The best thing about this bar is the view; i found the drinks over priced and the service lacked any kind of personal service and that we were being rushed on our Valentine’s special dinner. Despite noting I was gluten free on the booking they couldn’t even offer an ice cream or sorbet as a simple alternative to the set dessert. Disappointing.

Amazing views of the city ! Ambiance was spectacular for sweet conversations - definitely made for a special evening . The service was marginal and out waitress was inattentive and seemed to be bothered when we asked even just to have our water refilled . We had prepaid for the valentines dinner so I guess the tip had already been calculated so she had no motivation to attend to our table . We still enjoyed the night .

Tourist trap. Can’t enjoy the view. Food was some of the worst I’ve had, drinks were terrible and service was some of the worst I’ve received in NYC after living here for 10 years.

The famous Rainbow Room is only open to the general public a few times each year. This December it was open for holiday brunches on the 3 Sundays before Xmas. The view and ambiance are hard to beat, and the food was very, very good. As an all-you-can-eat, self-serve brunch, with a very good selection of very good food, it's hard not to overeat.

But it's pricey. We spent over $400 for two people, including the standard fixed price + a bottle of champagne. Also the pricing is confusing. The web site says $125 per person exclusive of tax & gratuity. But the actual amount charged is over $160 pp, a big chunk of which is a "service charge." I have no idea if this includes a gratuity or not. The reservation process may have been clear about this, but that was weeks before we went to brunch, and I couldn't remember. The maitre d' didn't even know what the story is. So we weren't sure what to do.

My biggest gripe about the meal itself is that the menu said roast goose was one of the main dishes being served, but the server said there was no goose today. I was really looking forward to it.

Also, unless you get to the meat-entree station when an item was just brought out, what you get is likely to be cold. (Or, in the case of roast goose, nonexistent.) I wish they had either a way to reheat items or to be notified when something hot has just come out.

My biggest concern was that reservations are spaced about 30 minutes apart, and I was afraid they'd hurry us to finish and free up the table. This concern was completely unwarranted. The meal was unhurried and quite memorable, albeit sans goose.

My advice to anyone contemplating this is by all means do it, if you can afford it. But be selective. There's lots of great food, but there's some pretty mundane stuff mixed in. I found this to be particularly true about the desert station: some gems were mixed in with holiday logs and cakes one can get at a supermarket. So since there's so much food, be highly selective.

We were seated 45 minutes after our reservation. By the time we were seated much of food had been out for a while and was picked over. Dim sum wrappers were hard and cold.
When we got to the desert only a very few item were left and not being replenished.
The wait staff/servers was/were very conscientious offering us champagne for our wait and trying to retrieve some deserts for us. They were very kind, attentive and pleasant - unlike the hostess who didn’t seem to mind at all that we were kept waiting.
When paying over $150/person for a brunch this is not what I’d expect.
Very poor showing for the beautiful iconic Rainbow Room.

Not the Rainbow Room of yesteryear, for sure. Although the instructions from the restaurant were to arrive early to secure your seating time, we waited at least 40 minutes before our table was ready and were some of the lucky ones. A party of three checked in before us and I saw them seated 20 minutes after we were. The food was mediocre at best with the dessert buffet not replenished in a timely manner, missing about 30% of the items. Being a pescatarian, the only options offered were smoked fish and shellfish. The service was terrible and we were not even offered champagne to compensate for our wait as others were. I had to ask one of the managers to remove our used plates. All and all, it was quite a disappointment. Having eaten at the Rainbow Room many times when it was open to the public the difference was striking. For over $150 a person before alcohol, it should have been a lot better. The space is still special, there is potential, but it needs work.

I was shocked at how poor the food was at the Rainbow Room for brunch. I took my mother - she is 84 and wanted to remember the days when she used to dance in the Rainbow Room. She was very disappointed. The food was not good. At all -- the chicken pot pie was cold. The oysters not fresh. The nut roast overcooked. The beef wellington, though cooked medium rare, had soggy pastry. I'm struggling to find positives. If the charge were $50 then it would have been passable. But at what we were charged? Extortionate for really poor food.

In addition, the room was not decorated particularly festively. Sure a few "wrapped" presents but there was little colour and it felt bland and unattended.

The ONLY highlight was Santa. He was good.

Upon reflection, I'd like a partial refund for such a disappointing experience.

The staff is extremely pretentious. I paid $162 to dine and would like to have an elegant experience, not feel like some annoying tourist. Especially because I'm a local. Our reservation was delayed 30 minutes and we only got sat when I finally bypassed the first hostess to go into the dining room and see over 15 tables empty. I presume they were "delayed" so I would spend more money in the bar? Which also was deceitful that tip was included on the champagne however the receipt didn't say that. Just had a "tip" line on the signature page. Food was nice and the view was great but every employee (except our server) we encountered didn't seem to care one bit about us having an elegant holiday experience. Our server was so sweet but that wasn't enough to encounter how arrogant everyone else was.

Other than the room being chilly, which we ended up requesting to relocate, the Hostess did move us right away. Food was excellent as in past brunches there. Which I wish they would have on a consistent basis.

The food, waiter service and view were all great. The check in process was horrible. We had the first seating which was suppose to have started at 10:30 am. We did not arrive to our table until 10:50 am. The staff seemed very disorganized and did not apologize for the extended wait.

This is my second time to the Rainbow Room for Christmas brunch. The food is very good. It is a beautiful location and an iconic place to visit. Santa Claus was beautiful and visited each table. However, everything seemed scaled back this year. The food selection was less than last time. The huge beautiful flower arrangement in the center of the room was replaced by wrapped gifts. The wonderful 40's band and singer were not present. We were the first seating at 10:30am. We all arrived early as described in our emails at 10am. We had to call twice before a host showed up to be able to send us up the elevator to the Rainbow Room. When we exited the elevator after 10:30am, the hostess suggested we look out the windows since we were "early". Many of us were frustrated that the 2 hour experience would be shortened due to the restaurants delay.
