Everything was great, fabulous even. However there was one or two noticeable lulls in service between courses. The gluten free guest in our party was served a regular Benedict special and would have eaten it had she not asked the server and had him check, good thing because it would have made her very ill. The dessert came before the coffee which took so long it was luke warm not close to being hot and it was not what we had ordered either.
Spruce is special. The room is warm and well designed . The food is delicious and well prepared . The service is exceptional . It can be a drop in at the bar or a major event in the dining room . Perfect for chatting and enjoying a meal or celebrating with friends and family in a welcoming environment
So disappointed. I've been hearing about this burger forever and it was sub-par. Very dry and unseasoned. Same with the hash - average at best. The service was awful - we were pretty much ignored for the first 20 minutes after being seated. Our check was wrong (charged us a few extra dollars on each entree). The only bright spot was the coffee cake.
This restaurant features exceptional food and generally excellent service, but the service was unaccountably off this time, not bad but not up to its usual standards. All the food was delicious. We had cauliflower veloute, little gem salad, tortellini, the lobster roll, pastrami and three desserts. All were terrific.
Spruce is a great place for special occasions. We celebrated my birthday here and was pleasantly surprised how a birthday card magically appeared. The baby kale Caesar salad was excellent followed by the delicious French Omelet, finished with the yummy beignets served with chocolate sauce and creme anglaise. Yes, they did surprise me with a special treat with a candle, too. The food and service at Spruce is excellent. Highly recommend Spruce for all the foodies in the world.
Went here for a Sunday night date with my husband - we live in the neighborhood and have been meaning to try it out. Everyone was friendly and attentive. We sat in the front semi-private room with the fireplace, a real treat! The food and wine were all delicious and well-balanced. The only surprise was when the waiter offered the special white truffles (in lieu of the truffles already on my gnocchi) as they were in season, but without mentioning it would cost $60 MORE. I didn't think to ask in the moment and if not mentioned directly, that it couldn't be a major swap out, so that was an interesting surprise that I would NOT have agreed to. Be upfront when you're adding 3oz of something that cost double the meal itself.
I️t was very nice that the birthday girl got a card from the restaurant. However, the table next to us had a birthday and was given dessert with a candle. I️ expected the same for my guest, but was disappointed when no candles were presented on our dessert. I️ feel the restaurant should be consistent with all guests.
Food was fabulous and service was excellent. We paid $20 for 3 coffee and I️t was terrible - had a strange after-taste like old brew coffee.
Definitely a great spot in SF to enjoy very well prepared food. Fantastic wine menu. Pretty place, elegant, nice atmosphere where people dress nicely, no sneakers or hoodies, what I appreciate, as European I am. Service just ok. Our server pretended to be the professional and charming guy he is not, sweating... and an extra server pouring water every 5 min it's too often, in my opinion. To get a last bite while being asked if I've finished is not nice. Maybe my sense of good service is different. I go out for dinning for having fun, not just for eating because I'm hungry! Anyway, nice restaurant. Worth it a visit.
We had a spectacular meal. We chose the porterhouse steak was cooked to a true perfect medium rare. The cheese selection was near to perfect and the charcuterie was off the charts. We had fabulous service and can highly recommend Sprucd to any other foodie!!
Our dinner was fabulous from the moment we walked in the door. We celebrated my husband’s birthday and everyone was so nice and congratulated him. Our food was just wonderful as was the wait staff and our waiter who was very knowledgeable. Even as we left all congratulated him. Would highly recommended.
The service was phenomenal. The cocktails were entertaining and delicious. We enjoyed the snacks. Loved the butternut squash soup. We also ordered the porterhouse. While big, it didn’t live up to the $195 hype. Served without resting enough, it was drowning in a pool of blood by the time we got to eat it. And not melt in the mouth yummy. Chewy and could have used more flavor.
I love Spruce having eaten there at least 25 times very often splurging by asking Pascal to get an entrée size Foie Gras for lunch. Unfortunately Pascal was not there last Saturday and Chase was out waiter. Everything was great as usual except my friend's Ribeye steak which was only less than half eaten and saved for dinner later that night was never handed over with the other food to go. I was very disappointed especially after spending $300 for two for lunch.
The food was very good although portions somewhat small. We felt the menu was a bit pricey. The service was a bit spotty. We had brought our own bottle of wine as it was a special dinner. We were asked by the waiter if we would like it decanted. We said that was not necessary and asked him to just open the bottle and let it air a bit. He took the bottle to the sommelier table and we noticed that it was being decanted. The waiter upon returning to the sommelier table realized this and had the sommelier pour the wine back into the bottle. When she came to the table with the bottle to pour our wine she was not going to mention this until my wife inquired. Of course, we were not charged corkage on our wine.
We enjoyed ourselves but we all would agree that the price tag does not match the food. When 3 out of the 4 entrees were $90 (specials) the bar was set pretty darn high and unfortunately none came close to that. Service matches the price tag. The wines list was great and so was their sommelier. Will we be back? Not so sure. To walk out of a restaurant spending about $1000 (including tip) for 4 people we needed to have a mind blowing experience. If we do come back, I would order straight off the menu and stay away from the “specials”.
Traveled 1.5 hrs to get there from east bay, and met friends from Marin. Heard great things about food. We were there for Sunday brunch. Maybe dinners are better? Sunday brunch was not good. I had duck confit Benedict. No duck, runny eggs, one thin half of muffin, no hollandaise. Ladies had French omelet. Small with a slice of Brie on top. Little taste. Other guy had hamburger and fries. That looked ok, but hard to screw up a burger and fries. Best thing was Biegnet appetizer. Nice atmosphere and good service but based on food will not come back. Manager came by numerous times to fill water glasses. Looked grim and never said one word.
The service and atmosphere were great, as usual, but both my wife and I felt that the food was a bit off in our last visit. In fact, both my wife and I were wondering if the chef had changed. My wife mentioned that her corn soup was much too sweet, and although I often like some sweetness in soups I had to agree with her that it was much too sweet. My soup was less sweet but not particularly flavorful. For the main course, my wife’s halibut was definitely dry and over cooked, and my New York dry-aged steak was pretty tough although the sauce was good. I think that for the steak itself, though, I can do much better myself in cooking a good medium-rare steak by getting a choice ribeye from Costco and using my backyard grill. Finally, the deserts were good, as usual. They have a good pastry chef and we loved the beignets.
It is extremely difficult to find fault with Spruce. The service was incredibly attentive; my iced tea was almost always refilled at the halfway point. The food was incredible. I had two appetizers: tortellini and a little gem salad. I had the scallops as an entree; they were terrific. I finished with a chocolate mousse cake dessert.
