Sportello is always on point when it comes to interesting, big taste, interesting sorta Italian food. And yesterday's casual business lunch did not disappoint. Perfect food all around!
Ethan was absolutely amazing! Can't wait to come back next month!
I had a hankering for some awesome, interesting handmade pasta, and killer wine, and Portello knocked it out! Ethan, my server, was the perfect combo of personable, efficient and knowledgeable. I recommend the place, and will go back every time I'm in Boston!
Good local ingredients with cool vibe. Bar scene good and relaxed atmosphere.
The portions were tiny for the prices spent. The pasta was probably about half the size of what $28 should warrant. They were also out of 2 main dishes and it was only afternoon.
Amazing experience. Service is attentive and food is delicious. I suggest sharing things so you can try more! Their pastas are a highlight, as is their coconut cake.
The selections and food were great. Atmosphere was great for having a conversation.
Great ambiance and super service. Laid back and still a fancy dinner out. Fabulous food worth the cost.
Unfortunately the service was just really slow, and the restaurant wasn't crowded. About 90 minutes for a Friday lunch.
The food was delicious. They put in the incorrect lunch for one of us, but they quickly corrected it. It wasn't too loud, but could be when full. Some may think the portions are small, but the food is rich and if you follow the course lay out, bigger dishes would be too big. The tomato soup is a must!
Great pasta. Tried their family meal that allows you to choose 2 salads, 2 pastas and 1 entry for $55/person. Everything was fresh and delicious especially the gnocchi. Interesting set up, most of the space is U-Shape counter tops on a bar stool. It was kinda of fun, interacting with your neighbors. Probably, not the best for a serious business discussion. Different dining experience.
My favorite place in the Seaport. Fabulous food and nice atmosphere.
Must not miss the opportunity to eat at this contemporary diner - You will NOT be disappointed!
Food was great and service excellent . We got especially good attention by the host when we needed special seating due to a back problem .
What a fun place to dine!
Way too noisy. the vibrations and noise from the downstairs bar were very uncomfortable.
The quality of food and service does not correspond to the rather high prices.
Decor a bit austere but food was good - kale salad, tagliatelle bolognese. No draft beer and bottled beer was seriously overpriced.
We go to Sportello a lot and always enjoy it, but our most recent meal was outstanding in every way. Fantastic service, fresh and tasty food and great drinks.
Went on a date with my husband. Definitely need a reservation. Great atmosphere. Sat at the bar near the kitchen which was fun. We went for what I believe was called the chef's tasting menu. Which is where the chef selects two appetizers or Antipasti or Zuppe + Insalate, then two pasta dishes, and one Secondi dish. You can substitute any of the dishes if you wish and it's $55 per person. Our favorite dishes were the spicy tomato soup, the burratini with golden raisins, and the Tagliatelle (AMAZING). Also had a scoop of a couple flavors of gelato which were delicious. Will definitely be going back!
Went to have lunch pre marathon race.
Ordered plain pasta. Dish size was so small I had to order 3 orders in order to have the full portion of a regular pasta plate. It was really annoying. Never seen such a small pasta dish. Even the starter salad dish was bigger
Hate to say it because we support Barbara Lynch but it was a terrible experience. The main issue was the food and value.
We wanted to order two vegetarian pastas. There were very little options as the server explained that all sauces are made with meat stock. We could have a basil pesto pasta for $29.00 or a gnocchi with mushrooms and peas for $31. Fine, we ordered around it.
We ordered an eggplant caponata crostini. The cost was $9.00 and it was one, literally one, small piece of baguette. The bread was tough and not hot and it was covered with maybe an ounce of diced eggplant/garnish. One piece of bread = $9.00? Does it make sense to anyone? It's so garish that I'm fascinated with it.
Mackerel was served on a puffed cracker that was dense and cold. There was very little seasoning on the cracker and fish. Mackerel is an oily fish served with the skin on. It needs to be marinated, pickled, cured slightly or something in order to make cold fish skin edible. On top of that, there were three 0.5 oz slices on the cracker. Hardly worth the money.
The tomato soup was tasty and the octopus was forgettable with all of the same textures inside. Add something crunchy because the paper thin garlic chips get soggy when they touch moisture.
We asked our server to cancel our entrees as we didn't want to bother with the rest. Overall, extremely disappointed as we had great meals here years ago and have been to Menton and No.9 Park and enjoyed those restaurants too.
Enjoyed it. Dined solo and got put in a spot up against a post with no view. Still great meal and a cool place just couldn’t absorb it well
EXCELLENT FOOD. NEVER DISAPPOINTS
It was a Wednesday night and very crowded and noisy. Our table was not yet ready when we arrived for our reservation although that fact was probably more our fault than the fault of the restaurant. We had pushed back our reservation time twice. The menu was nice although I thought a bit too focused on red meat. Service was rushed. Our wine bottle was misplaced several times before we asked to have it left on the table. Food execution was excellent and the flavors memorable.
I was grateful to have put this reservation down as it was a busy night! Staff was very helpful with recommendations and the food was out of this world amazing. House made items are a must.
Sportello is always our first stop whenever we visit Boston. It's the perfect restaurant and never disappoints. In fact, we ask them each time to please open one in NYC, but we get rebuffed each time. So we must visit Boston several times a year to get our Sportello fix. The food is amazing. It's a perfect date place. You look around and almost everyone is a couple for a reason. The bar seating means you're sitting next to your date and can easily talk to each other. It's intimacy in a casual setting (with Led Zeppelin rocking away!) as opposed to the usual candlelit formality. Last, but certainly not least, the thing that sets Sportello apart is the service. They are wonderful and friendly without being overbearing. They remember guests. They seem to love what they do. Katie, our server, made us feel right at home. Ethan remembered us and came by to say hello! This is the type of place that makes you want to keep going back. Or beg them to open a satellite closer to home.
Excellent service as usual!
our 2nd visit to Sportello did not live up to our memories of the first. And diners should note that as a party of 2 even with the restaurant almost empty and holding a reservation you will be seated at the counter unless you requested a table when you reserved. We enjoyed the sparkling Ferraro in the 1/2 bottle size. Our Octopus appetizer was more chewy than we thought it should be and not as good as we remembered from previous visits. The clams with white beans were in a broth that tasted of bitter greens but cooked well. The nettle pasta tasted very green and spring like but I did not like the texture of the lamb served with it. I thought the dry shreds contrasted poorly with the pasta. The blood orange granita with chocolate sprinkles was a delicious, refreshing way to end the meal. We really loved our first meal at Sportello so we will be back.
This was my second visit to Sportello.. the food was so good last time, that I thought it would bear a second visit. The seating is like a combination of old time luncheonette and restaurant (stools and tables.
I had beet carpaccio and broccolini and both were delicious. I will definitely be back to work my way thru the rest of the menu.
Favorite restaurant in the city
the drinks were amazing, the atmosphere fantastic but the food was just OK. I had higher expectations...
Amazing meal!!!! Server was AMAZING and very hospitable!
The hostess was super nice and suggested a quieter space!
Birthday lunch...food, ambiance and wine were all outstanding.
In town for a conference at the Boston Conference Center, I was drawn to the restaurant by their participation in Dine Out Boston, but I stayed for the traditional menu. Very good daily cheese, with lovely rehydrated raisins and very delicious warm small loaf bread with a dusting of coarse salt. I then chose a beet carpaccio salad, thinly sliced red beets topped with creme fraiche, I think lightly sauteed prosciutto, micro greens, and grated horseradish. Just outstanding. Expensive for a Virginia girl, but consistent with meal cost and value in Boston.
Our dinner on Saturday night at Sportello was fantastic.
The food was great, nice wine list, the service was friendly , professional and prompt.
We had the Fava bean dip with warm crusty bread. Awesome
My husband has the Bolognese and I had the potato Gnocchi with Lobster, mushroom and peas. Both were the best we have had. Although were full we couldn't resist the dessert, hazelnut torte and trio of sorbet. The torte was too die for. It was great to watch the food being prepared in the open kitchen. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Although we had no special dietary request, they ask and are happy to accommodate. Highly Recommend. Can't wait to go back.
Went to sportello for the dine-out menu and it was amazing. The food was incredible and the restaurant has a really cool vibe. Highly recommended!
We are never disappointed when we dine at Sportello. We love the consistency of the delicious meals. We enjoy attentive and friendly service. It is like going home each time. A happy experience. Thank you Team Sportello.
Went for Dine our Boston
Food was spectacular, service was great and overall it was just what we were looking for
The tomato soup and the potato gnocchi were to die for.
Definitely would go back soon!
What a disappointing lunch. For $29 a pasta, you expect the food to be brought in on time and taste delicious.
Mine was WAY to salty and made me feel sick the rest of the day. My other 6 guests were not impressed by the long wait for food either.
The experience is always great at sportello
