different server.
