What Insiders Are Saying
Fancy fine dining, San Francisco style. Bring your elders.
Outstanding food, beautiful surroundings and excellent service. Great for a special occasion.
Very impressive decor. Interesting menu and wine list, patchy quality of food and service.
This is an outstanding establishment in almost every way....
Spruce was an elegant dining experience
In a comfortable but beautiful setting. The food was delicious
and service was professional and helpful.
We enjoyed every moment and every bite.
Wine list is superior. Food excellent. Loved every part.
Perfect - a great setting for a business lunch. Outstanding food, excellent service, and the atmosphere was accommodating for conversation and decision making.
This is absolutely my “go to” restaurant when I want the most perfect experience. So classy.
And you know, I just realized that I didn’t hear a single word from any other table’s conversations (of course I was probably relishing in our own pleasures!). The walls are upholstered in the same mohair fabric as the banquette. Very sound absorbing and beautiful!
The food was fantastic and the ambiance even better!
Fantastic sommelier, attentive service, excellent caviar service.
We felt very unwelcomed! Sometimes you can tell what type of experience you’re going to have by the table to which you’re taken. Although, we were escorted to the only 2 person table in the restaurant, which sat in the dark corner adjacent to the coffee service area, which was only covered by a curtain, and which was fanning back and forth as servers went in and out. I simply asked for a different table and looked forward to a delightful dining experience. However, it was not to be. We sat at the table for close to 20 minutes with no one acknowledging our presence, until I flagged down the Hostess to inquire if there was a Waiter for our table. Someone was there instantly with a lovely smile, but no real explanation for the wait in a restaurant that was not full. Although, full or not there really is no explanation for such an occurrence. At the end of the day, the food was average at best and the experience was very sub-par. Certainly not a place I’d send my friends, family, colleagues, or clients! I usually don’t write reviews, but this was so overt I felt the need to let others know.
Service was exceptional. Food was great - especially the beignets.
A spectacular dinner! Perfect service! Thank you Dan!! Can't wait to go back!!!
Our order was taken and the entrees arrived before the wine and olives. Almost as if we got someone else’s order. The food was lukewarm. When prompted the waitperson followed with the wine getting some on the tablecloth without doing anything to remedy. I complained and our bill was adjusted which was appreciated, however the special holiday lunch fell short. I have been to Spruce many times, including hosting events. Thankfully this is not my typical experience.
We had a great waiter who was incredibly knowledgeable about the food and spirits. Selected an excellent whiskey flight for me. Food was on point and delicious. It was a great dining experience.
We go to this restaurant on special occasions The duck was sensational
Daniel, our waiter, was so very personal & professional. It is a memorable dining experience !
The birthday celebration was special because I requested a nice table for my birthday guest to go with the delicious lunch we enjoyed! The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was excellent! Will definitely return!
Had a birthday lunch and my son was treated like a prince. He loved every bite and the pleasant
exchanges with the kindly servers
I of course consider Spruce one of my favorites!
Many thanks for the fun and the tasty meal.
When the waitress called me darlin’ for the second time I asked her not to do so and in return I would not call her by any pet names. She agreed, telling me she had worked in the South (???) but did not do so again.
I ordered a glass each of wine for the three of us from the Coravin list @$60a Glass. The somm asked me if I was fine with his pouring it away from the table. Please pour it here, I told him. He acted a little irritated but with a Coravin service it SHOULD be poured at the table. It should not be suggested otherwise nor be a problem if a customer disagrees with the request.
They were almost too attentive. Several people would swoop in at once very often. It was a lovely dinner but we felt like they wanted us out of there.
Perfect service, wonderful food. Quiet atmosphere even in a full house. Exquisite all around. I didn’t think places like this even existed any longer! Table cloths and attentive, professional service in addition to a creative menu. I will return!
Had the mussels and 12 of them had not opened but were served anyway. Broth lukewarm and a bit thin. Did not taste any garlic or pernod. Generally just OK.
AMAZING, seriously amazing. I see it has 4 stars on Yelp and I have no clue what those people are eating when they give it 1-3 stars. You can't find that level of food in many cities. A true gem.
I ordered the delicata squash tart but was very disappointed because of the $24 charge for an appetizer. The Paris Brest was also disappointing. The Shell was over baked, and did not resemble a Paris Brest. The chocolate sauce was mostly sugary, rather than chocolatey.
It is rare that I’m unhappy with a meal at Spruce. Just thought I pass my thoughts along.
Amazing. Such great service and the food is out of this world.
Never disappoints! Always makes customers feel comfortable in such a posh setting. The food is always outstanding and beautifully presented. The staff is super friendly & down to earth.
For the price it was no where near the kind of experience it should not of been, average food, corked wine and forgetful servers.
No better place in SF for atmosphere and great food!
The duck was magnificent. We had not been to the restaurant in over a year. The new Chef is outstanding!
Never disappointed at Spruce! Great food, service and atmosphere.
Salmon and Burger were great.
Had a bit of the amazing duck.
Paris Brest was subtle and yet a gorgeous way to end!
Wonderful as always.
The music was poorly chosen, invariably either uninteresting, out of character with the restaurant, or too loud, and it took effort to get the waiter's attention when we ready to leave the restaurant. In most other ways you could hardly fault this restaurant, which certainly has a kind and capable staff that really does try to be gracious and welcoming without being at all intrusive. This is a delightful place, still just a little rough around the edges.
My first time visit. Very classic, food and service was outstanding! I’m definitely going back again.
Always lovely and a perfect spot for a romantic dinner or other special occasion. The ambiance is wonderful. We had a fantastic waiter--knowledgeable, went with the personality of the table--a lot of fun. I had the pumpkin soup--creamy and delicious--and lobster as the main course. Cooked beautifully with gnocchi surrounding the large lobster pieces. Fantastic! Everyone at the table--people who love and appreciate good food--were very happy with their meals! Looking forward to my next visit.
To say outstanding is an understatement. My date and I were amazed by the incredible service and the, somehow, even better food. It's safe to say this is the best dining experience we've ever had.
We enjoyed our meal, the ambiance and the service.
Great, perfect service!
A bit loud ... wonderful food for the most part, my risotto was a little under cooked.
Food was really good, nice mix of artisan meats and vegetables. Interesting plating and flavors. Service was just okay, our waiter talked WAY TOO MUCH and left us unattended and unserviced for too long. It affected his tip to say the least
absolutely outstanding....from decor to ambiance....food to service...wonderful...Ill be back next time in SF
