The food was very good - I had the mussels and the broth had just the right amount of pernod to give it good flavor. We were celebrating a birthday and and with dessert, my sister was presented with a dinner plate that had Happy Birthday inscribed on the plate along with a small morsel of cheese cake and a single candle - very nice touch.

Great food with attentive service without being intrusive. Creative twist on some dishes. The kitchen knows how to cook the dishes without being dry.

It was Valentine’s Day and they had an excellent prefix menu. It was excellent. The service and meal was excellent. We were seated in the front room by the fire place but the room was cold. Two couples were seated in the room but complained and were quickly moved to the main dining room. I had asked the hostess if they could turn up the thermostat and they accommodated our request and did warm up the room it my wife was still cold.
BUT the meal was EXCELLENT as well as the service.

Service felt really clunky.
Ordered two apps the tortellini and the charcuterie board. Was really disappointed when they both came out at the same time. Seems pretty obvious they should’ve each been their own course right? When charcuterie was dropped the runner was about to go over what each one was when our sever came up behind her squeezed her out to give us plates and utensils (probably should’ve been done before that moment right?) the girl never told us what each item was as a result. Said he would pick up where she left off which he didn’t and everyone walked away. So never really knew what was in the board. Never got steak knives for the steak. Steak was also super bland, clearly cooked in a bag which is just not ideal in my opinion. The amaro we ordered with dessert didn’t show up till we were long done with dessert and had already accepted it probably wasn’t coming at all. Pretty lackluster meal overall. The price tag definitely stung.

For the first time I was really disappointed in one of my favorite restaurants. The service was off. The food wasn't delivered as ordered. The meal wasn't piping hot. Overall, an iconic SF place did not live up to its previous self.

Absolutely flawless execution service-wise and food-wise. Ambiance lively and lovely. Expect a HUGE bill, however. Prices are off the charts. We have lived in SF and are in the food business, so we expect higher prices. This was much too much. (Came to $600+ for 6 drinks total, 4 appetizers, 4 entrees, and 2 desserts.) Judge for yourself. A wonderful meal with great good friends, but a whopping bill.

I had two lemon drop Frist one was good but second one did not taste good at all. I thought it was odd to serve the same cocktail in such different taste.
I had lobster which was good but side vege, onion was too hard and could not finish it. My boyfriend had beef. He said Ruth Chris was better.
I ordered chocolate mousse for dessert and it was wonderful. However the pot of tea was pathetic. It was very weak as if they steeped it with used tea bag (probably they did) and lukewarm. My boyfriend had coffee and he said not good at all.
I’m gluten free and they accommodated it very well. More than anything we enjoyed the Atmosphere and the service.
I was a little disappointed with bad cocktails tea and side vegetables.

We are regulars who live in the neighborhood...but Spruce always delights. Had probably our top experience of many recently. Our server Daniel was a lovely host and went above and beyond in making our evening extraordinary. Among other things, we had been in a while ago, had an excellent bottle of wine and had forgotten the name. Daniel found it for us so we could take a picture and remember for next time! That was quite a feat as Spruce has an extensive wine list and we had racked our brains to figure it out on past trips! At Spruce, always a wonderful meal, lovely surroundings, terrific service and a place that feels like home, elevated.

Went for $25 restaurant week lunch and ordered all options and felt all dishes were creative and well prepared and very tasty...caesar salad, burger, duck confit, cauliflower soup and chic dessert w/chickry ice cream. Waiter was very friendly and efficient..even offered to split glasses on wine and his wine suggestions were very good. What we love most about Spruce is the setting..tables are well placed so that conversation is never an issue and you can actually enjoy the other guest as well as the food! One of our very favorite places in SF!!

First time here. Knew it was going to be expensive, but expensive does not always mean "good". The service at Spruce was absolutely stellar as was the food. It was a rare treat to feel like the amount of money spent was worth the food and service...

We lunched because of SF Restaurant week; and of course that was a really good deal. The choices for that 3-course special menu were good. We chose duck confit; however, I would not order again as duck was somewhat dry, although the crispy skin was great. The entree was served with a nice sauce and Swiss Chard. The cauliflower soup was delicious! Dessert was chocolate mousse cake with scoop of ice cream and both were very tasty. What looked like a small portion was quite enough for dessert. All in all, we were satisfied with the meal and service. Ambience was nice -- tables are far enough apart so you do not hear your neighbors' conversations. . Prices may sound high but for the quality of food and service, overall Spruce is worthwhile to keep as a go-to place. We would return another time to try the burger. Wine choices were good. We chose to have glass of sauvignon blanc.

This was our first time at Spruce and it didn't disappoint. We had the kampachi and citrus/fennel salad for first courses. We've never had yellowtail so rich and buttery. The yuzu dressing on the salad seemed too tart at first bite, but the chef wisely included lots of toasted hazelnuts which balanced the acid. The salmon main course was cooked perfectly and included perfectly prepared seasonal vegetables. The amuse bouche was kale and turnip with a black olive sauce which nicely complemented the vegetables. The only disappointment was the side of roasted maitake mushrooms which were overdone and flavorless. The dessert Beignets were light and lovely. They didn't need the creme Anglaise (ordinary) or chocolate (very good) sauces. The wine list is extensive, the decor is sophisticated, the seating is comfortable, and service was excellent.

I wanted to introduce Spruce to my friends who had not been there before during the San Francisco restaurant week. The four of us had the 3-course set lunch. It offered great value. However, the food quality was not up to the normal standard. The cauliflower soup was just lukewarm. (My husband and I were there for the New Year's Eve dinner. We had the same soup. It was served at the table and it was excellent)
The kale salad was very good. The burger was just OK. I am a little disappointed that the overall experience was not as good as I expected for my friends.

Well we went because it was part of the SF Restaurant Week program. Our first time
We entered and were politely greeting by a hostess. Since it was near to the end of the lunch hour I suggested a table in the center. It was set up for 3 BUT there were 3 other same sized tables with only two guests at them. She declined twice and put us back in a corner alcove. Great interior design and ambiance
Aprox 5 min later she seated a twosome there(who had a quick lunch and left) Our server was
very nice and knowledgeable. We both had an interesting soup ( but lukewarm) followed by a very good duck confit(also lukewarm) The busser started to give us bread but then didn't.Maybe because we were having the "special"?
I looked at the wine list-- so many outstanding choices-- and decided to have 2 different reds by the glass- both were good. The wine service was excellent. I recognized some of the wines and
was able to determine that the mark up was about 4x wholesale- one might have even been 5x
The busser was very noticeable- noisily stacking plates etc while clearing a nearby table. Also doing setups at nearby tables
If I dined off the regular menu I'd not be happy when factoring everything in

Spruce never disappoints. The food is always excellent, the service is impeccable, and the ambiance is truly one of the best restaurants in the city. Notably, one can have a conversation at dinner because the noise is moderate. Decor and vibe is sophisticated, and more like a New York scene than a neighborhood in SF.

Fairly good. Great ambiance, great service, food was good, but not good enough to warrant the price tag. Dinner portions were not very big, the gnocchi had at most 10 piece, which wouldn't have mattered if they were perfectly cooked and they had flavorful truffles, but they weren't and didn't. They charged $9.95 for flat water at our table of two, when given the option of flat or sparkling. Overall, it fits the neighborhood of being a nice venue and high priced food, but there are a lot better places in SF that you can find that match that price level.

Food was outstanding - I have been here multiple times and always have enjoyed the consistently enjoyable dishes (especially the steak tartare and burger). The service is also timely and professional, with water being regularly refilled and an amuse bouche presented every time that I have dined there. However, we were charged for a glass of wine (that cost ~$33!) that we didn't have - when we called to explain the issue, we were informed that the table next to us ordered the wine and didn't have to pay, lucky them! We are glad that it was corrected, but this is an unfortunate oversight that should not have happened (especially considering the price of the wine). Will definitely return.
