Please note: Sportello is primarily counter seating, but does have several tables for more conventional seating. Tables are available for parties of five or more or by request. Requests are honored based on availability.
It’s always a great time at Sportello. We enjoyed our second anniversary dinner here, did the family meal with wine pairings, and it was a fantastic dinner!
Amazing potato gnocci with lobster and mushrooms--rich and decadent with the truffle oil. Cheese tortelloni was very flavorful, and bigole with clams was tasty, but could use more clams.
Great overall experience... portions were on the smaller side
Fantastic food in a lively environment. Looking forward to visiting again and exploring more of the menu!
Fantastic! Ethan who helped us, is by far one of the most incredible servers I've had in Boston for some time. He's engaged and engaging, witty, knowledgable, and created a phenomenal experience for my friend and I. Second meal in his section in the recent months and again could not have had a better night. Looking forward to a return visit soon! Get the bolognese for dinner and the coconut cake for dessert!
Food was good, but it can be better.
The cauliflower was excellent, but the duck was too tough (or the cut was too thick). Reduce the amount, and do better execution cooking it.
Overall it is a good restaurant and I would recommend it to my friends.
Beyond delicious. I dream of the broccoli tortellini and coconut cake. Service is excellent, the only drawback is the super cool ambiance that makes people watching easy... which if you like people watching as much as me, is not a drawback at all.
Always great. Never feel rushed. Service is some of the best in town.
Excellent Italian food with a friendly, helpful service team manning the floors. Prices are just right and the atmosphere was cozy. I would return for the food. Highly recommended!
Great surprise! Like sitting at the counter at a diner or old time drugstore. Service staff was very warm and friendly. We were celebtating so we ordered a variety of food from all over the menu everything was excellent i ordered pork milanasa after being assured it wouldn`t be dry. It was perfect. If you plan on being there for 2+ hours a table would be nice. The counter stools have no back and no padding so of you are not well padded the table and chair option would be nice .
Perfect. First time. I was surprised to hear Sportello had been open for 10 years. Our server had been working there for 8. Everything was synchronized so well and the star was the food. Dope
The food was good but under salted in our opinions. The bread was great but you’d have to ask for it... the ambiance of the restaurant was great, however you can feel the bass vibrating through your seats from the place below.
My wife and loved this place.
Sadly, Sportello is well past its prime. What a shame. So very disappointing. Bolognese sauce lacked taste and was like sludge. Broccoli rabe was covered with a thick, greasy paste. Pork Milanese was dry. Grilled cauliflower was lovely as was the wine.
Barbara should throw in the towel on this one and create a new concept that delivers better on her legacy and personal brand.
Never need to go back. Avoid it — there are so many better choices in the neighborhood.
Food was unimaginative, basic elements such as salt and acidity were off in several of the dishes. For the price there are restaurants preparing similar menus that I will go to in the future. I find this is becoming a common thread across the restaurants in the Barbara Lynch Group.
We had an amazing time. The strazzapretti and bolognese are our favorites, no pasta compares. We tried the duck this time too! Really good and well cooked, but it's hard to stray from the pastas. The crudo was also fresh, complex and a great starter. The best server is Ethan as always, he's hilarious and gives the best recommendations. I'm a regular now.
A great place with great food. Close to the harbor.
Excellent pasta and wine list. Service friendly but slow. A little noisy. Would go back for the pasta anytime!
Excellent food and exceptional service. Ethan is great at his job, welcoming and makes us feel special every time we come.
Our visit was amazing! First time trying this restaurant. Food and service was on point! We enjoyed the entertainment with the chef behind the line. Our seats were up close and personal! Amazing experience!
Simple and delicious italian food in a nice open style kitchen setting.
Its a very nice restaurant, staff is friendly and courteous. I will go back.
Sportello has spoiled us for other restaurants. The food is always exceptional, the service excellent, and the drink menu interesting and good. Great wine list with knowledge to match. Although we never have trouble talking and hearing, we tend to go early before it gets packed.
Our server, Ethan, was fantastic!!! Ask him about the spoon in his apron pocket. He advised us well on the drink and food options, was present without being in our way, and gave us more than a few laughs. Cannot wait to go back. It had been a long while since my last visit and I'm not sure why. Looking forward to this being a semi-regular spot for me again. p.s. - they now offer a full bar!
We went on a Sunday night. Food was delicious but it was hard to get pass the lack of service. We will try again.
Soortello is one of our regular go back to restaurants in town. While we dine our frequently to all new, well known, hip, hot restaurants we rarely repeat dining experiences. Sportello is one of a handful in Boston that never disappoints. We enjoy each and every meal and are happy to introduce it to others.
Some of our all time favorites, Bolognese Tagliatelle, wonderful Spicy Tomato Soup,
The staff is always attentive, pleasant atmosphere, and food enjoyable. We are fans!
great service- a little pricey for the quality. staff is excellent
Unfortunately I was very disappointed after looking forward to dining at Sportello. The service was terrible, food served cold and the food lacked flavor.
The bright, clean, white aesthetic is very modern. The servers had great personalities and provided wonderful service. I went with friends for Dine Out Boston, and every dish we shared was absolutely delicious. I would definitely go back again and I highly recommend Sportello to anyone for any occasion!
Overall very good. Service was attentive. Drinks were good. Staff helped with drink recipe we requested for one of the great drinks they offered. Will go back
All pastas are amazing! The gnocchi was my table’s favorite. Some of the best I’ve ever had
The food was great. Our server was inattentive and visibly on her phone as we sat with empty drinks. We asked for our daughters food with apps but this did not happen. We regularly had to ask a manager/buster for drinks/more bread/cheese etc. for a restaurant that has such good food the service was very disappointing.
The food here is a bit inconsistent. Overall quality is very good. Service is great. I made the mistake of ordering the same meal as previous visit and I was a little disappointed. All in all I can’t wait to go back.
Great option in the Seaport. Quieter, better food and cooler ambiance than Trade or Nebo.
Amazing food. Very knowledgeable server (wine and food). Exceeded expectations, which were already high. Will return soon.
Had an awesome dinner. We did the three course with wine pairings. It was a lot of delicious food and they were generous with the wine pairings. Barbara Lynch restaurants always have interesting wine pairing with grapes you’d never try yourself all in it was about $100 Which for the quality and quantity was a good deal
One of the best restaurants I have been to in Boston. The food was amazing and incredibly original, the restaurant is beautifully decorated, and the value combined was perfect. A perfect place to go to on a date, with friends, or with your family.
Valentine’s Day dinner
Atrocious. We came for Valentine’s Day and for $95 per person, it was extremely disappointing. The meal was underwhelming and the food was something I could have made @home. Literally one of the dishes was a vegetable tray. Not impressed. Will not be going back.
We love Sportello, but the prixe fixe valentines menu left a little to be desired. The food was great but the portions felt really small for the price, and one of the courses especially felt lackluster. Definitely recommend their regular menu - more pasta!!
That was the worst dining experience of my life. Total waste of money and we will never be going to a Barbara Lynch restaurant again. Menu was a lie ... lobster tail? Half a lobster tail... oysters? One and my wife got cauliflower. It was a total disgrace. Our second course was a damn vegetable plate ... 100 bucks a person without alcohol for total garbage.
