Incredible experience with the best service and staff in SF
Boyfriends parents in town. Incredible food, service and atmosphere. Would recommend for any special occasion!
The food was great and staff was lovely but we made a reservation that indicated it was a birthday and there was no acknowledgement that it was a birthday so I was a bit disappointed since I was taking my boyfriend out to his first Michelin star restaurant.
Amazing ambiance, tasteful food. It took almost 20 minutes for the waiter to introduce himself and start helping us.
Thank you for the review. We appreciate the feedback. We hope to see you return soon. -Spruce
Very nice place with good food in tiny quantities. Some dishes were like food samples. We are used to gourmet restaurants, this was extremely scarce. Expensive wines, we could not believe the bill! With added 20% service and CA taxes it was shockingly expensive
Excellent service from the wait staff

Excellent ingredients, wonderful technique, outstanding service. The wine list is world class.
Christopher, Thank you for the great review! We hope to see you soon again. -Spruce
Love Spruce. Outstanding service and the meals have been consistently delicious. Appreciate the outdoor experience as well.

Our meal at Spruce is best described as memorable. The fresh corn cappalleti is one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. It was filled with bursts of contrasting flavors and textures that as a whole, came together beautifully. My wife and I both left wanting more. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience.
Pleasant Presidio Heights dining, with outside option. Very attentive and friendly service. Food is very good and quite expensive.

Special occasion of friend from out of country
Service impeccable and enjoyable. Food, some of the best ever!
The ambience is energetic and welcoming! Clean, modern, delicious sophisticated food. Everything was delicious!
Professional experience. Great and calculated. Very good experience
Outstanding food and service
Amazing staff, probably the best wine list in SF
The menu at Spruce needs to be reworked. Apparently, the restaurant is attempting to recoup lost revenues quickly. This will not work out well. The food is way overpriced and underwhelming.
Brunch for 4 cost over $500 for very paltry plates of unmemorable food.
It is a pity because Spruce was an excellent restaurant before.
My husband and I dined Al Fresco in the lovely Spruce Parklet (may just be the prettiest Parklet in SF). We had a spectacular pre-fixed dinner, the service by Patrick and Courtney was impeccable, and Katherine, the Sommelier recommended a fabulous Puligny-Montrachet that was to die for. Truly great evening - can't wait to return.
I was disappointed in the chicken salad. It was about as good as a fried chicken cutlet could be but I did not expect that for chicken salad - so disappointed in that.
Pre fix menu is a great value for such high quality food and service!
Wonderful luncheon celebrating a special birthday. Nora best waitress imaginable. Food perfect and so unique. Wines superb. Had outdoor seating set up in very sophisticated way. No street noise.
Hadn't been to the Spruce in over 10 years! The famed burger was overcooked (had requested medium rare and got well), but still somewhat delicious. The English muffin bun aspect doesn't add much, unless you can properly toast it. As it was, I would've preferred a regular sesame/Kaiser/brioche bun. Friend's crispy chicken breast in her salad was dry. The vegetables were phenomenal though and I noticed that she only left pieces of chicken uneaten. The fries w my burger were great (esp w the aioli for the burger) and my friends added a side order as dessert. Other friend liked her pastrami sandwich and sauerkraut. We did share an enjoyable summer corn cappelletti pasta with chanterelles. The best of the meal were the drinks -- East Side and a most ruby-grapefruit-y greyhound. Also a nerello mascalese rose and carricante tascante from the Etna region -- appreciated the selection. Service was fantastic, both the hostess and the waiter -- attentive and on point without being hovering too much.
This was our favorite meal of our trip! From start to finish this was a phenomenal experience worthy of a second star! We loved the cocktails, had the Pomarosa and the Greyhound's Tooth. Also got to speak at length with one of the sommeliers and had a nice Sancerre and a fantastic Pinot Noir from France. We had a Corn Veloute' and Cappeletti pasta, then Foie Gras Terrine, then tagliatelle with truffles and finally spaghetti with lobster and muscovy duck with a stone fruit gastrique. Topped it off with beignets and a tri colored cake with raspberries and the meal was perfect! We loved the evening and hope to go back soon.....thanks!
The food is as good as Gary Danko, but the ambiance is more relaxed and inviting. If looking for upscale dining in an enjoyable environment, I highly recommend it.
Very creative menu for brunch. All five of us thought we had been treated to something special.
We had an amazing time at Spruce! Our waiter was friendly, helpful, attentive, gave some excellent suggestions on drinks, and helped guide us through the pre-fix brunch menu. My husband and I both loved what we ordered, appreciated the upscale yet unpretentious atmosphere, and vowed to make this spot part of our regular stops anytime we are in the city.
Spruce continues to exceed expectations. We had a phenomenal experience and our waiter Noah was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful.
Absolutely delicious meal, from the first course heirloom melon salad, so sweet it could have been desert, and scallop crudo -- to the delectable Maine lobster spaghetti and the Muscovy duck breast. Excellent service. Everyone must show proof of vaccination so the atmosphere was relaxed with a great bar scene (and menu).
Great meal and outstanding service!!! One of my favorite Bay Area restaurants
First time at Spruce and it was amazing! We had high expectations being that they are a 1-Michelin Star restaurant. We came on a Wednesday night with a reservation and were seated immediately. My only constructive comment is that after being seated it was some time before the waiter brought us menus and even longer until they took our order. But after ordering the food came very quick and the waiter was attentive to explaining the dishes and making it an overall pleasant experience. 9.5/10.0 experience.
Would recommend to anyone wanting a fine dining experience at a reasonable price. Food was incredible, service was quick and efficient, and the cost was less than normal for a Michelin starred restaurant.
Very nice to eat in a sophisticated place, with good food service again. I few glitches, in our opinion -
They seated us at a table right by the curtain the wait staff uses to serve the people eating outside, so very breezy and chilly at times. However, they were very gracious to move us to a more preferable table.
When I ordered a glass of chardonnay our waitress gave me two choices, which turned out to be two with the highest price point. The one I picked was $38/glass. If price is important look at their "wine book".
My halibut was very dry - it needed a sauce or something to help make it a little moister.
I had the foie gras as an appetizer - delicious! and the beignets for dessert were very good. Love the atmosphere!
Service was excellent
Food quality was excellent
Ambience was excellent
Location was ideal, safe and clean neighborhood, perfect for a nice walk after dinner.
We went for lunch, and unfortunately the experience fell short of the expected Michelin star meal. The food was salty, tastes did not blend and the duck was dry. Overall our dished were fine for an average meal, but nothing made me think they are Michelin quality.
Had the pre fixe menu for dinner with a friend. Got the supplemental terrine foie gras which was just ok but enjoyed my friend’s scallop. The yuzu vinaigrette accentuated the sweetness of the scallop. We both enjoyed duck breast for our main. Well seasoned and paired real well with the plum. My friend enjoyed her olive oil ice cream while I was less impressed with my devil’s food cake. We enjoyed the night but I expected more from a Michelin restaurant.
I love Spruce and it was SO nice to go back after so long away due to Covid. Everything was incredible - the food was artistic and excellent. The waitstaff were attentive but not hovering. I hadn't told them in advance of my daughter's birthday but they asked if it was a special occasion and brought her out a piece of cake and candle. My daughter ordered a dessert wine which never arrived during our dessert so she cancelled the order. The waiter hadn't explained why it had taken so long but then he brought her a half glass of one of the two options we had requested. There was no charge which was reasonable given the circumstances.
The only thing that caused me to discount the Value is the included gratuity of 20%, which I do not mind at all - it was worthy service. But then being informed at the end that if we wished to add more of a tip we were welcome to. Feeling guilty I was about to add additional tip much to the dismay of my daughter who stopped me, saying 'if they expect you to tip above the 20% then they should just put the 20% into the price'. I know it's a thing nowadays but it is very uncomfortable.
Fantastic food, beautifully presented, with service that is on par with the finest restaurants in the world! We have the prix fixe brunch menu on a early Sunday afternoon and the only area that I would recommend any changes would be the relatively small portion size of the protein. Brunch for 4 with 1 bottle of moderately priced wine was ~$540 so this will not be a weekly event. Outside of that it was outstanding.
This meal brought tears to our eyes. We are celebrating your boyfriend’s birthday and they made it unbelievably special. SIX stars
Came here for brunch and dined indoors. The architecture and ambiance were immaculate I forgot I was in San Francisco. Definitely dress business casual, and go for dress up than down. Portions are huge, did not expect that for a fancy restaurant. We went to celebrate my new job and of course they brought a congratulatory cake.
A couple of words to describe our experience in short: comfort food, excellent service, get the short ribs for brunch!!
