Nice environment and decent food. The problems were a. way too loud environment (have to shout to be heard) and b. snooty chef: when my wife complained that her steak was not MR, instead of bringing a new one they insisted that it was cooked to her liking...not very accomodating and we were still charged $38 for the entree.
Appetizers & Mains were good. Desserts a bit of a disappointment.
On a recent Friday night, the food and service were both very good. The only problem is the noise level in the main room once it fills up. Wish management would install some carpeting or sound-absorbing panels to help with this!
Outstanding food and service. The only complaint would be that the tables are very close together.
Everything about the evening was wonderful except for the noise level. Would not go back solely based on this. It was very difficult to even hold a conversation. Great food and great service
Innovative foods prepared in a very "special" way. All staff very attentive and informative.
Excellent service and food. Will return!
Always a great meal at St. Eve’s. The food is always good as is the service. It’s one of my favorite BYOB restaurants in Northern NJ
Good service and nice ambiance. Having Type 1 diabetes, I ordered my dinner with sauce on the side. It arrived with sauce on the salmon. I didn’t want to delay my friends whose dinners had also. arrived, so I did not send it back to the kitchen. Everyone enjoyed the food.
I really wanted to love this place, the setting is nice, there's outdoor dining for the cooler fall months, and their menu looked promising. We've been to many nice restaurants, not because we can really afford it, but because we go out rarely and save up for fine dining experiences. We often use the Saddle River Inn as a comparison restaurant since we have always been happy with the food there (we go once a year at different times of year).
All of that being said, we found our entrees to be disappointing, my husband's steak was ordered med. rare and it came out barely pink inside and the meat was tough. My duck tasted like a bland steak. The veggies included steamed broccoli (very un-creative) and my rice was supposed to be a jasmine coconut, which I pictured as light and summery, but instead it was just like rice-a-roni minus the flavor pack, and not fully cooked.
We did not complain about the meal, there was no point, we did not want to sit while things were re-cooked, but, for $35-40 a plate, the meal should be much better than what we got.
We are local and would loved to have had another go to special place like the Saddle River Inn to go to, but unfortunately this will not be it.
We had heard from friends about the excellent food, service and ambiance of this restaurant
and it all is true, St Eve's is one of the top fine dining restaurants in Northwest Bergen County.
The menu selections were diverse and the description of the preparation of each entree was equally diverse. St Eve's is well worth it for those who appreciate fine dining.
St Eve's has just gotten better and better. The menu is inventive and varied, with a great selection of new American dishes. Our group had the beet salad, which was fresh and flavorful and the spicy shrimp remolaude, which was a teeny bit heavy on the sauce but still wonderful. We followed up with the filet mignon ravioli and the lobster ravioli (a special), and we loved that we could order as either an entree or appetizer portion, because that left us room for the butterscotch bundino, which is not to be missed. The decor is lovely and both cozy and elegant, and the service was perfect.
Exceptional - as always - from the hostess to the food to the wait staff. Just love St. Eve's.
Great food and service but very rushed. You must order apps and entrees at once and are interrupted when having an intimate conversation to be given water or a menu. Don’t think we’ll return, which is unfortunate because we do enjoy the food.
We used to live in the area. We were traveling through and decided to try this place based on the outstanding recommendations. Unfortunately our two entrees were very different in quality. The soft shell crab special of the evening was just days away from being a “hard shell crab”. The small grilled peach special salad was good but overpriced at $17. In another salad, the kitchen decided to substitute red cabbage for red endive without explanation. The highlight of the evening was the beautifully prepared braised short rids...they were delicious. Service was friendly and very good. Overall our experience was mixed. If we still lived in the area, we would return but not for some time.
Service did not match the outstanding quality of the food, but we will return and recommend to others based upon the latter!
We have dined here a few times and have never had a bad meal!!!! Great service, great food!!!
We love this restaurant but service was very off this visit.
This was our 1st Trip to this restaurant so we looked online at their website for their menu. The menu is small so we called the restaurant to see if this was the total menu. We were told no there were many other options available for dining. We also asked if they were a BYO and were told NO we have a full bar.
The first LIE was that the menu online is the total menu except for three specials. The second LIE is that they are a BYO and specifically told us they were NOT. NOT A GOOD START...INEXPLICABLE.
The appetizers ordered were a beat salad… Which was quite small and the second appetizer was muscles which was in a bland sauce.
Two of us had the fish special Striped Bass, which was unremarkable… One had the Filet Mignon special .....and one had the Parmesan Crusted Free Range Chicken which was on a bone with a lot of fat and skin.
Desert ordered was warm apple tart...another small portion.
I never write reviews… But this place didn’t come close to meeting ANYONE’s expectations… And others should know they should think twice before frequenting think this establishment. WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING.
The food was incredible and couldn’t have asked for better service! It would be great if there was something they could do about the noise level. We definitely plan on going back and would highly recommend it to friends.
Amazing service! The food was incredible.... ambience was gorgeous! Can’t wait to go back.
First let me say that we dine out 2 to 3 times per week and have never been treated with such disrespect and rudeness by a hostess whom I later learned was one of the owners. Unfortunately I learned as we were sitting in the parking lot that our dinner guests were unable to make dinner. We went in I told the hostess we were no longer 2 but 4 as our dinner guests were unable to make it. She said to me “I would have appreciated a phone call” in a rude tone and clearly annoyed. We should have walked out at that point but we didn’t. She took the name of the party behind us and seated them before us. She came back still huffing and walked around the dining room acting as if she couldn’t simply put us at the table for four, please note there were plenty of empty tables that never got filled. We were put at a table in the corner (on our reservation we requested a corner table or booth) where we had to squeeze between 2 large parties and she said as she was seating us “they are finishing up you will have more room soon.” I called it the punishment table. I saw an open booth against the wall and asked her if we could sit there. She said “no I have a party of 8 coming.” I didn’t say anything since it was a table for four. Not 10 minutes later (we were a few minutes early for our reservation)she sat a party of 2 at that exact table. We hadn’t ordered yet, my husband wanted to leave and we should have but the waitress was extremely sweet and while I truly wanted to leave I didn’t want to do that to her. So the service from the waitress was great and the food was good. However, we will never be back because even when I approached the hostess/owner when we were leaving to kindly tell her we didn’t appreciate how she spoke to us or treated us she felt she did nothing wrong and became argumentative after I gave her the facts of our initial encounter. She could have cared less and our business was not important to her. She needs to brush up on her customer service skills.
Food is always fantastic. BYOB. Very consistent.
It is our third time back:) We love it!
Had a lovely anniversary meal at St Eve's. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and the generously portioned food was delicious. We had soft shell crab and beef carpacchio as our entrees, then the duck and lamb for our main courses. Everything on the dessert menu looked wonderful - what we ended up ordering was fabulous, and adorned with candles because of the occasion. I'll happily visit again for a special event.
WAITERS AND WAITRESS GAVE EXCELLENT SERVICE, NICE PLACE TO HAVE DINNER.
Fabulous food. Great service. Beside the very varied menu, there are Specials that are scrumptious. Great Restaurant, BYOB.
Dinner was pleasant, prices have gotten higher! Service was excellent.
St. Eve's is a delightful discovery. Tucked away in downtown Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey, St. Eve's offers both outside and inside dining. The interior of the restaurant is smartly appointed. We were comfortable, though, dining after 7:30 on a Saturday evening will offer a quieter experience. The dinner menu provides original (authentic) Beginnings and Main courses.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary selecting something familiar and new to eat. We began with Prince Edward Island Mussels, a dish whose preparation we are quite particular about. The mussels were exquisite. The marinara sauce integrated seasonings in a stunning balance between sweet and tangy with a bit a heat at the end of each taste. We have eaten mussels in fine Manhattan restaurants, Chicago, DC, Boston, and San Francisco. Without question, this Beginning exceeded expectations.
The Filet Mignon Ravioli (tender morsels of meat wrapped by a pasta cooked just right - firm) resting on a Red Wine Braised Short Ribs and Porcini Broth was masterful. Sue's face expressed the pleasure of the Main. She used words like tender, convergence of seasoning and marinades to voice her delight.
I do not as a rule order beef of any sort for a main. I was unexpectedly enticed by a special Filet Mignon . There was a suggestion of a fine chewy red wine in the aroma of the meal, and just that a pleasing suggestion. The mushrooms were as tender as the steak and the potato puree with Rosemary complemented the meat and porcinis. There was just the right amount of demi-glaze. Well worth a pass with each fork-full.
Sue ordered Pavlova for dessert. It was a dessert she liked, yet the merangue was a bit overbaked. I have Celaic Disease (the servers were attentive to my dietary needs), so I tried the Flourless Chocolate Cake. Much to my surprise, the dessert presented a moist cake (rather than the fudgey-concoctions usually offered) complemented by a scrumptious chocolate chip mint ice cream.
We will return in two weeks .
Filet Mignon ravioli was excellent. Chocolate cake was delicious.
St. Eve's is my new favorite restaurant in the area. I love the ambiance and the food is delicious. We especially love that it is BYOB. The filet ravioli are so darn good. They served us a banana bread at the beginning and I purchased a loaf to take home. The summer peach cobbler was super yummy as well. Certainly not inexpensive, but definitely a great value. Can't wait to go back!
Food was great, well prepared and the service was pleasant, efficient and professional.
It's a gem in Ho-Ho-Kus! Having driven past it so many times we decided to try it. We were delighted and I think we found our new favorite spot in the area.
The restaurant is very lovely, and the wait staff was very attentive. Love the decor!
You can bring your own wine which is great. Food was incredible, we had the salmon and the mahi mahi - both done very well. Appetizers were also stellar as was the homemade dessert - flourless chocolate cake with homemade mint chip ice cream! Bonus - coffee was incredible!
A great restaurant, we will return without hesitation!!
The food at St Eve's is delicious and uses seasonal fresh ingredients. The service is very good and the waitress was very attentive.
Fresh. Delicious. Relaxing. Unique.
Using Open Table I had requested soft shell crabs if available. They are a true favorite. They did not disappoint and were prepared tempura style. An appetizer of lobster ravioli accompanied by a single scallop and shrimp was delightful. Tried a new dessert, a kind of ice cream sandwich made with ginger snaps and filled with cinnamon ice cream we probably would not order again. The cookies were soft and a little gummy. Delicious coffee to end and a beautiful selection of warm breads to start it was a mid-week meal and the service was outstanding.
We had an excellent time. Everything was very good, well prepared and second to none.
Impeccable service attention to detail tasty food but nothing I couldn’t make myself but if you want to be waited on and served beautiful platter is this is the place to go
Four thumbs up. Good and service was great
