The best Italian food I've had in Boston. The Bolognese was outstanding, potato gnocci perfectly light and fluffy. Service was a little slow, but the charm of the waiters made up for it. We drank a bottle of good Lambrusco and enjoyed watching the staff and other diners in the unique counter-style environment.
The food was well-prepared and tasty. Would definitely go back again!
We were in Boston at the beginning of a 2 week trip around New England and ate at Sportello on our first day in town. We loved it so much that we went again at the end of our vacation. Wish we had Sportello back home in Northern California. Food is simple, well-prepared and so delicious. Service is excellent, atmosphere is light and fun. All around great dining experience.
We tried this place for restaurant week. The food was very good. The bread to start is soft and flavorful. The salad app was great with kale, pears and goat cheese. I had the sea bass which had a wonderful crispy skin and it sat in a flavorful broth. I'd get that again. For a dessert, I got the sorbet & gelato - yummy!
Only down fall is that they do not have a full bar. There is a cocktail menu, but they can only make those cocktail. We asked for a vodka soda & old fashioned and it wasn't possible. Not a huge deal, but important to note.
My husband and I had a fabulous “date lunch” at Sportello. Our food was amazing, the service was attentive, the table next to the window was perfect!! We had such a great time! Thank you!
It was a packed restaurant, but they service and food were excellent and we were seated quickly after checking in.

If you love quality food, this is the place for you. We chose the meal option where they just cook and bring you three courses. At $55, this was an amazing experience. You can tell thought and love go into each plate. Portions were perfected. We topped it off with the chocolate delice. Would definitely go again!
Creating 1/2 portion entrees would be an attractive options for those with smaller appetites wanting to try more than one course. The kale salad was one of the best ever; massaged with the perfect amount of dressing; zesty and sweet with a balance of flavor, texture and satisfaction. Chocolate mousse with plum sorbet and caramel was a beautiful combination of flavors that made tastebuds sing!
We had a great restaurant week dinner at Sportello! The Heirloom Tomato salad was absolutely perfect, as was the tomato soup. The Snapper was also excellent, but I was underwhelmed by the Cacio de Pepe, the portion was very small (especially for the price!) and the flavor was a little thin. Both desserts were terrific also, and I loved watching the action in the kitchen.
First time here. Had an early reservation at 5.00. Was quiet but still eno Huh atmosphere. By 7 the place was jumping and maybe a bit too loud tbh. Food was really excellent. The crostini apps were amazing. Buratta anyone. Wow. Had the whole Dorade for entree. Stunning. Would recommend. I will probably aim for earlier slots so a bit quieter. Cools sitting at bar but they also have tables. Very attentive service.
For all the hype this restaurant gets and it’s menu prices, I was expecting it to be a great place to get together with our friends and catch up over dinner. Unfortunately, the noise level and extremely uncomfortable seating leant neither to easy, audible conversation nor a long, lingering meal. And I don’t know what audience the diner seating dinner scene is catered to but it’s certainly not our style. Finally, I know the Italians are known for their Campari and Aperol but I can only handle so many cough-syrup-colored/tasting cocktails. The one saving item was the outstanding and creative octopus carpaccio. But this was perhaps the only thing I would want to repeat about our experience.

Place was good, but not over the top, but not as great as I was told. The food was well prepared. The server was outstanding. Atmosphere was better for lunch and it was very loud.

We had wonderful, very attentive service and an even better meal! We started off with antipasti & cheese with the bread. Highly recommend the crostini options. From there we ordered the cappelletti (which might be tied for the best italian dish I have ever had in my life: roasted corn, baby shrimp, and pancetta) along with the Strascinati. We both enjoyed our drinks and our desserts -- cherry sorbetti and blood orange sherbert -- were oustanding.
Good for special occassion, as it was a bit pricey, but the food was worth every penny. Very knowledgeable, friendly staff and watching the kitchen at work in this open concept is always fun.
Sleek intimate space, located just above street level. The pastas were excellent as was the whole fish (dorade). Great for people-watching.
Love this place. The food is unreal and our waiter was absolutely hilarious (I wish I remembered his name to give him a shout out!)
They also do this manhattan variation drink that's unreal and a must try.
Couldn't recommend more.

What a wonderful night! I frequent this place; it is my favorite in the Seaport. This night surpassed my high expectations, and my guests just raved about the place. We had wonderful food, including pasta, and the roasted whole fish. Lots of appetizers and vegetables too. The service was remarkable. My guests, all of whom were from out of town, all went back to their hotels, and called their families to was poetic about the place. The compliments continued the next day. It was a magical night, for which I will always be grateful. Thanks
This is my all time favorite restaurant in Boston. undoubtedly we have been here at least 40 times, that is how much we enjoy this restaurant The food is fabulous...very creative. The service is always excellent, as well. Overall, a 5 star restaurant that is very laid-back. The wine selection is also great.
The food was fantastic. Though the service was pretty immediate, the waitstaff didn't seem very open or friendly. Mostly just trying to get their job done - which is fine but when paying for something that is more high end, would love if it was end-to-end a great experience.
Had a nice diner at Sportello. The space is charming with two U shaped bars to sit around. The service was attentive and offered good recommendations and insights into the dishes and wine selection. We had the bolognese and gnocchi and both were very yummy.
Overall, it’s a good place to dine but does it live up to the hype? Not quite. On the downside, the bar stools are pretty uncomfortable after a while and they are locked in place so if you’re petite, it’s further from the bar than you’ll like.

Our last night in Boston, so of course, we returned to Sportello! We would go to Boston just for this restaurant. So much attention to detail.

We tried not to order everything on the menu. After lots of fish in Boston, we had fava bean purée to start and then brilliant, excellent pork chop and gnocchi. Mmmmm... when can we go back?

Fun! Sitting on stools made kitchen and people watching part of the dinner. We were wowed by every dish.
The wood bench I sat on was very uncomfortable. Needs a pad. I had to change seats with my wife to be able to sit through a wonderful coconut cake dessert.
Sportello is overpriced for what it is. Some fairly basic pasta and fairly basic vegetables, for $30+? For lunch? Not worth it. I've had good experiences here before, but I won't be back.

Food was amazing, as usual. Our waiter was arrogant and just plain rude. We were there for lunch so were one of only 3 tables and even though the service was one star, we will definitely go back.

Food was delicious and our sever was great! We had soft shell crab, so many flavors! Octopus carpaccio had such a tasty sauce. And rabbit stratsopretti was as always amazing. Our waiter knew a lot about wine, and even brought us small deserts! We had an incredible night!
My monthly business trips from NYC to Boston have become eagerly anticipated because of the opportunity to dine at Sportello. Pasta - yeah man! The meat ragu is something to sing about and the rabbit sauce is delicious - oh, I said pasta; it's house made and cooked perfectly. Start with prosecco and as many of the appetizers as you can get in front of you. My friend and I had burrata crostini, mortadella and soppressata . We then shared a perfectly grilled dorado and finished with (she) gnocchi and (me) strozzapreti with the previously mentioned rabbit. Fish then pasta? Yup - We wanted lively appetites to great the sweet fleshed fish. As soon as I finish this, I'm going to see when my next trip is - can't wait.
