With two "U"-shaped counters situated around an open kitchen, Sportello (Italian for counter service) offers a menu of Chef Barbara Lynch's trattoria-inspired Italian dishes for both lunch and dinner. A modern interpretation of a diner located in Boston's Fort Point neighborhood, Sportello features an approachable, artisan wine list curated by James Beard Award Winner Cat Silirie. Snag a stool at the counter and enjoy a bowl of handmade pasta!

Please note: Sportello is primarily counter seating, but does have several tables for more conventional seating. Tables are available for parties of five or more or by request. Requests are honored based on availability.

Atrocious. We came for Valentine’s Day and for $95 per person, it was extremely disappointing. The meal was underwhelming and the food was something I could have made @home. Literally one of the dishes was a vegetable tray. Not impressed. Will not be going back.

We love Sportello, but the prixe fixe valentines menu left a little to be desired. The food was great but the portions felt really small for the price, and one of the courses especially felt lackluster. Definitely recommend their regular menu - more pasta!!

That was the worst dining experience of my life. Total waste of money and we will never be going to a Barbara Lynch restaurant again. Menu was a lie ... lobster tail? Half a lobster tail... oysters? One and my wife got cauliflower. It was a total disgrace. Our second course was a damn vegetable plate ... 100 bucks a person without alcohol for total garbage.

This was a lunch visit. The ambience was a bit dull. A bit disappointing since I had been in the evening before. Food and service were still great.

The food was fantastic. Unfortunately, the service was a bit slow and the stools were uncomfortable (I’m tall and my knees kept hitting the counter wall). Nevertheless, our server was friendly and our experience was enjoyable. I highly recommend for anyone looking for quality Italian.

How can you eat at a large , well lit counter and have an A1 experience? Only Barbara Lynch can create that at Porrell’s. Great for two people who want to dine somewhere with a flair for fun and excellent food and service. Highly recommended

Prices seem to have increased quite a bit. Service was excellent but food seemed to have gone down a little bit in quality. Somewhat disappointed in our overall experience. We probably will not be back.

We had a fantastic lunch. This is a FOODYS Resturant!! The braised rabbit pasta dish was delicious . Knowledge server paired it the perfect wine. Can’t wait to go back. Also don’t skip the tomato soap with taleggio cheese crouton.

Great food! The best Rainbow trout since my mother's. Not to be missed intense blueberry sorbet as part of the chocolate delice. Would love to return with friends.

Downsides: Most seating consists of counter stools, and they're hard and uncomfortable. Also, difficult for a single person to put together a meal without spending a fortune; most parties I observed shared plates.

Counter seating, especially for groups of 3 or more, can be uncomfortable. But even regardless of party size, counter seating is uncomfortable.

My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner at Sportello. We sat at the counter which was great for people-watching. The food was delicious as was the wine and cappuccino. The wait staff was attentive. We look forward to returning!

1) Made a reservation, but almost got sat at the bar. The reason we made reservation was for a table, not a bar seat. Bar seats are stools, which are not easy on the back for a long meal. Also, did not have seat in time for reservation.
2) The wine was awful. Not sure who picks the wine glass selection, but absolutely horrendous. I had “Barbera” or something of the like and either it was rancid or simply gross.
3) I ordered tagliatelle bolognese. It was way too saucy. The pasta was good, but the aauce was too much and too rich. The bread was mediocre at best. The other person I was with ordered Bigoli, it was nothing to rave about.
Overall disappointing.

The vibe and ambiance is casual and fun. The food is excellent. It is loud and you can hear the music from Drink below the restaurant. They have the best bread that I have ever eaten. We had olives, prosciutto and coppa for apps and all were excellent. We had 2 different handmade pastas as a main course that were also excellent. Service was attentive and suggestions were spot on.

This is a great restaurant for a lunch business mean. It is quiet enough for conversation and the food and service are fantastic.

We were incredibly well taken care of by our waiter (Tommy, I think?). He made us feel like he was our personal server and really took his time with us. It resulted in a wonderful experience. Highlights aside from the service was the mountain of prosciutto, the melt in your mouth gnocchi and the perfectly garlic-y mussels. We opted for the tasting menu and it was worth every penny.

We were visiting Boston for a couple of days and a friend recommended this restaurant. We love good Italian and for us, it ticked all the boxes. Yummy.

Not what we were expecting based on prior dining experience. Waitress seemed unhappy to be working - was not warm or friendly. She did make excellent wine recommendations. Surprised by the food. Portions were small and were not packed with the usual bold flavors. Meat with side of tomato sauce was odd and pineapple upside down cake was dense and unappealing. It was NYE’s so expect to pay top dollar, but didn’t feel the quality of food came close to the price per person. Disappointing.

Sportello for NYE was fun! Food was really delicious. The NYE after party was fun but could have been more well prepared for. They didn't have a full bar and the bartender kept having to get change from Menton. I also asked for a glass of red wine and it cost me $19. I get it's a fancy place, but generally when asking for any red wine I feel like charging $19 is fairly steep. The DJ also had two different types of music playing at once in the beginning and he didn't even count down to midnight. He gave a shout out to the owner at 12:01. Meanwhile everyone out is wondering why there wasn't a count down to New Year's. I would go to eat again but would not go for NYE.

incredible meal, best gnocchi i’ve ever had. one of the male hosts offered us beverages while we were waiting, i asked if espresso martinis were available and he said they don’t have the products to make one, but he went to the bar downstairs and made one specially for me. our server could have been better, but we had an amazing meal and time!

Rushed. Entrees arrived while still eating appetizers. Food was cold by the time we start eating. Clueless waitress. Not recommended if you want to have an Italian experience

I’ve been about 4 times now. It’s such a gem. I have no problem some serious dime on food if it is this good. The service is phenomenal and know their stuff. Like if I’m gonna be in Boston I’m going to eat here none negotiable. Deff important getting a reservation or you might wait for awhile. Wine list is on par to the quality of the food.

We had an exceptional experience on a Sunday night when staff had a little more time to linger and chat, including the manager. All staff was highly knowledgable about the cuisine, the chef, the wine list, and Boston, in general. The food was magnificent - from the crudo appetizer to the impossibly light gnocchi to the greatest mussels EVER. Cocktails were fresh and inventive, wine list was unique and excellent - affordable, and don't leave without a grappa or homemade limoncello for the road (unless you are driving, which we weren't - woo hoo!).

Great weekend lunch - the Osso Bucco and slightly spicy tomato soup were outstanding. The welcoming environment features an open layout that allows you to see the masterful preparations.

The food was spectacular from the lobster and mushroom gnocchi to the cannoli and housemade limoncello. Our server was awesome and made sure we were taken care of!

Unfortunately the service was terrible and the food left something to be desired.

I first went to Sportello in February and was blown away by the food and service. It appears to have gone down hill.

It took us 1h 15m to get our food. When we asked about the reason for delay, we were told that it was the Pork Milanese that ‘takes a while.’ I don’t know how frying a thin slice of poem takes long.

To be fair, the server begrudgingly offered a complimentary aperitif. But the overall attitude was frustrating.

What’s more, while we waited and waited for our food (it was about 10:15 pm) a majority of the staff congregated to hug and greet a couple who came into the restaurant to say hello. It felt inappropriate given the extreme wait time for the food.

The biggest bummer is that I really enjoyed that restaurant - and now will never go back.
