St. Anselm - DC
I asked for ketchup as soon as my meal came out and got it at the end. I had to ask for it 3 times. They said it comes from the kitchen so it takes a while... maybe since it’s a reoccurring issue things should be switched up a bit so that people can get their sauce with their meal. Otherwise great experience.
St. Anslem is our favorite. Every time we visit, everything is perfect from the service to the food. Their covid protocol is far above any other restaurant in the city as well.
The food was great! The waiter was extremely friendly and attentive.
Everything we ate was excellent & service was outstanding. We had a steak, crispy smashed potatoes (get them!), biscuits with pimento cheese (what they are known for), and sweet potato with cinnamon (more savory delishiciousness than sweet). Also, felt very safe with Covid precautions. Definitely recommend!
Still our favorite steak in DC. Construction in the area takes away from ambiance. Steak not one of the better ones we’ve had here. But still great place with excellent service.
Had birthday dinner here with my family. When calling about my reservation, they were very courteous and accommodating to my needs regarding covid/social distancing since we had an infant with us. I appreciated the same due diligence when at the restaurant, they asked our names for contact tracing purposes and checked our temperatures at the entrance.
The food and service was excellent, although I wish the server was a bit more attentive (I had to ask for refills a coupe of times).
The biggest negative of the night was that neither the hostess or server mentioned my birthday although identified during OpenTable reservation, I’ve had other establishments comment before - which was nice. Overall I would dine here again, the food is delicious and the decor/ambience is interesting.
Safe protocols. Excellent food. Great atmosphere.
Absolutely fantastic food and service! The biscuits are too die for! Also, felt very comfortable with Covid protocols in place.
The food was good and our server was very attentive. It’s not the same restaurant; however, as before COVID-19 hit. The old chef with her unusual menu and sophisticated dishes is gone. This place now is more in keeping with a good steak house.
Everything was wonderful except the beets was a little disappointing. Love the oyster and the wine recommendation!
Food was fantastic! Great atmosphere, will come back. Highly recommend for great quality food, loved the NY strip, sardines, and oysters especially. Great take on new American
Get the bisquits!!! Ribeye was an excellent choice.
Having been to St. Anselm before, we knew we were in for a treat to celebrate a special occasion with family. We all felt safe indoors as COVID protocols were strictly followed.
The ambiance compliments an outstanding steak house. We began with wonderfully buttery buttermilk biscuits with accompanying tasty pimento cheese. The snapper crudo was snapped up! The thick but Heritage bacon is one smokey heart-stopper...enjoyed by all as were the oysters in a nicely smoked herb butter. Two Butcher's steaks, a half charred chicken and a ribeye later, we were happy campers! The pan-fried mashed potatoes was especially scrumptious as one of the sides we ordered along with the crispy smashed potatoes and grilled broccoli. A lovely Merlot was the perfect accompaniment to all of our dishes. The Warm Apple Crisp and Ice Cream Cake were made a highly satisfied ending to our evening. As for the birthday celebration, a candle on the cake and complimentary glasses of champagne were the icing on the cake and very much appreciated.
I’ve been terrified to re-enter the dining world. I felt sooo safe and comfortable at St. Anselm. They really are holding up the highest standards for safety. And of course the food and wine were delicious and the service was perfect.
This place is a gem! The food is so flavoraful and the waiters have so much personality that it makes you want to come back for more!
Absolutely fantastic food and experience, despite the price. I wish I could go every weekend!
This is specifically about outdoor dining. They are not yet equipped to be holding groups outdoors as it gets colder. They don’t have enough for each table, so they try to share them. We had to ask 5 times for the heat lamp to be turned on. Then turns out it was out of propane. We were over 45 minutes into our reservation before it was turned on. Then the steak we ordered apparently was sold out. We were told this 30 minutes after ordering. The only option we were given was to purchase a larger, more expensive steak. Not exactly customer service. The people working seemed fluster and it was very chaotic when our food even arrived at the table. At that point we didn’t stay for dessert because we just wanted to leave.
Great food as always. Especially loved the grilled oysters.
Perfect date night
Wonderful meal and fantastic service @ St. Anselm! Would absolutely recommend to a friend. One thing to keep in mind is that it's NOT a restaurant where you can sit, eat, drink and chat the night away. They have a limit - I think 2 hours - on the amount of time you can spend at the table. We even offered to buy more drinks etc but were told no. Our table was needed for another reservation. Other than that, we had a great experience!
Wonderful meal, great food, and lovely location. Only comment is that the food came very quickly and I would have enjoyed a bit more time before courses.
Everything was great. Perfect for date night. Loved the deviled eggs and biscuits. Rib eye was also great
We had the best time at St. Anslem last night for our 1yr anniversary! Abbey was our waitress, she couldn't have done a nicer job taking care of us and surprised us with complementary champagne with our desert. The food was perfectly prepared, delicious steak. Highly recommend for all occasions.
I like how they screen everyone’s temperature and are vigilant about wearing masks.
This isn’t our first time dinning at St.Anselm. Our past experiences were 5 stars hands down. This time everything was off. Maybe because of Covid? Maybe because our expectations were so high from our previous visits.
The biscuits were to die for, like normal. The salmon collar was top notch. The snapper crudo was perfect.
The deviled eggs were... deviled eggs, not bad by any means but nothing to go wild about. The filling masked the crab. The main course is were everything went south. We ordered a 54oz ribeye medium rare. Unfortunately, it came out medium. We already started eating it so we choose not to send it back. Don’t get me wrong the steak was still yummy but not want we ordered not what it should have been. The broccoli was charred and cold. The broccoli could have been softer but that’s personal preference. The pan fried mashed potatoes were bland. We still recommend St.Anselm. Everyone has bad days.
The upside was the manager. He asked if we wanted another steak or anything to make up for the mistake. We declined because we were full. No need to waste food, period.
We had a lovely evening at St. Anslem / the bone in rib-eye is one of the best steaks that I have ever had!
Great service, creative and relaxed ambiance, standard up-scale New American steakhouse fare capably executed. A pleasant and safe meal-in-the-time-of-Covid.
The biscuits are to die for! Everything was wonderful!
Everything was amazing!! I can’t wait to visit again. The best steak I’ve ever had.
Excelente food, service and ambiance. We sat outside and it felt very safe. It was packed but all the covid protocols were in place and followed. The food was absolutely perfect. The salmon collar is out of this world and the Ribeye, my god. Will definitely be coming back soon!
One of the best meals I’ve had in ages. Cheesy endive salad and perfectly cooked trout. Safety precautions and cleanliness were top notch. Server was friendly and accommodating. Can’t wait to go back!
They make the best biscuits I've ever had—one of my favorite bites of anything. EXCELLENT service, and they have done a good job creating, practicing, and enforcing appropriate safety precautions for COVID-19.
Over priced for underwhelming food. NY strip was literally slather or dunked in sauce. The salad was dry. The chicken was over done. I went there when it first opened and was good. Won’t plan on coming back.
10/10 for the NY strip and the service! Would definitely go back!
Very impressed with St, Anselm's COVID procedures and practices. I sat outside, and the food was great!
Very safe with covid precautions - temperatures taken and contract tracing upon arrival. Lots of outdoor seating in a nice ambiance, even though it's on a somewhat busy street. The food was amazing - biscuits, oysters, deviled eggs - I couldn't find one thing we didn't love.
Great job by all of the staff to ensure safety and cleanliness and the food and service was outstanding.
The steak and eggs portion was disappointing. Otherwise, decent meal.
