St. Anselm - DC
Taxidermy Contributed to a unique ambiance. The cheddar rolls were absolutely delicious with buttery crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, I highly recommend ordering those with your appetizers. Even the broccoli was chard on the grill with salt to perfection. The steak was seasoned well and the servers and chefs alike understand the different cuts and how to prepare them. Our only critique would be the alcohol price was not on point with the price of the steak. The $15-$20 glass of wine per $40 steak does not equate. I would bring a glass of wine down to $10 to $14 charge per glass.
When I'm craving steak, there's it one place to go and it's here. Have been a number of times and will keep going back.
I was so surprised with everything on the menu as well as the presentations of the plates. Staff is amazing as well as the managers. Everyone was very knowledgeable of the items and its ingredients. To say they went above and beyond would be an understatement.
One of my favorite DC restaurants!
Went for brunch. Recommend making a reservation. The sides are actually the stars of the menu. Particularly the biscuits with Pimento Cheese, but particularly the bacon. Looking forward to trying this place for dinner sometime. easy to find parking on a Sunday afternoon.
Very good steak forward restaurant by Stephen Starr. Has a hunting lodge vibe and lots of grilled options from Pork porterhouse to beef ribeye as well as oysters and clams.
Delicious food, wonderful service, highly recommend!
Delicious food, great atmosphere for brunch
Great place for steaks! Order the biscuits.
Went on a Friday night for dinner. The place was packed. Really impressed with the service, the staff nailed it. Food was delicious, especially the biscuits and the ice cream cake for my birthday. I had high expectations because of the Starr brand and I was not disappointed.
Great food and ambiance. Love the rustic decor.
Picky eaters didn't all enjoy the food - particularly the chicken "with feet"! lol, but our waiter was OUTSTANDING. Food also could have been more seasoned.
Delicious food and very cool ambiance. Drinks are inventive, and serving staff are well aquainted with the menu, offering really wonderful recommendations. I look forward to going back.
The interior design provided a laid back retro vibe. We had the deviled eggs, lamb and chicken - all were solid choices.
Great saloon atmosphere for relaxed yet “fine” dining. Chef Marjorie Meeks Bradley’s kitchen turns out stellar apps, smalls and sides. Service is superb. The cocktails are imaginative and the wine list expansive and well priced. Mains include an interesting whole Bo Bo chicken, lamb, pork and fish, all well prepared. Steaks are very good and the butcher’s cut (hanger steak) is delicious and a great value.
A great meal with a very helpful and attentive waiter. The cost is on the pricier side, but perfect for special occasions.
Very agreeable menu of (if there can be such a thing) innovative, adventurous comfort food. Excellent service. Wine and bar well thought through.
We had an amazing experience here. The ambience, food, and service were excellent. I'd go there just for the biscuits. Amazing. My husband's steak was one of the best he's had in a while.
Always a fantastic environment, the food is excellent, and and staff (service) makes the experience the overtop.
Had brunch their for Father's Day. Service was good, even though the waiter forgot to put in our order for the grits side dish. It was ok because it wasn't on our final bill. I love my food seasoned but our brunch was just a tad bit salty. Otherwise everything was very good. I would definitely go back again to check out dinner.
This is our fourth time dining at St. Anselm, this time for brunch. Service is impeccable. The food is outstanding although be aware that the servings are large. The biscuits with pimento cheese are a delicious shared plate. Eggs Your Way is what a brunch should be. Don't forget to try the homemade sausage. The cocktails are inventive and fun. If I have one complaint, it's that the high warehouse ceilings mean it can get very loud with a full restaurant. Being in a booth makes it a bit easier to hear your dining companions. All in all, a fantastic dining experience.
The food was good though not enough to justify the price. We ordered a steak and our server didn’t even ask us what temperature we wanted it. The ambiance is also funny in that it feels like a mix between a Cracker Barrel and a TGI Friday’s. Servers in T-shirt’s also don’t go too well with $30+ entrees. Probably won’t go back.
Very accommodating for change in reservations, friendly service, and excellent recommendations. The menu has a unique blend of flavors with a little something for everyone.
Lovely food, lovely atmosphere and great service. Came for brunch and would come again. Recommended!
Amazing brunch. Food was only surpassed by the service. Can't wait to return for dinner.
Waiters were so friendly and helpful! Food was delicious!!
Amazing food, amazing service. We got the ribeye, the biscuits and the steak tartare. We couldn’t have been more satisfied! Highly recommend
Terrific dinner! The location is a little difficult as we were driving in from the suburbs. But parking wasn't bad. Service was friendly and helpful. Oysters, jumbo shrimp and steaks were great. We will make a point of coming back if we are in the area again.
Special occasion or date night or just want good service and a tremendous meal. Fits all categories! Wonderful evening.
Outstanding food with knowledgeable, attentive service. We were seated in a back room which made it so easy to have conversation. Wish we had saved room for dessert!
I've only been one time. Was meat-heavy but excellently prepared. Also very good, somewhat innovative side dishes. Chop salad came with best thick bacon I've ever had. Wine list is phenomenal, though I didn't care for the red wine on tap which was served actually cold (not room temp cool). The server was slow and uninformed. Granted it was a very busy night but things were painfully slow and there were only 4 of us. I'm willing to go back but won't rush to do so.
St Anselms was AMAZING! My husband and I went for his birthday dinner this past week on a Wednesday. The restaurant was busy and full but not too packed. We had a reservation and when we arrived we popped over to the bar for a drink. We were served instantly and my cocktail was delicious (it was a gin something or other) and my husband got a draft beer.
We purchased a gift card for a friend when we arrived and the manager came out immediately to help us and even talked us though other Starr restaurants we might want to try.
Our server was super knowledgeable about not only the food, but the wines that the restaurant offered as well. The wine we wanted was sold out and we sampled two that she suggested as similar. She gave us great recommendations and the food was de-lish. HIGHLY recommend the biscuits. We got a great asparagus dish and grilled broccoli, too. I forget the cut of steak my husband got and I got the rockfish with a saffron mussel sauce. The saffron mussel sauce was out of this world. We also had a piece of carrot cake for dessert and it was DIVINE.
I am a pescatarian (while my husband is a meat-eater) so going to a place that's famous for it's steaks is always a little risky for me. This place had so many options for me to try! I will definitely be going back. It feels classy and swanky but the food is elevated beyond a "basic" steak house.
Food was great. It was not complex, but bursting with flavor. Ask for butter and honey instead of pimento cheese spread with the hot biscuits. The whipped butter melts as soon as it touches the biscuit and the honey brings it all together. Warning, don’t fill up on the biscuits since there are many goodies still to come.
Food was delicious and service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Appreciated that the staff seemed knowledgeable about all menu options, including non-alcoholic drinks. Great recommendations and we loved everything we ate-- especially the swiss chard!
Yummy food, presented well - including the crab deviled eggs and the “wedge” salad with a big slab of bacon on top. Delicious!
Love this place, enough said! Everything is delightful.
Overpriced food that is not worth the price paid. Waited a longtime (45 minutes) for food to be served and was disappointed on the whole experience. The fries were overcooked and taste dry and stale. The stake was no better than a typical chain establishment. Aside from the $48 dollar 16 oz stake, all the portions were small and overcooked and boring. Absolutely nothing special about the food and could see that there was no pride or quality for the amount of money charged. Save your money and go to 5-guys, and if you must go to St. Anselm - then be prepared to go to 5-guys afterward as you will leave hungry and disappointed.
Great food. Shareable portions. Service was top notch all around.
Most enjoyable dining experience we've had in a while (other than the miusc being a little loud)! Great food - all meat, so be in the mood, great service. Relaxed atmosphere. Great vibe. Good prices. Easy parking. look forward to returning!
Impeccable service coupled with great overall quality. I very much appreciated seeing that each dish was tasted before being sent out, to ensure quality. Additionally, our server was very attentive, and went above and beyond most service staff that you can expect in DC.
