My husband and I came here for our first anniversary and this is my third time here and the service is always amazing and the food is even better!!! We have the most amazing food every dish was perfect! Can’t wait to come back again and again!!
Really good and tasty
Interior is romantic
I recommend it
Great Food; We had the octopus and the sformato appetizers, the abalone, mezzaluna, canadeleri, and sea urchin pastas, and the pork chop. Everything was superb and flavors were amazing. The sformato, canadeleri, and pork chop were particular favorites. Great service with extremely knowledgeable waiter. Definitely worth a visit
We had a delightful dinner at SPQR. The food was really good and very creative and we thought the service was incredible. Too often, we've been turned off by smug or meh treatment and I feel at this level service is equal if not more important than the food. It's so nice to be greeted by the host and having him be concerned that our table isn't ready and provided complimentary prosecco! He was so on top of it and proactively dealt with it. We had no complaints. We ended up seated, by accident, next to friends we had not seen in a while. The pasta selections were magical. We tried the sea urchin dish, the bolognese special and the raviolo. Wine pairings were excellent. The space is small, but we didn't feel like we were on top of each other. I hope to go back soon.
Food was very disappointing. The pastas were underwhelming and surprisingly unimaginative. Haven’t been to SPQR in a few years but used to love it. The kitchen need a refresher. Wine list and service were great.
Great lunch with tasting menu made available. Full portions were quite large. Lovely environment.
Great food and super tight wine list. More on the expensive side.
While to taste of the food was outstanding, our pasta dishes where cold. We have dined
here several times and this is the second time we experienced cold dishes. Unfortunately we were attending a performance and thus where short on time, or we would have sent
the food back to the kitchen. Service was also rather slow.
Food was overpriced. Server rushed us
Great experience all around
Food is incredible. Space is crowded and lively. One of my favorite Italian restaurants in the city
love the room size, perfect hostess and server...our friends from Portland and my wife and I would have liked a more choice for lunch, same as you offer at dinner perhaps !!
P.S. the version of your luncheon lasagna was interesting, but missed the mark for us
Absolutely amazing! Service and food was absolutely wonderful!
The pasta tasting menu was fantastic. The portions are huge, so I ended up having to take the last course home.
Used to love SPQR for incredible pasta, quiet experience. Most recently: tables are an inch apart so your neighbor's conversation dominates. NO privacy. Sitting at bar is better. Food on recent visit nothing special, odd thin minimally flavored pasta dish, dry unintegrated veggie starter, expensive wine by the glass. Starter, pasta dish, 2 glasses wine = $113 + tip = $135. For one person! Disappointed. Nice efficient knowledgable servers.
Beautiful meal.
I waited for the waitress for 15 minutes, although the restaurant had only three customers. The tasting dishes were too large and accordingly prepared for a very long time, I spent two hours on a regular lunch. The only restaurant where I was charged $ 7 for boiling water in a cup.
Horrible food and service!!! Our waiter came to our table maybe 3 times in the course of our meal! Food sooo awful and super expensive! Do not recommend...and no liquor license ...
I’ve wanted to go to SPQR for a long time. The food was delicious and the staff was on it. The spacing of the tables, however, is too close for comfort. It seemed like the diners on either side of us could hear our discussion as we could certainly hear theirs. I don’t expect to feel like I’m in a private room but the restaurant should respect that customers are going to socialize as well as eat. I only saw the front part of the restaurant so maybe the back is better. I ate every morsel on my plate but overall, I couldn’t wait to leave.
Small table shoved in a corner, way overpriced for the location, service and food.
Beautiful. Perfectly thoughtful plates, attentive and respectful service, and the best playlist for a fun and relaxing evening. Would recommend to anyone looking for a really good meal in an unpretentious yet elevated atmosphere.
One of the best meals I've ever had in my life. I can't wait to go back!
SPQR has been one of my favorite places in SF for a long time. The ambiance is intimate and the noise level is low enough that you can actually have a conversation. The wine list is extensive, so I always just ask for a recommendation. This last time, the server brought out a beautiful Barbaresco, and he happened to have worked at that vineyard and helped make an earlier vintage. The food is fantastic, especially the pastas. Personally, I like to order a few antipasti and a couple of pasta dishes, but if a secondi looks especially good then I'd go for it. I don't have a sweet tooth, but this is one place where I'll get dessert, and I'd highly recommend getting whatever wine they have paired with it. This last time, it was a spiced dessert wine with a toasted bready Italian cake that was absolutely perfect. SPQR reminds me of a place you'd find in New York: great food, great wine, great service, great atmosphere, and no silly trendy stuff. I love this place.
Wow - so delicicous! The pasta with truffles was unbelievable - full of flavor! Every bite was completely enjoyed. The entire evening was delightful. Service was terrific. All in all a great experience.
It had been awhile since I’d been to the restaurant and was happy to go back. The food did not disappoint and was excellent as always.
Service was a little awkward right at the start — perhaps the waiter was having an off night when asked about a specific wine selection. That gave me a little worry at the outset for how the remainder of the meal might go, but it sorted itself and the recommendation was quite good, so just a minor kerfuffle in all.
There’s a casual ease to the restaurant in that it delivers great food, but doesn’t have a pretentious or precious approach. Definitely adding it back into my repertory.
Pastas are delicious! They use seasonal fruits and veggies. Service is so friendly. Ambiance is calm and inviting.
My girlfriend’s dish had a piece of crab shell. Was not overall pleased with the dish, was expecting to be blown away with risotto. They did have a great A5 wagyu appetizer!
Love this place. The food. The wine. The ambience. The music. The service the service the service. They make you feel simultaneously comfortable and special. One of my favorite places, if not my favorite, in SF
Yummy food in cozy neighborhood spot. Very hospitable service
5/5
Gorgeous experience.
The chicken liver mousse with Quince Marmellata was succulent. The bucatini with bleu cheese was rich and satisfying. The pecan pie dessert was a nice way to finish off the evening. We had a lovely bottle of wine from Verduno in Piedmont. Our server was polite and attentive. While I had not been to SPQR before, I will certainly be back.
Living mostly in Europe and following Guide Michelin guidance frequently. Eating at Guide Michelin star or Bib Gourmand restaurants several times a week, it surprises me that SPQR got one star. Mediocre at best.
We had a reservation toward the end of the night. Ordered 4 courses between three of us. Antipasti courses came out right away and were excellent. Not too long afterward, waiter brought out new plates and silverware and we assumed the pasta dishes would soon follow. At that point almost 40 minutes went by without the food coming out or the waiter checking in on us. It finally came out via another server and a brief apology, but the dishes were definitely lukewarm. They brought us dessert on the house but overall it was a poor experience, especially for my mom who was visiting.
SPQR did not disappoint! The food was fabulous, as was the service! Nani was our waitress, and was great. She gave us wonderful recommendations, on both wine and food. Would highly recommend, and will definitely dine there again.
Awesome food, smart and welcoming service!!! Loved my dining experience at SPQR!!!
Great appetizers, fresh mozzarella with mushrooms and zucchini with prosciutto
Cocoa pasta with veal chunks and roasted broccoli and gnocchi were the main course dishes. Both tasty
Attentive waiter.
Heavenly evening, just like the earlier two times I have been here——for a gluten-free person like me, the real potato gnocchi is perfection—--this time with a Dungeness crab sauce that was out of this world.
Service was very slow and restaurant was cold. Food was good, but portions were small and overpriced. Not worth the money IMO.
We are regulars here for a good reason: it's an outstanding experience.
