St. Anselm - DC
Great place for grilled meats. Unique sides and small plates. Incredible wine list
Do not sleep on St. A's. The atmosphere and service alone are amazing. Couple that with the food and drink and you have a home run! A great flashback to a old school American tavern. I recommend the biscuits and pimiento cheese app. The NY Strip and BoBo chicken are delicious. Do not leave without getting the ice cream cake. We will definitely be going back.
Atmosphere, staff, fantastic. Food itself just a bit lacking taste wise. Good, just not great.
Our server was very good. Forgot to get his name but white male, glasses, facial hair, partner works for nestle. Very knowledgeable of the menu and great at being hospitable. Food was very good, biscuits were crazy good. Would definitely go again. Thanks
We enjoyed our visit for brunch - the service was friendly and timely, the food was good but nothing special, the monkey bread was served cold (on purpose?), and the restaurant didn’t acknowledge the special occasion (birthday) in any way.
I got the lamb sirloin and my boyfriend got the butchers steak, and overall we had the most incredible experience. Every bite seemed to bring out the essence of the ingredients. Highly recommend.
It always consistently superb. The service, food, and ambience.
Relaxed, quirky atmosphere. Delicious food!! Some of the lightest fried potatoes I’ve ever tasted and bottomless coffee. Fabulous service and decent value (especially for DC). Will go back again and will bring friends.
Great atmosphere, great food, and excellent service
Truly incredible meal! Highly recommend for date night or to celebrate any special occasion. Not stuffy, but still very nice.
Good service and great food. Bar attender was not super friendly but maybe he was just too busy. Large portions.
St. Anselm did not disappoint. The food, ambiance and service were among the best we've experienced in DC. Will definitely be back.
It was just ok! Expecting much better from other reviews. Food was underwhelming but the service was great.
Couldn’t have asked for a better strip steak, but service was intrusive for my taste—lots of people stopping by to ask if was enjoying my meal. Then when I was finished eating, it took forever for the server to bring the check.
Recommend requesting a booth. Meats are excellent and an outstanding selection of liquors, especially Madeiras. Great wine list as well. We enjoyed the casual ambience and still able to get exceptional food.
Very loud. Service was spotty. Food was good. Will go back - but never with people I want to have a conversation.
Amazing meal. Get the king grab and biscuits! Really solid place
Great meal, perfect wine recommendations and fantastic service. Server Megan made some excellent recommendations and on a very busy night did not hesitate at all to let us linger in a prime booth with a final round of cocktails. Well done, will definitely come back.
Great service and memorable food. We will definitely be back.
Great place great time can’t wait to go back. Highly reccomend the biscuits. And if your date says get the broccoli instead of the carrots break up with them.
We had reservations yet still had to wait for 20 minutes to be seated. This is my biggest pet peeve at restaurants. Decor is strange - the banners made me think of prep schools. Food was fine and table service was good, but first impressions set by the less than accommodating hostess staff have ensured that I won't be back.
It’s not a big deal but if you can’t offer “special requests” then don’t have a section that asks for them. I really like the booths so I thought requesting one 3+ weeks out wouldn’t be an issue. When we arrived, I was told there wasn’t any available. It’s not the end of the world but I thought that’s what the special request section was for.
Fun, hip ambiance with tasty food. Highly recommend their desserts!
We had an amazing dining experience! Service was great and they noticed we were celebrating valentine’s early and brought us a complimentary glass of champagne. Starr Restaurants never disappoints. We will be back for sure!
Great restaurant...good food, good service, and reasonably priced. There were 6 of us. We ordered 2 bottles of wine, also reasonably priced, and tasted just about everything on the menu. My favorite was the lamb and I don't even like lamb, unless I am eating at St Anselm! If I had a complaint it would be that it was so noisy we couldn't hear the people at the other end of the table.
The food was incredible. We had the buttermilk biscuits, cauliflower, pan-fried mashed potatoes, blue crab deviled eggs, and flatiron steak - all were inventive and tasty. Service was attentive. The place was buzzing for a Monday night. The only downside was our reservation was pushed back a half hour because of a bottleneck, but management made up for it by apologizing profusely and giving us deviled eggs on the house.
Went for brunch. Food and service were excellent. Some of the best biscuits I’ve had (and that doesn’t even need to be qualified with a “this far north”)
My wife and I dined for Sunday lunch. Pros: The deviled eggs; fruit salad; lamb tenderloin; and steak somewhat inattentive service. Bonus: great decor; eclectic plate-ware; and fantastically broad wine menu.
It was the first of hopefully many forthcoming visits for us, with dinner a more attractive option as that wine list needs to be pursued vigorously!
This is a gem - great for a family gathering, date spot, or special occasion. The food was very good, nice portions, and great for brunch and a walk in the area. Would definitely return!
Great service. Biscuits were great. My friends streak was perfect.
Love everything about this place - the fun vibe (retro and high energy without being deafeningly loud), terrific food (love the axe-handle ribeye), great cocktails, knowledgeable sommelier. Fantastic night out.
Food and drinks are amazing! Great menu, from appetizers to dessert! Incredible drinks menu, with an extensive wine list. The dining room is loud, but the food and service more than makes up for it!
Great wine service! Our table was under a draft but the atmosphere otherwise was terrific!
This place ROCK's! The food was so delicious, very unique. If you want an experience, this is the place. A bit pricey but so worth it. The wines are super beautiful as well. I've been to so many restaurants in the DMV area and this by far my top rated restaurant. Took hubby for his birthday, he loved it!
BEST BISCUITS EVER!!!! Cutest waiter, best service, best food!!!
Incredible staff, great food and fun atmosphere.
Food was excellent. Service was great. Ambiance unpretentious. Acoustics surprisingly good. Portions generous.
Great food and wine list. Great atmosphere if not a little too loud and cramped at the tables. Request a booth for a little more room. Food was excellent, had the deviled eggs which were very tasty and a good start. The scallops were also good but a drop off from the eggs. The butchers steak was the absolute star of the night. Melts in your mouth. The lamb not as good, just a bit overcooked, masked by the salsa verde. Ice cake was a fun end to the dinner, all in very good and worth the visit.
Best steak in D.C.-bone in rib eye 55oz
Bo bo chicken was tender and delicious. Think outside the box!
the Barloro wine is off the charts.
Cool vibe with a touch of Brooklyn flair!
I took my POC at an important European client company to St. Anselm, and it was just the perfect place. He wanted meat, but didn't want to go to the typical DC corporate steakhouse. The food at St. Anslem was very good, the service was engaging, and the price point was just right. Most important, my guest enjoyed experiencing the upscale young professional vibe at St. Anselm.
