Please note: Sportello is primarily counter seating, but does have several tables for more conventional seating. Tables are available for parties of five or more or by request. Requests are honored based on availability.
Wonderful Italian food, great wine list and fantastic service. The tomato soup and tagliatelle are favorites.

Poor back support, prefer barstool with a back, please consider upgrading chairs, TY
Sportello was absolutely amazing. The entire experience, from the service to the food was delightful. We had the best meal we’d have in some time. Tommy our server was such a pleasure. We thoroughly enjoyed talking with him. We will certainly be back, and we plan to recommend Sportello to anyone we meet!
Do we need to sit at the counter at Sportello for good service and a delicious meal? My husband and I and frequent guests and enjoy sitting knee to knee and have had some lovely meals. This past weekend, I booked a table for four and invited a couple celebrating a birthday. There was a reservation snafu and were finally seated but service was slow. No one seemed interested in our questions or was willing to guide us on wine choices. An appetizer of crostini was hard to share and getting a sharp knife was a saga. The fish and chicken were overcooked. The saving grace (and it was my dish, not my quests) was the delicious risotto. Do we need to eat at the counter to have a great meal at Sportello?
We had a great time. Loved the food and the service. Zordaya (sorry if I got the name wrong) who brought us to a much comfortable and nice table was very nice and went above and beyond to make sure we are happy. Tommy our waiter was very good, helpful and knowledgeable. Thank you for an enjoyable experience.
An updated ye olde sodie shop? With hard surfaces to reflect the sound more effectively? A clientele of climbers and wannabes? Seated with a view of the bathroom doors was the topping on a poorly made sundae.
The food never disappoints! The endive salad was delicate and delicious. The wine list is original and has a nice range of options. Our entrees were very tasty, and the service was friendly, informative, enthusiastic, and very competent. This place keeps its standard high and its vibe comfortable after many years in business.
Fantastic spot. Food is very good and the wine pairings are delicious.
Very good, but also pretty expensive so hard to justify it outside of special occasions. The value is there but that doesn't change the bill at the end of the night.
the best bolognese ever - it is a MUST get!!! trust me.
Great food, service, experience, will definitely go back soon!!
Outstanding food, even better service, love the atmosphere and ambiance. Staple in our weekend dining adventures.
My friend and I went here for Dine Out Boston. I had heard good things about this place and decided to try it out. They DID NOT disappoint. The food was AMAZING. Definitely will be coming back.
Carbonara noodles were mushy not Al dente; service was good but the food was really lacking.
Good was great. Couldn’t have a conversation though. Quite noisy like. Cafeteria.
The food is very good, but I do need to call them out on their lobster gnocchi: One, the amount of lobster was minuscule, maybe three small pieces of knuckle meat. Wasn't expecting an 8 ounce tail, but certainly more than what was served. Two, it sure smelled and tasted like there was truffle oil in the dish. Not a fan. Ingredient wasn't listed in the description of the dish on the menu.
Service was good, folks were friendly. Not a fan of the minimalist white diner decor. Too sterile for me.
best pasta in Boston! we had wonderful service and a great night.
Waitress was uninterested. Ordered two bottled beers, took 10 minutes to arrive @table. Ordered octopus salad for appetizer, small pieces of octopus, tasted like they were from a can. Next, we had the fettuccine (salty & over cooked with fatty, chewy pieces of cubed ham) and spaghetti bolognese (salty, spicy, and overwhelming). One of the worst dining experiences we've had in a very very long time. Avoid, like the plague!
We are fans of Menton and Drink. The food was great, service was great. I am just not a big fan of the atmosphere. I can see how some would like it, just not for me. In my opinion the ambiance is that of a traditional diner. This was really my only subjective critique. I felt it was too bright, too loud, too open, and too confined. Sitting in the stool was not a comfortable experience.
So I guess the key is to ensure you go with the right expectation in mind. If you are looking for a quaint valentines dinner, I’d recommend against it. But if you are looking for a good meal with an energetic group of friends, this may be a great choice.
I eat a lot of Italian out and this was a cut above. fabulous and great service. We went at a quiet time, Saturday midday.
Great dining experience. The pasta was fresh and delicious. The roast lamb was succulent. The service was excellent.
A lovely Valentine’s Day spot. Good food, warm service, not weirdly heteronormative.
Excellent meal. Everyone was very happy. Especially with broccoli dish and endive salad. Lunch menu was a pretty high price (basically dinner prices) but ended up being worth the money. Thanks!!
It was just ok. Barbara Lynch was on my bucket list in in town on business. The meal was just OK. I hate to say that.
Excellent experience! This restaurant was recommended by a friend. Good way beyond amazing and the staff was so welcoming. 10/10! I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
We decided to dine at Sportello to celebrate our anniversary, and it did not disappoint. They made it so special for us between giving us the best table by the window and ending the night with complimentary champagne. The service was impeccable, even though it was a very busy Saturday night. The staff was extremely knowledgeable about the food, wine pairings, and were very attentive. The food and wine were simply to die for, and we already can’t wait to come back!
Fantastic as always!! Food is always excellent but the service is where it's at.
Went to celebrate a friends birthday. The hubby and I arrived early and sat at the bar in the back for a drink. The bar was nice and cozy. The bartender was nice and made great drinks. We sat at a 4 top for dinner and our waitress was nice and attentive. The food was just ok and expensive for Boston. NYC pricing for mediocre food.
Favorite restaurant in all of Boston
Great meal. I highly recommend the pastas here. The staff was helpful and friendly. I will be back.
Was great! Food just took forever to come out
The best food, best service, best room, and best experience in Boston — bar none.
Every dish was delicious! We did the chefs three course and had more than enough food. Booked for a friend's birthday and was a little disappointed they didn't do anything for it though. Maybe they're one of those restaurants that doesn't do anything for birthdays?
Would recommend, but found the lunch items very heavy and expensive. Had a delicious salad and soup. Waitress was very pleasant.
Not amazing. One of our entrees came out cold and even if we wanted to say something we couldn’t because our waiter never asked us how our meals was.
Fantastic food, good portions for price of the feast. Highly recommend the gnocchi
We had such a lovely time at Sportello. We were celebrating my birthday. They started us off with some bubbles. We had the white bean purée with the cheese of the day. The bread is amazing. The gnocchi and bolognese was amazing. The service was perfect. She helped me pick a very nice wine within my budget. Overall amazing experience.
Never disappointed. Liked the old crostinis better though.
Wonderful food, but, at peak hours, too noisy. Without any sound absorption on the ceiling, the only way to speak is to ... raise your voice.
