We at Spruce, the sister restaurant of The Village Pub in Woodside, look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to the neighborhood. Let us excite your senses and arouse your expectation. We await the opportunity of taking detailed and gracious care of your time with us.
Our dinner was excellent at Spruce! We started with wonderful cocktails made with Patique Cherry Liqueur! Then we had the Butternut Risotto which was great, the duck sugo pasta which was delicious and the duck breast which is always amazing! We finished the meal with the beignets which are divine, and an amazing summer tart made with Patique Cherry Liqueur, once again! And the atmosphere is lovely here as well. Can't wait to return again.
We were going to a concert and had to be finished in a shorter amount of time than they usually allow for a party of 5. They were very proficient at managing our time schedule. Somehow they were professional enough to manage this difficulty without our feeling rushed. We will return when we have time to fully enjoy the experience.
Excellent food. We all had the hamburgers on the brunch menu and they were outstanding. We got a look at the other food being served and it good as well. Aileen, our server, was awesome. Super attentive and helpful. The whole restaurant staff couldn’t have been nicer. The cookies are great too! I will definitely visit again.
Our waiter was amazing and the food exceptional. I loved this experience.
Several of the dishes were of varying quality. Service was extremely slow. It took nearly 30 minutes to get a round of cocktails for a table of 6.
Very crowded on a Saturday night. Waiter and staff were slightly less attentive due to crowd and number of tables to tend to. Food was great although duck was asked to be prepared close to medium well and was presented as medium which meant rest of the table dined while waiting for dish to be corrected.
Nice selection of food for the prix fixe lunch, and it was delicious. Service was great too!
The service and food are fantastic, one of my favorite places to go eat.
Fantastic in every way. Food was delicious- every flavor was vibrant and fresh. Fine dining with a fun and relaxing atmosphere. One of the best overall dining experiences in recent memory!
Had a wonderful evening with my family celebrating my husband's birthday. Will definitely return again. Loved our server, he was great!
Enjoyed very much. Feels ‘adult’ and is comfortable (for SF) and they were gracious regarding my friend and I being in prolonged conversation.
We’ve been several times to Spruce. This was by far the least enjoyable. Very slow service with lots of attitude. Shameful really. The omelette was delicious. Seriously ridiculously priced new “brunch”
Menu. My partner doesn’t want to return. It was extremely slow in there as well. Hmm.
Amazing service and great food , desserts too .. ....................................................................................,,,,,,...............
Great food for the price for a Michelin starred place!!! Great ambience and great service. Will def come again!
We really enjoyed an overall wonderful evening with Nick and Ryan as well as a couple of other ambassadors who stopped by for a visit. It was a moment of serendipity to find out that our good friend Vija, is now a server there as well. We loved her as we got to know her when she worked at the Yacht Club in Walnut Creek. She terrific with guests and is a diligent and hard worker.
The slight off-tick in the food rating is because the duck did not impress me quite as it did in my first visit last May – there was a couple of lines of sinew running through it, almost from end to end that made it difficult to cut, and, despite the fact that the meat was beautifully tender as I had remembered it, it made it a little difficult to eat. That not withstanding, without question, we’ll be back.
Been here a few times....wine list is outstanding....service superb....and I the food always good
*Amazing service, food & atmosphere
the white truffles were a very special treat
Pretentious, stuffy, expensive and overrated.
I felt the server could have explained to us that we had ordered too much rib eye for 4 people. he was friendly but not overly helpful. Food was good but not 1 Michelin star. I think village pub in WoodSide is much better
Great special occasion place. Hosting a great friend in from Louisiana and wanted to show him how good SF cuisine can be. Spruce did not disappoint. Fabulous salmon and a great new pasta dish.
A server recommended a pasta of white truffle without price. It was so expensive price.
As a long time Spruce customer and fan, our dinner was mediocre. Service, as always was top flight. A game special was improperly prepared, a melon salad was as if the kitchen was playing a cruel joke and the octopus was tough and old. Love the ambiance and staff but the food value was poor. Hope its better next time
Spruce is a consistent pleasure.
It was National Cheeseburger Day, according to our server, and they offered up their regular SpruceBurgers with cheese. Great food, great service. However, the noise level was in the stratosphere, which was disappointing because being able to hear normal conversation was once one of Spruce's best points!
I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. I was celebrating a birthday with a date and we were seated in a quiet corner table that allowed the dinner to feel incredibly intimate. We were faced toward each other but angled so that the servers could attend to our every need.
The sourdough bread to start was perfect. Crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle.
The citrus kampachi, recommended by our wonderful server, was fresh and delicious. The topped radishes added the perfect crunch to every bite.
The server told us about the day's special, the 33oz 45-day dry aged steak to share. It was incredible. Every mouthful was juicy and tender. The bearnaise on the side and the other sauce (i forget the name) were amazing pairings. The vegetables were roasted to perfection. There was so much food that we took it home and ate it cold the next morning. It was still just as tasty.
We ended the night with chocolate cake and olive oil gelato even though we were full to busting. We even got an extra slice of cake with a candle for our birthday.
Overall, every part of the meal was incredible and we had a perfect birthday thanks to the amazing staff at Spruce.
Spruce is not an inexpensive restaurant and it does not position itself as one. At a fine establishment like this, one would expect service to be professional, to say the least.
Service on the night was slow, inefficient and at times non existent. Our orders were not taken until 30 minutes we have arrived. The lemons which were offered to us to go with our hot water only came after we followed up 3 times. The staff gave us a “I’m sorry I’m doing my best”, “take it or leave it in a polite way” kind of attitude which was extremely off-putting. The same standard of service prevailed throughout the meal.
The food, unfortunately, did not manage to salvage the meal either. The corn veloute was lukewarm and extremely underseasoned. All of the mains lacked temperature which made me question how long the food was sitting on the counter before service. My chicken was overcooked which was quite a feat considering it was cooked sous vide. My friends’ duck breast and beef were also underwhelming.
The desserts were forgettable.
To be fair, I understand there were two very large parties on the same night and most if not all manpower had been diverted to serve those parties. Waiterstaff appeared to be very flustered and I do feel for them. That being said, if the restaurant does not have capacity or the ability to handle such big crowds I would suggest them to stop taking reservations instead of continue to do so and do a crappy job at it. Patrons in the nearby tables were also dissatisfied with both the food and the service.
Dinner ended up being shy of 500 dollars for 3 which is by no means cheap, yet for the food and service that we got - i would honestly have rather gone to inn and out. At least the food and service is consistent.
One last thing, it was a birthday celebration and I had made a remark at the time of reservation but it was obviously forgotten.
Extremely disappointing and I had such high expectations for it.
Stellar dinner following the opening of our new business.
Wish we had a Spruce like restaurant in LA.
Food is always delicious.
Thank you to the entire team.
It's challenging for restaurants today to rise above the buzz and keep the doors open. I get it. But when I order risotto, I expect a rice porridge and a savory taste profile. Spruce delivered a corn risotto that tasted like a bowl of sugar with no texture...think puree. Inedible. Our waiter scrambled to make up for the disappointment at the end of the meal with an embarrassing caravan of desserts after we told him we were full. He brought us a bowl of their version of beignets (not close to those found New Orleans) followed by small squares of blondies. We didn't touch those. Out came what looked like bite-sized cubes of white wedding cake with a thin layer of insignificant frosting. Ugghh. During the evening, we also saw a sommelier/manager drink an uninvited small glass of wine from what we assumed was a guest's bottle kept cold in a large wine tub near his station. The upcharge on a Kermit Lynch Rose we ordered was 200 percent. The menu is severely limited and the descriptions of dishes misleading. Go elsewhere.
We were 2 women , work colleagues , dining early . Our waiter did not tell us the same specials we overheard at the small table next to us , he never came back to offer wine when food was served ( we both would have enjoyed a glass with our meals as we had a cocktail first ) , and he seemed rushed to get us to turn the table. He was very nice ,but missed cues that would have made for a more pleasant dining experience in a place known for finer dining. The food was fine ,but not outstanding as one would expect .
One very nice touch : my companion was served a small soup durning my 1st course as she had only ordered a main.
A very nice meal in a traditional setting. The restaurant was busy for a Thursday lunchtime which was good to see. The service was good and the food very tasty.
Took about an hour for them to bring a nice bottle of wine out. I’m not exaggerating. A full hour. We sat drinkless for at least an hour after ordering. Service was extremely slow and things were missed. Overall, we weren’t very impressed. Also, some portions were tiny and some were massive. The guys had to order a burger to supplement.
Spruce is a very nice restaurant and waitstaff is very attentive. It is just very expensive in proportion to the food portions. It's a bit pricey but the restaurant was packed on a Tuesday night.
Best food in town. Service is impeccable and noise levels are tamped down, allowing easy conversation across the table.
Wonderful food and staff. Would have liked to be able to order a la carte. Also Salmon Eggs Benedict was a very large portion...could have been for two persons.
Fantastic. Can't believe I trying it now for the 1st time and not sooner. Can't wait to be back.
We celebrated my husband ‘s birthday. Our waiter was fabulous. The food was excellent.
The food was amazing and the level of service was excellent. I've already made reservations to return next month it was that good.
Just wonderful, food perfect ,the server was excellent ,the ambience and settting all elegant and inviting
can't wait to go back
Delicious breakfast. The Indian pancakes with mango aioli are outstanding.
