Sorry we spent $100 each on a white truffle shave that we could not even taste! We have done this in the past at other restaurants and have been So pleased with the result

I think it might have been the best meal of our lives. I was expecting a traditional steakhouse experience but was blown away by the unique flavors of each dish. Everything was mouth watering and delicious.

Food and service was good but didn’t get seated until almost half an hour after our reservation. Main course also took ~25 min after our appetizer course. They did comp us with free cocktails which was nice.

We have dined at Spruce many times inthe past. The restaurant wasfestively decorated for the holidays.
There was a prolonged wait for the cocktail orderandthe glasses were small. The appetizer was ok butthey
forgot to offer an amuse guele. When reminded, corredcted that. We both had the duck ($51) which came with a puree of turnips and some grapes. The duck was correctly cooked. We had a half bottle of good Pinot Noir. It was quite dark but we could converse with each other ok. Overall a pricey restaurant with an odd plating of the duck. Used to be better.

Our main server was wonderful as was the sommelier, but the support staff mixed up the orders which is certainly manageable but one expects more from a starred restaurant and those prices. Our Duck dish was fabulous and perfectly cooked. the gnocchi was excellent, with a wonderful rich sauce. the cocktails were also quite good. The little gem salad sounded better than it tasted.

Spruce remains a surprisingly elegant restaurant in an unlikely neighborhood location.

The food was excellent, except for a grisly over cooked confit of duck. The chicken salad my guest had looked spectacular as did the other guests hamburger. So 2 for 3!

The wine list is as good as any high end SF restaurant.

So, it was fun, even though my lunch was not. I’ll try them again-you should too-but maybe skip the duck leg confit!

Disappointed with the baked items “for the table.” I expected a small piece of banana bread and a small scone. Instead we got things the size of a large thimble. Food was excellent though but not a good value. It’s a nice place if you feel money is no object.

Everything was flawless and magical from beginning to end. Our server Marian was a gem along with the rest of the staff. The food was impeccable and everything was delicious; the Kampachi, the duck, the tartare and the salmon to name a few. The somm also did a great job pairing a few bottles to the dishes served. Thank you so much for making the entire party feel special and creating a beautiful experience for us. It was a delightful evening. We will definitely be back soon!

This is definitely a special occasion restaurant. I had never been here before so I did not really know what I was in for. Let me just say that service was outstanding and impeccable but if you just want to read a book while eating your food this may not be quite the right place. :) The food was superb and filling, though it does not look like much on the plate. The presentation of everything as just beautiful.

We had really high expectations leading up to our visit to Spruce. The food was good but nothing special. Our waitress was kind but forgot to bring us our final course that we ordered. It was apparently a miscommunication, she thought we would confirm later if we wanted it. We were honestly not too mad about it though because we were tired and didn’t mind getting to leave earlier than we had planned. Before we left our waitress brought us a complimentary dessert because we told her we were expected our second child. It was such a sweet gesture. We were enjoying the three flavors of ice cream when my husband bit down into a very sharp shard of plastic about the size of a thumb tack. When we told our waitress she apologized and said they would throw out the batch of ice cream but didn’t offer to comp anything. My husband and I didn’t feel comfortable demanding we just assumed it was common courtesy. It was very dangerous and they sort of just shrugged it off. I guess they were lucky we were tired and just wanted to get home but we probably should have put up more of a fuss. When we left our waitress handed us a snickerdoodle cookie...maybe that was our consolation prize.
Overall, we are sad to report that the food was decent and the experience was just not that great.

My favorite place. Our usual birthday dinner spot. The service is always a pleasure. We’ve had the same server the last two times. I think her name is Kate. Just love this place.

Food and drinks were very good. The service was very slow. It took almoat 20 minutes before they serve water, another 15 minutes to take order and 10 more minutes to serve bread. The cocktail I ordered arrives 15 minutes after they open the bottle of wine. It’s a busy restaurant but they really need to improves the service a little. The waiter and everybody were friendly and nice though!

The combination of service and food quality at Spruce was superb and equivalently matched. Our server, Patrick, knows his food stuff. His recommendations were worth following. He did right by us. The highlight was the L'Esturgeonnière - Caviar Perlita. A bit pricy but what in life that's worthwhile is not pricy. My salmon was cooked rare as I requested. The presentations were exquisite. Our two bottles of red wine were decanted as we requested and allowed a rest before serving. The sommelier was totally accommodating.

Some portions could use enlarging... i.e., move veggies (not the potatoes) à coté de the salmon, which was yummy. Coffee, while fabulously freshly-brewed, is never really hot or hot enough.

We had a great experience. It’s spendy, for two of us with cocktails, bottle of wine appetizer and entree s it was over $600 after the tip. But the overall experience was worth it. Our server was attentive, personable and helpful. They have an extensive wine list.

Absolutely excellent dinner. Never felt rushed, or out-of-place (with our stubborn 11-year old boy not wanting their bun...). Expansive wine list; craft cocktails; perfect food. Even satisfied my vegan wife! :)

Expected a whole lot more of this restaurant. The food was okay. Duck confit was so salty that it tasted like a ham hock. Turnips so undercooked they would not cut with a steak knife. Mussels okay, but greatly overpriced and of tremendous size variability with the meat being 1/2 inch to more than two inches long, yet they all seemed to be cooked the same amount of time. One slice of bread each. No more. All served by the busboy, who was very nice, but still. And why are people raving about the hamburger? For all the hype I expected a lot better.

Very attentive and caring service. The food was tasty and delicate. My husband and I are vegan so we had to make some adjustments to the dishes. I was somewhat disappointed not to find any vegan options on the menu, though the restaurant prides itself for sourcing fresh seasonal vegetables from local farms.

Exceptional as always. The duck breast was not only the best duck I have ever had, it was perhaps the best MEAT I have ever had - as good as filet mignon. The mixed drinks were tasty and complicated on my tongue. They have the best (giant) chocolate chip we have ever had. The huckleberry tart was a party in my mouth. Basically, everything we ate and drank was fantastic. The service was exceptional and well-attended to. The only downside was that all the food and drinks (including the wine pours) portions were kind of small, especially for the high price. I know it is a Michelin Star restaurant, so I guess that’s typical.

PS: I don’t like the English muffin on their signature hamburger. What was wrong with the buttery brioche bun? Bring it back!

Despite the not thoroughly cooked parsnips from the Harvest menu lunch, the rest of the meal was tasty and delightful. A beet salad with slight sweetness and the acidity to not make it dull. The main course of nicely cook duck breast, crispy skin and just amount of fat make a great lunch despite the shortcomings of the sides on the plate. Had a personal carafe of coffee with the additional cost of oat milk. Added coconut rice pudding which was fine, more so for the toppings and fresh fruit slices on top.

Overall lovely. Expect to pay over 500.00 for four people. Dishes were beautiful and delicious. Servers were terrific but it is a slow dinner so you need time.
