Food has always been consistent but service this time was extremely slow
Excellent place for an intimate dinner experience! Exceptional menu, very knowledgable staff and a true delight in SF.
Our go-to restaurant these days. Great service and ambience outside. We also get to-go pretty frequently.
Last night was our 6 year old daughter’s birthday. The entire staff seemed to know it was Katherine’s birthday and went out of their way to say happy birthday and they all remembered her name. There was a special dessert with 6 candles. She was thrilled, we were happy.
The food and service were both outstanding and accordingly very expensive. We celebrated a birthday there and were prepared for the cost. As much as we enjoyed the experience and well worth the expense, we would still just go back for another special occasion.
The food was very tasty with layers of flavor, and the presentation of each course was like a piece of art! The service was exceptional!!!!! It was a positive and memorable experience!!!!
Amazing food and amazing service. Definitely lived up to the reputation.
Service was exceptionally good and everyone acted like they were happy that I was there.
Truly enjoyed our experience. The food was delicious! We loved the seating outside and the heating lamps kept us warm.
One of the best restaurants in S.F. Everything was perfect! I’ll certainly be back soon.
Food is always good. I enjoy brunch and dinner there.
Spruce is a great place to celebrate a special occasion. We came for my boyfriends birthday and everything was just so wonderful. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and overall ambience was so classy and intimate.
My go to place for business dinners - quiet and good for conversations
Great food and service. I enjoyed going through their wine list.
Food was excellent. Service was slow. Would go back to try the other dishes.
Service was wonderful. So relaxing and the pace felt almost European, no rush at all.
Creative food week deserved of accolades. Plan to return even though one dish was over cooked as I can forgive that mistake given flavor was still great
It was excellent food and service. We had a great time.
Everything was amazing. Food was very flavorful and wine was absurdly good. However, it was quite cold where we sat. I think they had the door outside open the entire time.
Remy was excellent. He was hilarious and professional at the same time. All the food was amazing and we weren't mad at the Billecart Salmon Brut Rose and the Camut Calvados either!
My partner and I experienced one of the best lunches we have ever enjoyed.
Aside from a very quiet table in your beautiful indoor setting distanced from other tables, two major factors account for our experience.
1. Our server Courtney was amazing. She is so lovely, intelligent and professional. We felt total comfort from the first moment. She helped us with the menu and wine selection. So perfect resulting in a perfect meal experience.
2. The food and wine were so unique and special. The charges were also very reasonable considering the extreme quality of our server, food and wine. We gave Courtney an additional gratuity beyond the base 20% fee - which is also very reasonable.
All in all, we will be back regularly! What a treasure!
I had a great New Year's celebration lunch with a friend in their parklet (comfortable, heated, provided shelter from occasional drizzle, but also lots of open air ventilation). I was able to request their French omelet even though they were serving their weekday lunch menu. Shared a salade lyonnaise with veal sweatbreads (good!), a duck confit (delicious) and the omelet (delicately cooked with fresh spinach, slice of brie and Mornay sauce), and side order of fries with my friend. Also a good half bottle of Mourvedre blend rose (Domaine de Terrebrune from Bandol) -- they have a wide selection of half bottles in general) and capped the meal off with another round of drinks. Service was, as usual, attentive, precise and friendly. There was a bit of a wait between finishing the half bottle and getting our orders in for another round, but we were lunching leisurely, so it wasn't an issue. We ended up spending a very relaxing 3 hours and a half there (!). Friend enjoyed her Autumn Fever cocktail with brandy, calvados, apple and maple. I enjoyed a glass of Riesling.
Back in September, I'd had an also pleasant but somewhat less successful lunch there. Glad I returned for a all-around better experience!
Great food, great service!
This was our third time dining at Spruce. The previous two times were excellent in both food and service. This time it was New Year’s Eve, so I realize it would be busier, but the service stood out as disappointing and subpar. In particular, the server was really bad. Not once was my drink refilled, and the server totally forgot that we didn’t get our desserts yet. He came out and asked our table as well as the table next to us if there was anything else we needed. I was stunned he was about to drop off the check. Surprised, I looked at him and told him we were still waiting for the dessert course. The server then told us that he thought we already got it. Shortly afterwards, the table next to us and our table both got desserts. The table next to us even commented that the waiter was really bad. For the $563.00 we paid for New Year’s dinner for two people the service was truly mediocre. Hopefully, when we come back for Valentine’s we can get a different server because he really was awful. The table we got was bad as well since every time the door opened a super cold draft would come in. The aisle had people going by our table constantly and everyone kept knocking my chair or hitting it as they walked by all night. This was not a pleasant evening.
The food was not as good as when i came in the fall. I dont know if its because of the prix fixe nye dinner. But would not come back again for the prix fixe. The service was good. Ambience is preferred without the festive nye balloons which made the restaurant look cheap. When the original wood and sleek furniture make the ambience more enjoyable.
The duck confit was salty as well as the halibut. The food didn’t have the infusion of flavors that it typically does at Spruce. The bread was served warm and then it was served cold, attention to detail wasn’t at the level in general that we have experienced in the past. Tortellini was served cold when it should’ve been hot. The restaurant seemed a bit short staffed from our past experiences.
Had an outstanding lunch at Spruce. Great food, wine, and service.
We had an amazing experience at Spruce for dinner on our wedding night!! All of the courses were delicious, as well as the warm bread before our meal. All of the staff were so nice and helpful when explaining the menu and did a great job taking our photos throughout our dinner. They even gave us champagne, a congratulations card and slice of cake, and a vase to keep our wedding bouquet on the table next to ours. We would love to come back on a future special occasion!
Spruce is our favorite restaurant to go to for a celebration or a perfect night out. When it is just me and my partner spruce makes a quiet date night just plain special and memorable. When we bring friends and family it’s a raucous, fun time had by all with out of this world food.
Had another terrific experience at Spruce. Staff was fantastic, the food was great, and the ambience was chic yet refined. Highly recommend it for any special occasion as my wife and I were.
The halibut was delicious, tender, moist and tasty.. The sommelier was outstandingly helpful. A disappointment was the the desert. We ordered apple pie. It was not a pie at all. It was several pieces of baked apple laid decoratively on a plate. The menu should not have called it a pie. Misdescriptive.
Food was incredible, I went with my husband and every plate we had was delicious, they even made a custom made plate for me (truffle pasta) and was great! Service was extremely good… a little bit expensive but it was worth every single cent… I definitely recommend this restaurant
We had a wonderful time there celebrating my birthday. Great food & staff. Highly recommend this restaurant
The reason for 4 stars was that the dessert beignets were dry the size if sugar coated donut holes and nothing like real beignets. They were a real disappointment.
A beautiful place for lunch with friends or a special occasion--
Wonderful dining experience and all our servers were so attentive. Food was excellent!
Came for Christmas Eve dinner. The wine pairing and cauliflower soup were that stars of the show!
