Spitfire Grill is located in Santa Monica, California and serves the community in and around the Santa Monica airport. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and also offers a dessert menu and a bar menu. Some of the menu items at Spitfire Grill include traditional breakfast items like eggs Benedict and buttermilk pancakes. Lunch items include salads, burgers, sandwiches and entres of BBQ ribs, fish and chips and fish tacos. Dinner entres include grilled salmon, rib eye, herb roasted half chicken, pecan chicken, chicken alfredo and chicken parmesan.
The food is very good here and we love the casual relax atmosphere. This our favorite local restaurant since we know we can always count on great service and consistently good food.
The Spitfire Grill is a casual, friendly, colorful place to relax and talk serving solid food at reasonable prices. They make you feel comfortable with their good service.
We ate breakfast on the patio. Weather was great. I ordered the light Mediterranean egg white omelette. EXCELLENT!!!
I love this place for a lot of reason. But my two favorite reasons for loving it is the fact that they serve breakfast late into the afternoon and the chocolate chip pancakes! These two factors bring me back every time. Service was great and friendly.
I'm a big aviation freak. This restaurant dates back to the 40s or 50s with lots of memorabilia on the wall related to aviation. The food was very good my only complaint was I am allergic to spicy foods with pepper. Much of the food I Joe's on the set New Year's eve menu had pepper in it. The waitress was very accommodating in helping to substitute food when I couldn't get them. My friends who can eat spicy food felt that those foods I couldn't eat we're very good. I would definitely go back there again.
Great burgers, but this time our slices of pickles could've been better - larger, crisper, more sour, not wimpy. Glad that we were able to still sit outside with the heating lamps on this sunny and crisp day. Always nice to see the dogs with their owners in this dog friendly establishment.
I have loved the Spitfire Grill for many years. Its my choice for all luncheons and Holiday gatherings with my family and 7 friends from High School . Never disappointed.
Our server Natalie was professional,
personable, friendly and accommodating in making substitutions. Our hamburgers and salads were ample, fresh and delicious!
Looking to have a meal where you can actually have a conversation with the people you are dining with? Look no further than the Spitfire Grill. Service is attentive and unrushed and the food is well prepared with numerous options that will please even the most picky of eaters. Great for kids or a quiet dinner for two, the wine list is good and they have a nice bar and two large patios for dining outside under the stars. I have never had a bad meal and I have tried numerous entrees here. Recommended: Wedge salad, 1/2 roast chicken, chicken Marsala (one with the cranberries is exceptional), fish and chips (battered fresh here with two fish options), trio of street tacos, carne asada, and for dessert the dark Chocolate s'mores. Enjoy.
Spitfire has been a great find, nestled next to SM Airport and its dog park. You see a lot of dog people on its patio. The food is dependable and service usually reliable. Its a great place to sit outside and enjoy dinner.
The food at Spitfire Grill is always great. Service is prompt and courteous. I always like the opportunity for people watching and the view of the Santa Monica Airport.
Loved the Carne Asada the meat was tender and perfect. My mom had the burger and she loved the chips.
My Cobb salad was nice and fresh. My friend's breakfast was very reasonable, good and plentiful. Sat outside where the weather was pleasant. I like that it's a dog friendly restaurant.
The food there was great and the employees were very friendly. The service was very good given the place was slammed when we got there. It did take over an hour for our order to arrive but again, the place was very busy. We enjoyed the ambiance and were just chilling out chatting anyway. It worked out perfectly for us.
I mainly go to Spitfire because of their breakfast food. I love their chocolate chip pancakes. I particularly love that they serve breakfast till 3pm! Overall I have good experiences there. This time I was a bit disappointed, because the service was a bit slow and my eggs were undercooked. But overall I'd eat here again.
Great burger, Very neighborhoody spot!
Services very relaxed about their job!
We have always enjoyed the Grill for breakfast, lunch and dinner and tonight it's was as always fun to be at for dinner. The service was excellent as usual. Drinks and food were up to speed. Thanks to Nicole for making a pleasurable time.
Great food, great service, interesting people.
Always great breakfast and lunch.
Wait staff is always pleasant and attentive!!! We always enjoy our monthly lunch bunch get togethers at Spitfire!
Loved the lunch and the service! Will stop there whenever we drop into SMO.
I like the Spitfire Grill for the great food, outdoor tables and no hassle parking not possible in so much of Santa Monica.
nice menu with interesting beverage selection including draft beer and cider and home made sangria. unfortunately, the service is slow and disjointed.
Worst service and waited over an hour for our food. Some of our friends never got their food and our order was even wrong. The attitude of the staff was they did not care. We had reservations so they were expecting us. I was embarrassed that I brought out friends there. I would never go back to a Spitfire Grill!
We ordered right when we sat down and it took more than an HOUR to get our food. The waitress didn't check on us or any of the tables around until after we got our food. Will never go back
Reliable burgers and other "diner type" food... friendly service...
The location across the street from the Snta Monica airport and down the street from the Ruskin Theatre Group is really the reason to go. Not many places to eat in the area and Spitfire is perfect before an 8PM show. Lots of kids dining after their games on the Sports Field across the street.
Great place to meet for outdoor brunch. Plenty of parking and outdoor seating.
Spitfire has been around for decades at this point and the wear and tear on the decor reflect that. Let's face it, the place is tired. It still has some of the easiest free parking to be had on the west side and the patios continue to be a wonderful relaxing way to spend a brunch or lunch. The food is solid high end coffee shop grub for a good price (where can you still get a short stack of pancakes for $4.00?)
Service is the main issue. Most of the wait staff was attentive and helpful. Our waitress was not one of them. She greeted us and immediately disappeared. We relied on the great busboys and the other wait staff to limp through the majority of our meal.
Still, a great place to go when the weather's good.
god brunch, great priced mimosas, good service, good food with good portions!! and always friendly servers managers and busboys...can not say enough about Don who will go out of his way to be sure your meal is as ordered, that you're welcome and always has kind words to greet you with when you go in. We' ve planned group functions there in the summer and he and staff just knocked themselves out to help us!
I used to hold meetings at Spitfire several years ago, and I always remember the service being friendly and attentive and the food being tasty. The service hasn't changed, but the food I had a couple nights ago was lackluster. The ahi tuna on my sandwich was tough and flavorless. The onion rings were greasy. One of the kitchen staff brought us what appeared to be a crab dip, which we didn't order, but it appeared dried out. The rusks served with it weren't crisp.
I hate giving poor reviews, but i hate seeing an otherwise comfortable venue lose its edge. I may come back to the Spitfire one day, but considering its unexciting food and somewhat out-of-the-way location, that's not likely to be soon.
Terrible bread basket, artichoke dip was the worse I've had. Last time I'm going there.
This place is really only good for drinks.
A very pleasant place to have a casual meal and a visit with a friend. Go early for breakfast or lunch and it is relatively quiet. The breakfast menu is filled with delicious choices as is the lunch menu.
The last time we ate at the Spitfire Grill, about 5 years ago, the food and service were good, and the ambiance was enjoyable. This time was a very different experience. In general, the food was marginal. My wife and I had fish tacos Baja style. The fish was dry. My wife specifically asked if the tacos had cabbage or lettuce. She likes cabbage and loathes lettuce. The waitress assured us it was cabbage. They can heavily covered with lettuce. When we were finally able to locate the waitress, she offered to replace the meal, unfortunately the rest of the party was finished so she offered to replace the meal to go. The to go meal had cabbage but the wrong tortillas and none of the sides. Poor attention to detail, poor service. We won't be back
The food was fantastic, and the happy hour from 4pm-close daily is great! We loved the artichoke dip served with warm crunchy bread, and the turkey burger was one of the best I've had in LA. The service was the best part though. We arrived and promptly realized we'd forgotten our tickets for an event we were attending at the Barker Hangar down the street. We asked if there were anyway they could print them for us, and they didn't hesitate to help. They were super helpful and attentive with an easy-breezy attitude that was refreshing. We loved it there and look forward to going back.
Nice casual atmosphere. Things seemed a bit disorganized when we (a group of 6) came in, but they eventually seated us.
Everyone seemed happy with their food and menu offered enough choices at reasonable prices.
Our party of four enjoyed our lunch at a table on the roomy patio overlooking the beautiful soccer fields. The food selections were plentiful as were the portions. Our food was prepared as ordered and brought to our table in a very timely manner by your very attentive wait staff. We all had a very enjoyable leisurely lunch.
Went for dinner... food was pretty good... no a/c so windows were which made it (barely) OK with the evening breeze, but noisy and smelly (from exhaust) as cars went by (and planes -- it's at SM airport)... service was very bad -- had to get up to get our own condiments for burgers; no-one ever came back to refill drinks... at one point a patron actually left after about 10 minutes because no-one ever came to bring a menu or water.
Have been to the Spitfire many times. However, Sunday after a long trip, we just wanted to get a decent meal quickly. This was the wrong call. The place was paced and the kitchen and servers were way behind. Just hit it at the wrong time.
Steeped in airplane lore. Casual, very moderately priced.
We made a reservation at the last minute for a party of nine (three children) and were graciously accomodated. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful summer evening while watching planes take off and land. The appetizers we tried - garlic parmesan french fries, mini steak tacos, and calamari - were divine. The Wedge salad with bleu cheese, bacon and tomatoes was delicious. The entrees were wonderful. Our server was friendly, helpful and spot on with her recommendations. Save room for dessert because you have to try the Chocolate Chip Cookie sundae and the chocolate cake. Every meal we've had here has been fantastic. We can't wait to come back!
Our first visit was a great success! the menu is varied and all dishes were more than adequate and very well prepared. The atmosphere is casual with multiple tv's. It is located at the SM airport and it is fun to drive through.
