Contemporary American
Spork is a seasonally ingredient driven restaurant. Our menus food, beer, wine and cocktails are developed and implemented, first and foremost, by what we are able to source at its peak. As a restaurant that prides itself on scratch preparation, taken to the extreme, we understand how reliant we are on the local farms, butchers, seafood houses and a few select distributors that we partner with to execute our vision. Our team includes a farmer, a published author, a baker, a pitmaster, and a sommelier/scientist, in addition to the usual array of chefs, bartenders and service staff. To turn out our menus, we have on-premises, programs to: Bake all of our own breads (including in-house grain milling) - Cure whole hogs for hams and fermented sausages - Extensively ferment and pickle vegetables - Grow and harvest a large percentage of our produce - Hand craft a full line of pastas - Smoke meats, vegetables - Produce a full range of pastries, ice creams and plated desserts.

The following was discussed with the chef:
The two of us were looking forward to this dinner. My friend had visited the restaurant with her husband and, although she enjoyed the experience, her husband visited a drive through afterwards because of too-modest shared portions. With that in mind, I was delighted to see the $65 carnivores tasting selection —
Should be satisfying for me. My friend was excited about her vegetarian selections on the standard menu.
Ordered cocktails then placed our order. Apologetically, our server said the only way I could receive the tasting menu was if EVERYONE AT THE TABLE ordered either the carnivores or vegetarians tasting menu.
We asked she check with the chef since it was early in the evening and only two other tables were occupied.
She returned with a polite no. My generous friend ordered what she didn’t want so I could enjoy my first choice. Dinner was delicious and I ate every morsel and finished her half-finished dishes. When the chef appeared and asked how we enjoyed our dinner there was a spirited conversation about the restrictions (which, BTW, were printed in tiny type at the bottom of the menu—a menu we read by pulling out our phones for illumination)
The chef was unwavering in his presentation that this was the only was to “put the customer first”
My friend suggested that wasn’t the case or she, the customer, would have been permitted to order what she wanted. And, maybe there should be the addition of a line chef as the labor-intensity of the tasting menu was a challenge. Civilized discourse, certainly, but we both vowed that recommendations to friends would not be forthcoming. We each laid down $100. And readers, woulda’ complimentary cocktail taken some the sting out of the experience?

They messed up my order, And offered to serve me 15 mins after the other 6 people in my party. Obviously not good enough.

Spork was great. Lots of creative and delicious food options for all. Everyone working there was very hospitable and they were great with our kids, too. We were only passing through the city that night but we’d make an effort to return to Spork next time we’re back in town. Coincidentally, our 6 year daughter just said “Spork was the best restaurant” and she is looking forward to eating her leftover pasta dish “with the big meatball.”

Went with a friend and had a wonderful experience. Everything we ordered was delicious and perfectly prepared (this includes desserts and cocktails). This is the 4th or 5th time I have eaten here, and is my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh.

So amazing! Our food was incredible. Must get bread board and charcuterie. Service was impeccable. Great little find. We loved it. Made my husbands birthday very special.

The hostess seated us at a better table than we had reserved and Richard was a knowledgable and attentive server who made some fabulous recommendations. Very comfortable surroundings. Each dish was unique and delicious! We'll be back.

Cocktails were good. Thought bread board would be an appetizer but delivered after salad as an entree. Branzino was excellent. Plantain fritter was very good but open ended dish led to spillage of the arugula. The porchetta was flabby and fatty instead of crisp. Server replaced it with the jerk chicken which is reliably good at Spork. Dessert was the affogato which was excellent. Service was outstanding. But food was a mixed experience.

This is absolutely our FAVORITE restaurant! We live in Ohio and travel over to Pittsburgh so that we can have dinner here. It never disappoints! Chef Christian is so knowledgeable and it is truly a farm-to-table restaurant, as he grows his own vegetables and makes his own breads and butter in house! Everything we have had there is superb! Desserts are phenomenal as well!

Went to Spork for an anniversary dinner and had the Chef's tasting menu. It was easily one of the best meals I've ever had. In addition to great food, the service was wonderful. Our waitress was delightful, and so was the GM who was working the floor, and the bartender, and the table runners. Everyone just seemed to be working toward the same goal: to create an experience. I've already recommended it to several coworkers. We'll definitely be back!

I absolutely loved Spork! Our waiter was phenomenal and suggested some great food. My mom and I tried a whole bunch of different things. My ffavorite was the roasted root vegetable salad. The pulled pork Mac and cheese was also delicious! Great find!

Great preparation. The branzino was perfectly cooked. Everything was absolutely delicious, including the cocktails. The waiter, Peter was great as well. This was our first time and we will definitely be coming back to explore more of the menu.

Staff is always friendly which is apprecated but service can be a bit slow at times. The dishes vary considerably in size with half-servings of the pasta dishes available and smaller plates ("bites") also offered. Best to get advice from wait staff on how much to order for two or more when sharing--but do share to enjoy the variety offered.

The food was absolutely incredible, one of the best meals we've ever had! The crab soufflé blew us away, to the point that we still dream about it, and everything else was just as incredible. We went home with smiles on our faces and our bellies full :)

Because it is a tapas restaurant, the portions are small... appetizer size. That wouldn't be a problem except that the prices are entree sized. The ingredients are creative and somewhat unusual. The service was very good and the waitress explained dishes in detail. My main issue was that the portions were very small for the price.

My husband and I travel a lot and we consider Spork HANDS DOWN our absolute FAVORITE!!! We always order different dishes off the menu every time we go and we have never not loved everything! You can’t go wrong with anything you get! The chefs are awesome and SO nice and friendly! Our experience there is always fantastic! It’s a must visit every time we go to Pittsburgh!

Spork never disappoints. New and vibrant ways of combining ingredients to play delightfully on the palate as well as catch the eye will keep you coming back for more. If there was one word that describes it, that words is: thought. Everything is thought through, and done so with perfection in mind. Big dining on small plates. But with food that satisfies this well, small plates are plenty. It's a little on the pricier side of things, but it's worth it if you like to explore flavor. If you want to gorge yourself, this probably isn't the place for you.

The food was delicious -- very unusual items. There were a lot of dishes with meat, but they were very accommodating to leave the meat out of the fish options if we requested it. It was a very fun and pleasant atmosphere. I would definitely come back.

Came for the 1st time for our Anniversary (put on the res, wasn’t acknowledged. No big deal). Our server was very friendly and explained the menu well. We chose 4 things to split between the 2 of us try different dishes. Overall a good experience, until the bill came. Our 2 bourbons were charged double the listed amount on the menu, and we were charged the full sized mac & cheese (vs. tapas size). We didn’t want to look cheap and say something but, really? We told our server we wanted to sample different things so why the full size dish? We were never asked when we ordered, but thought it was assumed we wanted the tapas portion (we didn’t know when we were served as we have no idea in portion size since it was our first time). I have no idea how the bar drinks got to be, but it was just a sour way to end the evening. Menu prices are high for portions, so due to this and being charged more than advertised for drinks/our server not being clear about our choices, I do not think we will be returning.

Spork was amazing! The chicken and Mac n cheese were our favorites, but every single plate we got was fabulous! Before we even left, I couldn't wait to go back! This restaurant will leave you satisfied in every sense! The food and the service are remarkable!
