A charming restaurant with excellent food.
This is too much pressure -- you wouldn't let me go with 45 characters???? Enough already.
Excellent food and service as always.
We enjoyed ourselves very much. The weather outside was terrible; but the meal made the so pleasant.
The temperature outside grazed 50F, so we ventured out for dinner! We'll spare you the superlatives - everything was wonderful (as usual here). It's also great value, especially under the current circumstances. No short cuts are in evidence - everything from food & service to cleanliness & care are solidly there.
We started with our usual chicken liver pâté while we considered the menu. My wife had the special mushroom salad, which was beautiful and delicious - mixed 'shrooms well dressed on fresh greens. I had the daily soup, which was a smooth & rich ginger carrot. She had the fish special, a clever prep & presentation of monkfish cut perpendicular to the bone in the manner of osso buco (also a common approach to swordfish) served on risotto. I had the pork chop au poivre, a generous and juicy treat on a base of halved small potatoes. We even had separate desserts (macaron and Montmorency), which is a true rarity for us - but this meal deserved it. Excellence persists!
Spring Mill is a small gem. The food is always delicious and the service impeccable. They are well set up for feeling comfortable during Covid. Can't wait to go back!
Always a pleasure to return. Food and service is consistent. Peter the charming host makes you feel right at home.
I love this place! It’s the best!
Food was excellent. The facility was safely spaced. The service and staff, especially Christine were 5 STAR!
We wish we lived closer to this little gem so we could go more often. We had the inside of the restaurant to our selves when we celebrated our Valentine’s Day on the 16th (not 14th). It was perfect!
expected a better salad, it was too simple.
I asked for a well-done fillet, but it was pink inside,
an illustrated menu of dessert can help
after paying 70 for each of us, tea and coffee is better to be on the house,
service was not as efficient as it should be.
Always very Happy with the service and the ambience. The Valentines menu was very good. I have had great dinners here before, and we will be back.
It was my wife and I first time eating here. We enjoyed the food and staff who provided great service for our Valentine’s Day diner. We will be back!
A beautiful Valentine Dinner. A wonderful, romantic experience
It was a cold night and the picturesque barn was a little too cold for comfort. That said, the environment was the best part. Quite an expensive Valentine’s Day Prix Fix menu didn’t live up to expectations. Fried oyster was cold, cheese plate was minuscule, endive salad was wet and fish entree seemed to have sat under the warmers for too long. We had a good time but this restaurant, which was one of my favorites, could have been better. 😔
It was a little chilly on the porch despite the heaters, but the food and service was great.
Enjoyed a wonderful dinner on their covered porch with space heater in the middle of February.
So cute! Love the atmosphere. The food & service were amazing
Spring Mill Cafe never disappoints. It is my go-to favorite for ambience, consistently good french food, and a wonderful experience. The owner and staff are friendly, accommodating, and warm human beings that makes every visit enjoyable. The pate sampler and the escargot are a must.
The quail was quite under-seasoned but the duck cassoulet was very nice. Filet mignon was good. The dandelion cake was fluffy, unique and delightful. Solidly good, I wish I could say it was amazing, maybe our next meal will be.
Wow, Wow, Wow, what a gem ! Rare country french find. Am I back in Centre? True country French spot, very intimate and friendly, the tagine is incredible.
The food was outstanding!
Service was great, had a table on the porch. Food was delicious. Will be returning.
My girlfriend is from Normandy, and this is her favorite place- reminds her of the French countryside cuisine. Great quality food and service.
Amazing!!!! One of my Best meals ever!! Service was excellent!!! Even out In The cold we had a great dinner!!!
Great experience! All staff were properly masked, gloved, very friendly and helpful. We had the cheese plate, both specials - braised rabbit over pappardelle and halibut over risotto with a fennel pesto - and daffodil cake to finish. All of the food was exceptional! A lovely, intimate meal, highly recommend. And the restaurant has such a wonderful history, too.
Wonderful experience!
We decided to eat out because the temperature was a balmy 44 (!) and we needed a boost. Between the hearty winter fare and the patio heater, we truly enjoyed another wonderful Sunday afternoon at SMC. The squash soup was rich and full of "autumnal notes" by description, which meant a wonderful cinnamon-clove style slightly sweet spiciness to complement the warming sensation it gave us.
On the way there, my wife lamented not being able to have beef bourguignon because she was really in the mood for it - but we didn't ever remember seeing it on a Sunday afternoon menu there. To our amazement, it was a special that she thoroughly enjoyed! I had the classic SMC winter prep of rabbit ( in a mustard sauce served on thick noodles) and loved it as much as I always do. With a plate of macarons and a truly world class "pinwheel" pastry made in house, we finished off in sheer delight and went home feeling renewed.
We have always loved Spring Mill Cafe. The food and the ambiance are superb. We were excited to get back there after all the restrictions. The service was wonderful and the service was appropriately distant. You cannot get a bad dinner at this restaurant.
I want to like this place desperately. We have been here a number of times, and have been ordering takeout meals since the pandemic started. The issue is that every time we have dined at the restaurant we have left with mixed feelings, one of us liked their dish and the other did not. I'm not sure how to quantify this but we have ordered different things every time we are there. This most recent I loved my short rib, but my wife ended up giving most of her halibut to our cats. I don't understand why the inconsistency, I had a terrible cassoulet one visit, but it was really good another time. I'd recommend dining her but be cautious.
We always enjoy our meal at the Spring Mill Cafe. The food, service and atmosphere are excellent.
We love Spring Mill Cafe!! Everything is perfect every time. The food is consistently amazing. The servers are friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is romantic, warm, and cozy. It always feels special.
Great food, great service.
The food was amazing! I just wish the points were applied to Open Table!
The food was delicious and first-rate, as always. The atmosphere was lovely, sitting on the front porch due to the pandemic. The service was spectacular. Our waitress was knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant under normal circumstances. Given the pandemic and the lengths they are taking to provide a safe, comfortable, and delightful environment, I recommend it even more.
Delicious Sunday brunch in tented outdoor patio with heat lamps.
I have reviewed this restaurant multiple times because it is one of our favorite places to fine. The staff is friendly, helpful and remember you after just 1 or 2 visits. The food is always prepared excellently, of the highest quality and properly cook and seasoned. While it is not an inexpensive restaurant the value is there and we will keep going back and bringing friends who never knew it existed but now return on their own.
Great place to have dinner. Now that you can do outdoor dinning they have tents with heaters.
We keep returning because there's simply nowhere else we can go to get Spring Mill Cafe's uniquely wonderful blend of food, style, comfort, fun, and an overall sense of well being. Thankfully, we got in one more Sunday afternoon meal on the patio before winter blew into town. We took friends who'd never been there before, and it only took a few minutes for them to become fans. The prix fixe Sunday brunch menu had something for each of us. The beet salad with latkes was a wonderful surprise for Hanukah, and the cheese plate delighted our guests. I enjoyed the kale salad before our entrees (burger, fish, skillet, and tartine - all fantastic). Each couple even had a flourless chocolate cake with cherries (Montmorency - a SMC classic), which none of us usually does - and we had no regrets!
We always love Spring Mill and they have done a wonderful job setting up outside. Our brunch meals were fantastic! We were able to relax on the farmhouse porch during this crazy time knowing and seeing with our own eyes they were taking every precaution possible. We happened to be there on a warmer day so the plentiful heat lamps were not needed. I'd definitely go back and eat outside any time of day.
Incredible food and outdoor dining experience makes you forget that it is difficult times for most people during the pandemic. I would recommend to everyone as they did not miss a beat. Highly recommend octopus and fish.
