Such a charming place! The service is terrific. The food is solid: very filling, delicious flavors, and good portions.
We love this place....but this visit was flawed by less than attentive service....ni bread was brought to the table...no inquires were made about was everything until the very end...not what I would expect from Spring Mill....we will think long and hard about returning....not as special as in the past......
Nice country atmosphere and the food is good. We sat on the patio on a perfect spring evening (inside can be quite noisy). There was a private party in the barn the night we were there and, because it was a Friday, the inside was full, so the service was pretty slow (2 1/2 hours from arrival to departure). The pate and cheeses are first rate, they get local ingredients, and the chef does a very nice job with the food
We sat outside as it was such a beautiful evening which is really too noisy and exposed with regard to passing traffic. A deck towards the stream would be really nice away from the road! The food was terrific and the service very good. Next time we sit inside!
Had a truly lovely meal with two friends. Our server Nathan was so knowledgeable and attentive, he even made an on-the-fly dessert for my friend who has a dairy intolerance. We started with the beet salad and cheese plate, which we all loved. I had the eggplant tagine which was savory and delicious, the harissa adding just the right amount of heat. Both of my friends had the cod which looked beautiful on the plate, but not for long, their plates were quickly licked clean. For dessert my friend had the orange cake, which she liked so much she had wrapped so she could eat it for breakfast. I had the most perfect little fruit tart. We had so much fun, we closed the restaurant.
A real hidden gem. We saved it for a special night (our anniversary) and the payoff was worthwhile and then some. We'll be back. Food and service were too notch. The interior was fantastic, and even the view out the window was delightfully plastic-free. You could almost fool yourself that you were someolace far away. Fantastic overall and in every detail.
Spring Mill Cafe is a neighborhood gem. The food is delicious, the service impeccable and the ambiance is charming. We have had brunch, lunch and dinners there and thoroughly enjoyed every meal.
The food, the service and the attention to the needs of its diners is simply outstanding. It’s almost as if the staff (and, on this occasion, the valet parkers) considered us to be family in the way were treated.
Thought the food was a bit over-priced, but it wouldn't keep me from going back. Sauces were lovely. The wait staff were very attentive and as were the parking valets who made us feel very welcomed and cared for. I think cushions should be added to the the dining chairs. It's hard to have a relaxing meal when your butt starts hurting in the middle of the main course.
This legendary French restaurant in a beautiful little farm house has totally revamped and up their game. The ingredients are local and while there are classic dishes, most have a new twist which takes them to a new level. For example escargots on a bed of buttery soft polenta. The service is attentive and friendly, and since it is BYOB, it's a bargain! There's a porch and patio as well and a beautiful garden when the weather is good. A great escape from the city!
Food was not as good as usual. My meal was very over salted!
Always enjoy the Spring Mill Cafe, though this was the first time in a long time that we went for brunch. The atmosphere is delightful, our waitress was enchanting and fun as well as helpful in making our food choices. I always feel like I could be in the French countryside when I drive up to the restaurant.
The cafe keeps its unique features of food and ambience
Come for romantic dinner or anniversary
Waiters and owner Ezra are wonderful
We sat outside in the porch next to the street.
A perfect meal at our favorite restaurant. The chicken liver pâté was creamy, rich and decadent. My wife’s beet salad was fresh and light. For main course I had the perfectly cooked spring lamb, and my wife loved her Mushroom Bourguignon. We shared a delicious chocolate mousse to finish. Always a treat. Thanks
The food leaves a lot to be desired. When there are so many great restaurants in the area, it is disappointing to have a meal that you could cook better yourself. Whatever you do, do not get the coconut creme brûlée. It resembles microwaved wallpaper paste flavored with coconut and does not have a sugar crust.
We loved it. The food is healthy and delicious. We will be returning.
Very good experience. The only thing better than the food is the service.
My husband and I wanted a quiet dinner out with good food. I started with the escargot. They were well prepared, but the brioche that they were served over was stale. I thought the dish would be better with pine nuts rather than cashews. My husband had the special tomato soup with crab. It was bland. We both had the lamb chop special. It was well prepared and delicious. We just returned from a vacation abroad and noted that the servers don’t continually interrupt our meal to ask about the food. I found it refreshing. I found it annoying how many times our server interrupted our conversation. It’s a small room so I heard that same question over and over again though out the evening. Most annoying. My husband enjoyed the orange cake and I enjoyed the lemon sorbet to conclude the meal.
Beautiful atmosphere, superb service, delicious food
It was our anniversary and second trip to Spring Mill, everything was amazing. It was a Wednesday so not too busy, we got to chose our seat which was nice since we chose the corner table that gives so much privacy. It was their Moroccan night and I loved that they gave the option to have your dish spicy or not, especially since I personally can’t handle a lot of heat. Our server was super informed and offered her recommendations when asked her option between dishes. Thank you Spring Mill, we cant wait come back.
Spring Mill can not be beaten when you need a moment to relax and enjoy and step out of place and time of your hurried east coast life. A little piece of the old world close to home.
We love to go to Spring Mill Café for Easter Brunch. We are never disappointed. The food was delicious. We had the plateau of cheeses, leek soup, lamb chops, banana pain perdu and cassoulet. There was also some very tasty desserts. And of course, being a BYOB is a plus. Our waitress was charming and attentive. The ambiance in the farm house is very special and always reminds me of my birthplace in Burgundy, France.
Wonderful Easter brunch. Charming decor, delicious food, good service. Only complaint is we had to keep asking for coffee refills. We were in the farmhouse, which I prefer to main house as it's not so cramped. Very nice experience. Will definitely return.
Excellent food, wonderful service!!!
Wonderful French restaurant nestled in the Philadelphia suburbs. Great for a date night or small groups. A small, but high-quality menu that is full of interesting dishes.
Unfortunately I have eaten at Spring Mill Cafe for years under the original owner and this chef and crew just doesn't have the same talent. Food was good but not great. It always was great before. I still think it is a cute and romantic place to go, but would not rank it high as far as culinary inspiration. Sorry to say.
Went for lunch. Quiet. Great French food! Had trout almondine. Done perfectly. Great quaint, and somewhat unknown place in an historic home.
Spring Mill Café is a small gourmet restaurant bringing French cuisine to the area. The interior is sitting very few tables so reservations are a must, but once the weather turns they have outside seating to accommodate more people. The menu changes but it's always delicious. Save space for desert.
And it's BYOB which the experience even more affordable.
What a hidden gem. It is like going into your grandmother’s house. Rustic yet refined. The staff very friendly and accommodating. And the food-delicious! I’ve driven by many times and didn’t even realize it was a restaurant. This was my first visit but it certainly won’t be my last.
It was good food and pleasant.
As wonderful as Spring Mill Cafe is for everyday dining, the special meals are really extra special. The themed prix fixe this time around was Moroccan, starting with a generous plate of classic Moroccan shrimp. We think we tasted cumin, turmeric, cayenne, coriander, paprika, lemon, and maybe a bit of ginger in various bites - it was delicious! The main course was Moroccan striped bass, beautifully done and almost naked so we could appreciate its delightful taste and rich, meaty texture. And dessert (which we rarely eat but loved this time around) was a Moroccan cake with vanilla ice cream (yes, vanilla is really a flavor!) and candied orange peel. SMC has always brought a Moroccan twist to something on the menu, thanks to Michele Haines’ loves and influence as the founding owner, executive chef, and culinary / cultural guidance counselor to so many of us. This meal was a worthwhile tribute to her efforts!
We look forward to the next themed SMC meal, and will happily enjoy the regular menu between now and then. We suggest you do the same.
We loved our server. She was charming, knowledgeable, attentive, and so welcoming. The food as always was superb as was the service. It was quite noisy and was difficult for a conversation among all of us. We could converse side by side but not as a foursome. We came at 7pm on a Wednesday. Perhaps we should have made an earlier reservation. I would return without hesitation.
Waitress with an attitude. Music and loud kitchen made it hard to hear. Chef not accommodating. Asked for tomato’s in our omelette and they told us that they cat add ingredients just take away ingredients. Service was less than stellar.
As usual, such a sweet place to enjoy brunch- the service was really on point. We are having a bridal shower here soon and Spring Mill has been very helpful with our planning. I highly recommend for brunch, dinner or a party!
Disappointed on a beautiful spring evening. The escargot and pate sampler starters were both very enjoyable however the pate was served in 45 minutes, the escargot came another 20 minutes later. We were told that dish went to the wrong table. It happens no problem however it was another 45 minutes until our entrees were served. The rabbit saddle was over cooked rendering it very dry, the leg portions were moist but tough. My deconstructed cassoulet was well seasoned however the perfectly cooked rare duck breast was difficult to chew ruining the dish. The side of brussels sprouts was average fare. We finished with an excellent cappuccino.
UPDATE:: Ezra is the best! 15 minutes after posting I received a call from him! He promised to (make sure the staff understood to inform him if there were issues of any kind) and to make things right for us on our next visit! In honesty, I should have uncountable VERY POSITIVE ratings for Spring Mill cafe for their excellence in service over the past 15 years that we have been patrons!!
Sometimes it all comes down to timing . . . We had a waitress that seemed to be "learning the ropes". We arrived on time for a 7pm reservation. We were seated quickly, given menus and offered water as normal. After agreeing to lemon with the water, it never came. No problem. We reminded her about the lemon and she made an excuse that it was "just so busy with everyone coming in at the same time". She used this same excuse for the mix-up in appetizers. And one other time . . . It nearly got to the point that I thought we should ask if there was a better time that we could return that would be more convenient for her . . . We will come back again . . . hopefully at a more convenient time!
As per the update above, we are, as usual, looking forward to our next visit!!
Had a Delicious vegan option-Mushroom Bourguignon. Charming country french atmosphere.
What a special place! Our meal and service were excellent.
Excellent Food, Outstanding Service! I always love going to BYOB's that have excellent service and Ethan was Amazing, my wine glass was never empty, which is always a plus! would definitely go there again.
