What Insiders Are Saying
Fancy fine dining, San Francisco style. Bring your elders.
I love it but they need some noise abatement . There was a very loud group and it was so much better after they left.
At the recommendation of my daughter, who had been to Spruce prior, we decided to drop in last Monday evening. I was delightfully impressed with the entire evening. Our waiter, Nick, was not only very cordial and friendly, but extremely knowledgeable and well spoken. The dishes were all excellent and represented a very thoughtful and unique presentation. The duck was quite simply the best I’ve ever had. We will be back!
Everything was fantastic!
Had a wonderful time at Spruce. We were treated like VIPs. The food was excellent. I ordered a drink that I ended up not liking. They replaced the drink and took it off our tab. Service was amazing. Very impressive wine list!
Love this restaurant. Destination dining whenever I’m in the Bay Area!
The food at Spruce definitely meets and probably exceeds expectations. I had the duck, and I have to say it was the best duck filet I’ve ever eaten. My only qualm with Spruce was that the service was not quite as quick as you’d like. It took us a while to be seated, despite having a reservation. And then during the meal it just generally took a bit longer for anything to get done than what’d you normally expect or want, i.e., getting cocktails, waiting for the dessert menu, waiting for food, etc. Of course the service delays can be attributed to the immense popularity, as the restaurant was quite abuzz when we got in there. Slow service notwithstanding, it was still an incredible meal and I will definitely be a returning customer
The staff at Spruce were lovely! We had a great anniversary dinner and the food was exquisite.
Excellent food with outstanding service and ambience.
Overall a very good experience. Good cocktail. Some amazing items on the menu. A good but not amazing wine list. Not as stuffy as some of the comments on there website make it put to be. I'll go back soon to try the burger at the bar.
It was much too loud. Could hardly hear the person sitting across from me.
Very, very slow service for Mother’s Day. They weren’t busy. So I don’t understand the delay.
Caviar with champagne by Bara, which is a favorite, asparagus appetizer was delightful and the duck was done to perfection. Jessica, our server was outstanding and made the evening a success. Very much appreciated. Wish the grapefruit desert was less tart, but enjoyed the attempt. Again, a first class experience. Thank you.
Took my family to Spruce for my graduation dinner and absolutely everything was excellent. The service was phenomenal; the wine list extensive; they allowed for substitutions when asked. Was one of the best dining experiences I've had in San Francisco. Perfect place for a romantic date or to bring parents from out of town. Highly recommend.
A favorite, special lunch spot for me and my friends!
Had a fabulous birthday dinner with my girlfriend. Everything was delicious. They have a spectacular wine list, albeit pricey.
Great experience, great service. I do wish the lunch service would be faster.
Always a delightful entertaining choice for business meetings, celebrations, or family time.
Spruce was outstanding. The service was above and beyond. Great food and great energy.
Really slow service
Fun time...good vib...good food
Perhaps the best meal EVER! Beautifully presented, outstanding tastes in the fixed price lunch with great wine choices for each course. Not a lot of food, but quite memorable experience for a special occasion.
Great spot and we were seated by the fireplace in the front. Very romantic place.
We went to spruce for our 4 year anniversary. Spruce made an effort to make the night special by congratulating us as they greeted us. The server was also in the know and was very attentive. The food was excellent, I had pork and she had duck, both top level entrees. They then went above and beyond by giving us a desert we didnt order that had written in chocolate "Happy Anniversary." Overall I would have to say it was one of my best dining experiences and the service was ultra top notch. Looking forward to coming back again!
Lunch at Spruce is such a treat. A true day off in the city, celebrated with understated elegance. My friend and I had different soups and we were both swooning over how over-worldly they were. Wish the chef would share his secrets--
Spruce is really such a great spot to celebrate a birthday. The fun card on the table is charming.
Food taste not as spectacular as anticipated or for the cost.
Spruce deserves its Michelin star. The food is exquisite and the service impeccable. Also, the wine list is remarkable.
Waited 20 minutes for drinks... one had to be sent back due to “stuff” in the drink. It took over 10 minutes for a replacement. We were told something was malfunctioning...hmmm. Ordered a starter... it arrived with the entrees. What can I say? Food was cold and not up to par. After a polite complaint and several other mishaps the manager decided to comp the meal. Very nice but I would rather have had a good meal with good service. It was a special day with family that traveled to dine at Spruce (which I raved about) and I was truly embarrassed by the entire experience. Wondering how this restaurant is still around?
We love Spruce, the food, the service. However this time we noticed the price has gone up substantially. For two people without drinks it costed more than $200. This is even when we shared the appetizer, the soup, and the dessert. We also found out that our friend had called Spruce to order a dessert for us but it was never served. I am sure Spruce has a good explanation for it but that’s unexpected.
So consistently amazing, love Spruce!
Amazingly beautiful, thoughtful & delicious food. Phenomenal service, lots of wait staff to make it all perfect. Will definitely return on our next trip to SFO.
Got the gem lettuce salad, which was an interesting take on a wedge salad. The duck breast was tasty - not under seasoned or overcooked. The chicken with embedded chicken sausage was unique and very tasty. The rice pudding was a surprise - completely vegan, and yet didn't taste it - was phenomenal. The cocktails we had before dinner were solid, if not standouts. Well worth considering for a nice meal.
Great food. Very noise . Service ok. Expensive
Love this restaurant. Amazing meal and service. Perfect venue for a business dinner.
Service was spotty. Especially once we got our entrees. No one came to ask how the food was.
They forgot to bring olives appetizer altogether.
They warned us our plates were very hot when they brought our entres, but actually the plates were only warm & my omelet, my husband’s salmon & my son’s halibut too.
The beignets were delicious; warm, light & sugary sweet.
It was my husband’s birthday. He wanted to go to Spruce instead of Gary Danko. He regretted that decision after our dinner last night.
Good thing I took him to GD last weekend for a pre-birthday dinner. It was delicious.
Celebrated my parents anniversary! Wonderful food and experience. Service was excellent. Also had a quiet table in the front, in a reserved room. Perfection!
All of the staff were great! And so was the food. Would recommend this as a beautiful dinner spot for a date or special occasion.
The omelet was perfect. The service was not great considering it was not very crowded...they are usually spot on but this day they were not.
The service staff were excellent. The food was delicious. We had an amazing time at Spruce!
