Spring Mill Cafe Ratings and Reviews
While Spring Mill Cafe was good, it wasn't outstanding. We had the Octopus appetizer which wasn't great. My Scallops special was somewhat bland, as was my wife's Striped Bass. We're big fans of French Country food, but didn't really find it here at Spring Mill.
Service and ambience were excellent. We liked the cozy feel, the decorations, and the overall ambience.
overall review: good, not great.
The location is very quaint. Its inside an old house. Parking can be difficult. The inside was cute and enjoyable. The service wasn't horrible however they forgot my soup... I wasn't charged for it though. But no one said anything or apologized for forgetting it. The bread basket was delicious as was the cheese plate. Eggs Benedict was typical eggs Benedict. The restaurant seemed to get busy and the servers seemed frazzled. I would go back and try again though, def worth trying
We had a lovely corner table in the farmhouse to celebrate our 45th anniversary with our daughters. Service was attentive, but not suffocating- which I really appreciate. We each had a different appetizer and entree. Cheese plate was nice. My daughter enjoyed the pate. Best entree was the rabbit. My filet was a good piece of meat, perfectly cooked. However, the red wine bordelaise was watery and tasteless. Swordfish tasted old and over cooked. Duck cassoulet was just OK. Desserts ordered were the daffodil cake and creme brûlée. Both were disappointing. We had a great evening and loved the atmosphere, but the food was not what I expected.
We have been to the Spring Mill Cafe before and always enjoyed our meal. We had excellent service and very tasty food. We very much enjoy that the cafe is BYO so we can bring our own wine to go with dinner. I thought that the rabbit was especially delicious. Only one caution, don't let them seat you upstairs in the farmhouse building. That room is seriously lacking in ambiance. When the crowd started dissipating downstairs, they gave us a table there and free desserts.
What's old is new again at Spring Mill Cafe! My crab & asparagus salad was a beautiful & delicious winter metaphor....fresh green logs on a plate of snow :) My wife had the Moroccan shrimp appetizer, which is done with sweet potatoes, cumin & toasted almonds and is absolutely fantastic! Our main courses were both wonderful & clever twists on old staples. Although not vegetarian, we love rich and flavorful vegetarian dishes. For my wife, the mushroom bourguignon was irresistible. I had the rabbit, done this year (for the first time in my memory) with a prune tapenade plus mushrooms & potatoes in a red wine sauce. With a little ice cream for dessert, we left in our usual post-Spring Mill state of bliss. Although full to the gills, everything just happens as it should thanks to an owner and staff who simply get everything right!
My husband and I celebrated our tenth anniversary at Spring Mill Cafe. We live in Conshy but had never been there! Parking isn’t the best but once you’re inside it’s like you’ve been transported to a farmhouse in the French countryside. It’s small but cozy, not cramped. And quiet! The food was excellent - filet done perfectly and swordfish that melts in your mouth. Our meal was spaced out over a couple of hours, which is the pace I prefer for a night out and a good meal; it’s so much better than the typical rushed atmosphere in most places. I will definitely be returning!!
Client lunch. To start: Chicken liver pate & cheese plate (3 cheeses) with almonds, honey, & quince paste, both of which were excellent. Mains: Mushroom Bourguignon and a Moroccan shrimp salad, both superb. Service was friendly, knowledgeable & attentive without being obtrusive. Excellent value.
We were a party of five for an early “cold winter” Sunday dinner. One guest was a vegan and the restaurant accommodated her with a delicious entre. I had the sword fish with a light caper funnel butter sauce that I thoroughly enjoyed. My wife and two of our guests had the special Hamachi fish entre. All said it was cooked to perfection that they also thoroughly enjoyed. For desert, two of us had the “almost flourless” chocolate cake. The others guests had the daffodil cake, a light angel food cake. No one left a crumb on their desert plate.
There are no complaints with any of our dinner selections. Our complements to the chef! We shall return. A big plus for us in the restaurant’s BYOB policy. We always bring a bottle of a California chardonnay that our daughter introduced to us. The wine was from the winery of her business associate who owned a vineyard in Sonoma.
Quaint restaurant with delicious food choices. Server was very attentive. Atmosphere was pleasant . Everything we tried was served hot and with good timing. I would recommend this cute spot to anyone looking for a quiet lunch or dinner with good food and service.
Always enjoy this French restaurant. In a rural setting that makes you feel like you could be in the French countryside. The food is very good. My favorite is the lamb chops and the pate. It is BYO, which reduces the cost somewhat, though it is moderate in price.
We loved the environment, the friendliness of the staff and the warmth of the restaurant. We were a bit disappointed in the NYE food. The cheese plate and dessert were highlights and fabulous. The lobster bisque was delicious but no lobster. The room temperature duck should have been warm. It felt like wedding style service where it was pre-prepped. The swordfish said saffron and capers on the menu, but was served with a dill butter instead. Additionally, we had to pour our own wine every time with included 20% gratuity. Overall, the $90 prix fixe was way too high of a price for what was delivered.
This was my 4th visit to Spring Mill Cafe and it continues to impress. My GF and I asked my brother and sister-in-law to join us for a pre-holiday get together. It was their first time there. We all enjoyed our appetizers, entrees and desserts. All were very tasty, complex and appropriate in size. Combined with the warm ambiance and friendly service, this was a wonderful evening out with family. Thank for Spring Mill Cafe!
