With two "U"-shaped counters situated around an open kitchen, Sportello (Italian for counter service) offers a menu of Chef Barbara Lynch's trattoria-inspired Italian dishes for both lunch and dinner. A modern interpretation of a diner located in Boston's Fort Point neighborhood, Sportello features an approachable, artisan wine list curated by James Beard Award Winner Cat Silirie. Snag a stool at the counter and enjoy a bowl of handmade pasta!

Please note: Sportello is primarily counter seating, but does have several tables for more conventional seating. Tables are available for parties of five or more or by request. Requests are honored based on availability.

Sportello is one of our favorite restaurants and never disappoints. We went for a sunny, Sunday afternoon lunch. Our server was friendly and attentive. My husband had the gnocchi which was, and is, always sublime. Light, creamy with delicate flavors. I had the cod...perfectly seared on top and cooked to perfection. Would give this 8 stars at least if I could!

We chose Sportello to celebrate my birthday. We were unaware that the majority of the seating is comprised of stools around a counter. We wish we would have known (no indication of this on the OpenTable app) as it was as intimate of a dining experience as we would have hoped. I would recommend marking the seating as *alternative seating on the app/website so it's clearer for those that are booking.

Sportello has been on my list of places to try for awhile. While my boyfriend and I enjoyed our meals, we didn't think the entire dinner was worth the price.

We ordered the cheese plate, and all we got was a little slab of cheese. It cost $5 just to get a side of bread to go with it.

Had fun time. 4 of us. Did family style which was OK - appeared they forgot it was for 4 people - salad could have had a few more lettuce leaves, bruschetta type appetizer could have had 4 slices versus 2 slices, things were not cut/sliced for 4, and since it was family style, there should have been some serving utensils provided. All in all was delicious and pacing was perfect.

Valentines Day menu was tasteless and boring. Small portions. Wildly overpriced. Service very slow - took 2.5 hrs to get through the meal.

Food was quite good, and there are good options on the menu. It's a bit pricey for the food preparation, we got the bolognese ($28) which is stored in tubs in a refrigerator and reheated over fresh pasta. Sometimes the concept of being able to see in the kitchen can work against you.

The service is strange because it's diner seating, so we never felt like we had great service, but waitstaff was friendly and relatively knowledgable.

I'd caution folks, because of the concept it's not very private, and you'll sit next to your date vs across from them, but it did make it easier for us to share.

While a lot of this review seems negative, we actually had a really solid meal, good wine, and for a pair of parents that don't get out much, it was a great night out.

Not sure what the hype is about...food was very unimpressive and really not worth the money. $30 for gnocchi with lobster and there were only a few flecks of lobster to be found. Service was absolutely excellent, unfortunately food did not at all live up to hopes or expectations.

The service was impeccable, and the food sublime. We shared the beet and prosciutto salad, the tagliatelle bolognese, and the pork shank. The presentations were simple and elegant, and the tastes were fantastic. They made it easy to share and we felt welcomed and happy to be there. Do wish that the stools at the counter had backs!
