Contemporary American
Spork is a seasonally ingredient driven restaurant. Our menus food, beer, wine and cocktails are developed and implemented, first and foremost, by what we are able to source at its peak. As a restaurant that prides itself on scratch preparation, taken to the extreme, we understand how reliant we are on the local farms, butchers, seafood houses and a few select distributors that we partner with to execute our vision. Our team includes a farmer, a published author, a baker, a pitmaster, and a sommelier, in addition to the usual array of chefs, bartenders and service staff. To turn out our menus, we have on-premises, programs to: Bake all of our own breads (including in-house grain milling) - Extensively ferment and pickle vegetables - Grow and harvest a large percentage of our produce - Hand craft a full line of pastas - Smoke meats, vegetables - Produce a full range of pastries, ice creams and plated desserts.

This was the best overall meal I’ve ever had in my life. The attention to detail with the food and service was amazing. I’d recommend this over most of the more commercialized downtown locations here in Pittsburgh.

Fabulous overall, start to finish. Exceptional service, and amazing food. We loved all of the little treats sent out from the kitchen, which were complimentary to our meal. It truly felt like a Michelin star experience. I highly recommend this place!

If you need a respite from the goings on in your daily world Spork is the answer. From start to finish our dinner was memorable. We recommend taking advantage of the sommelier recommendations as her insight and selections served to elevate the evening. Also, the distancing of the tables and other precautions serve to put your mind at ease about dinning out. We will return soon.

The music was too loud to maintain a conversation. The food was disappointingly overspiced and way more expensive that it should have been. The spices were conflicting rather than complementary.
Disappointed.

When ordering wine, maybe suggest the bottle vs a glass since the pour of a glass equals 8 of their glasses. In my opinion, especially in these times, if a patron makes the effort to visit your restaurant, order a $26 app and a $60 entree, give them a decent glass of wine. Cocktail before dinner was tasteful but lacked any booze.

Lucked into finding Spork reopening on Open Table on the evening of Tuesday, June 23, 2020. We had two small plates & one large. First to arrive were the roasted asparagus deliciously sauced and dotted with pepitas. Next was the perfectly seared tuna crudo with orange roe & roe-sized-matching globes of blueberry with other delicious sauces and a smattering of crisp seaweed. Dinner was a very thin cheese ravioli with mushrooms and a smattering of beans. Delicious with the bottle of white Luzano 2018 wine. Dessert was profiteroles with strawberries, a drizzle of chocolate sauce, and some graham cracker crumbs served with a pot of decaf French press coffee. Thank you chef and staff for a spectacular return to being open for those of us who love and who will love your food.

Went to Spork for a special occasion and thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
Started with drinks and the tuna crudo followed by the crispy octopus. Oh my goodness, the flavors. We both preferred the octopus but only because it was special with the flavors and kimchi combined together with the fresh octopus.
We shared the Tilefish entree and enjoyed this very much. The chef gave us three different spoon tastes as we were waiting for each serving.
The first was a roasted beet on a crisp, followed by trout puree on a crisp that was amazing. Lastly was shrimp on a avocado mixture that was wonderful.

I normally don't get dessert by was tempted by the affogato; vanilla ice cream, espresso and honeycomb. My sister got the key lime chevre cheese tart.
Both were a perfect way to end a very enjoyable evening.
We will be back

You can tell how much love the owner/chef has for his restaurant by the way he visits each table and chats about their experience. The manager is very happy to recommend a drink or have you taste a glass of wine so you order something that will make you enjoy your meal even more. The homemade bread is out of this world and almost makes you wish you could just order a sandwich !

Better than the previous two visits.
Positives:
Better made drinks.
Better quality food.

Negatives:
The place was FREEZING.

They need more vegetarian options.
Items on the tasting menu looked good, but were not available as ala carte.

Not sure why, hopefully there’s a good reason.
We’d visit more often if that changed.

We already have plans to go back. The combinations of flavors and interesting pairings made our meals unique and spectacular. We were seated in front of the chefs and could watch, learn and discuss the food they were making. The chefs welcomed our curiosity and gave us detailed explanations of the meals we saw them prepare. The true entertainment was watching these professionals create delicious looking dinners. I had the bolognese with home made pasta. By far one of the best I have tried in the city.
We learned that the happy hour bar food is just at the bar and the rest of the restaurant is strictly served from the main menu. We sat in front of the pizza being made for the happy hour bar and definately want to try that the next time.

This was our first time at Spork and absolutely loved it! My partner and I each ordered the tasting menu, one veg the other meat, and then shared the plates.
The food was delicious, the service was on point, and the drinks were delicious (they have an amazing mocktail called Kick Back...mmmmmm!)

Wonderful food, excellent service. Has become one of our favorite spots. Only complaint is noise level. Could hardly carry on a conversation at our table of five. I get that it was a busy Saturday night and we were seated near the middle of the room but there are definitely some acoustic issues there. They have noise diffusers (I think that’s what they are) but don’t seem effective.

Great food and great people though. Definitely going back.

We visit Spork at least once or twice a year and enjoy it so much every time! The menu is smaller and changes seasonally but to me that means each item takes a lot of thought and effort. The complimentary bread board was phenomenal. The pork cheeks small plate was a great combination of flavors and textures with the savory pork, creamy polenta, and vinegar apple slaw. The scallop small plate was so delicious we were practically licking the plate. I got the duck entree and I cleaned my plate. The meat was cooked perfectly and the radish greens were a wonderful addition. My fiancé got a pasta dish that was hearty and comforting. We both got the affogato for dessert, which we have gotten every single time we’ve come! Their old fashioned was strong and tasty, the cocktail menu is huge with something for everyone. We also got two samples brought to our table by the kitchen, one being a beet and kimchi tartar on a rye cracker and rock shrimp with avocado cream on a homemade corn tortilla chip. Both were refreshing, unique and addicting! I would highly recommend Spork to anyone and everyone. You can’t go wrong.

Once again, we had a superb meal and experience at Spork - our favorite restaurant to visit while in the Pittsburgh area! The food was amazing, the tastes that Chef Christian creates are absolutely unmatchable in our opinion, and the welcoming atmosphere that greets us everytime we are there are the reasons we keep coming back. We always look forward to our visit to Spork!!!
