St. Anselm - DC
I absolutely love everything about this place! Food, drinks, service and atmosphere is always above and beyond. Easily in my top 3 food spots in DC.
We had a lovely time at St. Anselm for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. It was a great place to go and feel like we got a "fancy" dinner without breaking the bank. We especially loved the complimentary champagne. That felt very sweet. The tequila cocktail was also one of the best things we've ever had!! Thank you so much!
OUTSTANDING food/service as usual! Definitely a MUST for steak in DC. Only suggestion: bring back the cauliflower side dish.
Great atmosphere, delicious food, and excellent service.
My friend suggested we come here again for the biscuits are are amazing! I'm not a fan of pimento cheese so we asked for jam/jelly. What we got was liquid-like, so we had to pour it over the biscuits. Not a huge deal, as last time they didn't have this as a second option. We got the Eggs your Way which was good although the bread was so hard, we couldn't eat it. The service was great and we sat outside at one of the booths.
server dropped wine bottle on table and it splashed all over my face, neck, and chest. they did not offer to purchase the wine that spilled.
The ribeye was probably the best steak I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The biscuits and pimento were a great starter. Our server was knowledgeable and patient. I plan to return in the future!
What a gem!! Incredible eats (the monkey bread is a MUST) combined with an eclectic atmosphere and truly lovely servers. Fantastic brunch spot!
Fantastic food in a cool setting! Terrace dining was a great choice. Service was slow, but they were very busy. Great beer and wine selection.
Everything was amazing! Delicious biscuits and sides c
Overall, the food was good. Unfortunately, I think service was lacking here. Our waitress was covering numerous tables and could not dedicate any time to us. I had written a note on my reservation that we were celebrating my husbands birthday and there was no mention of it by our waitress. Further, our food order came out wrong but we did not make a big deal of it given how busy the place was. Regardless, busy or not, I would like my order to come out right. Lastly, we asked our waitress if we could substitute an ingredient for one of the salads due to a dietary restriction and she did not want to even bother and ask the chef. I chose not to push and did not order the salad but I was not sure what the big deal was.
Great food, awesome experience and servers - very pleased
Love this spot. Consistently delicious and fun night out! Take out works great too!
The food and service was as wonderful as we expected.
Excellent and modern steakhouse without being overtly steakhouse-like.
Appetizers, salads and steaks were excellent. Cocktails, dessert, and service were mixed.
We've been to St Anselm's several times pre- and during COVID. Perhaps it was the time of day (4:30 on a Sunday) and they are down servers like many restaurants, but we were seated in a corner with several other tables when there were open tables throughout the rest of the restaurant. The service was not good and we were waiting on drinks and the meals were delivered before we were done with the appetizers. The food was good as always. However, given the cost of the meals/drinks and our previous experiences we expected a lot more. It will be a while before we return if at all - hoping they get their mojo back.
Great brunch. Every dish done just so. Expensive but worth it.
Wonderful experience I will be returning soon for the lamb steak
Overall great experience, the food and drinks were phenomenal!
Great restaurant. Food was amazing. The hardwood bench seating was quite uncomfortable with no padding which is the only reason I have rated it 4 stars instead of 5.
Food was delicious! Axe Handle Ribeye was flavorful and cooked to perfection. Will return.
Don’t miss the biscuits (ask for strawberry jam instead of the pimento cheese) and thick cut bacon…
Great place for brunch.
It's great to see an unpretentious steak house that delivers. The food is amazing. Would highly recommend this place.
All in all, a very nice night out. We sat outside in our own cubicle that had a fan. The restaurant’s interior looked great. I wish COVID concerns hadn’t made us opt for sitting outdoors. As for the food, the endive salad and the sides (spinach and mashed potatoes) were excellent. But we were both disappointed with our steaks. They weren’t bad but when you go to a steakhouse you expect superb beef. The NY strip was the better of the two though nothing special. The most that can be said of the ribeye is that it was big- not flavorful or tender and came out more rare than the ordered medium rare. Dessert (a cookie) was good but, again, nothing special and not worth the price.
Service was friendly and attentive.
Food was tasty! The bacon and deviled egg w/ blue crab were our favorites!
St Anselm — from cocktails to biscuits to that b’day carrot cake w/just enough candles — truthfully & delightedly, E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G was flawless, captivating, & yummy for our Fri evening b’day celebration!! Just like the candles, the b’day girl was lit w/excitement! Paul & staff, thx for every special touch! We 💕 St A!!!
I had the best server ever in Kamiece (sp?). Everything she recommended was delicious and I tried things I normally wouldn’t like. A great spot
Inside ambiance is wonderful. Outside is in a parking lot in 95 degree heat. Despite the cute little individual pods, indoor dining would have been preferable.
Very helpful waiter! After we decided we would prefer to eat inside, he figured out a way to get us an excellent table inside.
The service was very good and my fish was good. But the strip steak we had was overcooked and very tough. Had a hard time cutting it with the knife. Why don't you buy the prime strips from Costco. So much better and they are as tender as butter.
Would have loved to eat inside, but totally get it
Great food, service, and vibe!
So good! Biscuit to die for. Loved the whole branzino, NY strip and mashed potatoes. Great atmosphere and service
I love st anselm! Great food. Especially the biscuits.
This place is truly wonderful! The quality of the food is over-the-top for the price. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. We love the contrast between the interior decorating theme and the surrounding area. Any time we're near D.C., we make a reservation!
A solid choice. The staff is friendly and the drinks hit the spot. Great monkey bread but the biscuits and pimento cheese is the best. Don’t miss that app—it’s my favorite. So good! I’ve tried the brunch chicken sandwich twice but left most of it on my plate both times. I thought the first time was a fluke but ended up disappointed by it on the second try as well. Skip it for something else. Will be back—just with a new main next time. But still recommend St. Anselm overall!
