What Insiders Are Saying
Spinasse in Capitol Hill is one of the best fork-up-your-money Italian restaurants in Seattle.
We were able to get a table on a Thursday night with luck on the recommendation of a sales person from Design Within Reach. We did the tasting menu which gives a sample of basically the entire menu. Some standouts included ALL of the cold antipasti, but if I had to pick one, the baby artichokes were it. The hot antipasti were also both good with the polenta having a lovely texture and hint of corn essence. The pastas came next, and I was shocked at how much I liked the Tajarin con burro e salvia. The cavatelli with morels was a bit salty for me, but my partner loved it, and the pea risotto was fresh and the chive blossoms added just a nice bite to cut the richness. Of the secondi, both of us felt the standout was the haddock -absolutely perfectly cooked. Needless to say we were stuffed by the end and I could not finish either the rabbit or the pork. Be warned the tasting is a lot of food (our servers did advise us of this fact, but ...). I am now going to head home to Toronto and try to replicate that Tajarin!
Once again, the word for this restaurant is exquisite. Service is not our primary focus, but when it is very good we do want to acknowledge that fact. Our server was exactly what we hope for, knowledgeable, willing and able to make good recommendations, friendly but not obsequious. This restaurant is known for its pasta, which is deserved, but they also handle vegetables in season exceptionally well, the carciofi and morels were stunningly good. The recommended wine was different slightly from what I thought I wanted, but was a far better fit for our dinner and very delicious with it. Frankly, from the beginning Negroni and amuse Boucher to the pistachio gelato it was memorable, delectable, satisfying, never just fussy or lacking flavor which sadly is sometimes the case at far more pretentious spots that lack this spot’s focus on quality of ingredients, execution and flavor. Along with Joule, Chan and Opus, this is one of our small handful of absolute favorites in Seattle, or frankly anywhere for that matter.
The entire experience was absolutely incredible. Our server was amazing as was the food and the wine.
Amazing! Will return when in Seattle!
Food was salty and very limited options for dinner
We visited in 2008 when they were just opening and had such a memorable experience that we promised that some day we would journey back. This meal topped the first and we were welcomed like long lost family.
The service for the full team was exceptional. They were very aware of what was going on but not in our face. Knowledgeable about the food, the wine list and their cocktails before and after dinner. Their recommendations were spot on! For our first time, we felt like long time regulars.
The quality of the food was authentic Italian and the value was reasonable for the quality of the food and service.
Definitely a must!
Thank you for a fabulous experience tonight. It was enjoyable and memorable.
Been here a few times, it’s always been great! Food and service are excellent, bring good company and it makes for a great night!
A delightful dining experience with three Seattle u students! All agreed that the broccoli was delicious and that’s saying something for young adults! Thanks for a wonderful dinner!
After reading about Spinasse and waiting several weeks for our reservation. To say we were underwhelmed is an understatement. The selections were fair the delivery and execution were poor. The ambiance reminds me of a spinsters apartment, the waitress was annoyed to be there and it showed. The signature pasta dish remained uneaten and removed. The prosciutto appetizer was simply meat on a platter. Very disappointing after a considerable build up.
Ive eaten here for over a decade and honestly struggle with how intense they have become around reservations and now taking credit cards- it feels too high stakes and inflexible. That I can live with, however the last several times the food has also been adequate for certain but not extraordinary. Sadly they may be suffering from fame, expectations and demand are up and the pressure has produced strain somehow that affects the ability to provide an exceptional meal.
This is the finest Italian restaurant this side of Italy. The tasting menu is to die for but if just having a quick meal the pasta is ridiculous!
From the moment in the door until regretfully leaving, it was a dining experience to behold. Impeccable service, perfect portions and amazing pasta dishes. Wonderful!
Excellent food but the service fell off after the appetizers. Our primi dish took quite awhile and the secondi even ridiculously longer. They tried to pass it off when dropping’s the check that this is Italian style dining (slower paced, drawn out) but none of that was explained even when I mentioned it was our first time here. It also didn’t make sense because the table next to us that arrived and ordered after us (they sat down after we got our appetizers) ended up finishing their meal off with dessert and coffee, paid and left while we were still waiting for our secondi dishes. In fact they got their primi dishes before us too. Our servers even had a shift change while waiting for our last dishes and I can’t tell you how many times we were told it’s coming soon or being plated. I did appreciate the round of drinks comped at the very end but we were so tired. Overall food was delicious but service left more to be desired.
We dined at Spinasse two years ago and had one of the most memorable meals ever. The second time back was certainly enjoyable and although the food was delicious, it wasn’t as memorable as our first dinner there. That said, I would definitely go back as their menu changes seasonally and there is always something new to experience.
Great food, service and atmosphere. Love this place
Unique and interesting flavours, excellent wines and food from northern Italian influences. Lovely restaurant and kitchen which is open and appears like a home kitchen. A must visit when in Seattle for a special meal.
Only small note, menu I felt was a little restrictive, a couple of extra options or specials would be good I think.
You can watch their delicious pasta being made in their kitchen. The pasta with butter and sage might sound simple but that alone is worth a trip to Spinasse.
Spinansse is fantastic as is their sister restaurant. The homemade pastas are outstanding. I'm from SF and waited a year to return and eat here. It did not disappoint! Each dish looked amazing and tasted amazing. We sat at the counter and Beird was personable, attentive and knowledgeable about each dish.
I live part-time in Italy. I guaranty this is as close to authentic Piemontese cuisine as I've had anywhere in the U.S. -- especially the pasta dishes. Close your eyes and enjoy a forkful of the tajarin al ragu. You'll swear you're sitting in a trattoria in La Morra. Not to be missed.
This restuarant was fabulously tasteful. They cared about their customers, too; not only did they give us a free starter, but they gave us an entirely free dessert of panna cotta just because we said we had never had it before and they wanted us to know how great it was. The food was superb, and it was all around a lovely experience!
Thank you to Jason for amazing service and chefs for delicious food!!! Angela your staff does such a great job! Thank you. Roberto and Alfredo
Perfection in every way!
Excellent as “ALWAYS”!!! Best Italian... Our Waitress was the Best!!!
This restaurant is a “must”! Excellent food, service and atmosphere!
Perfect evening from start to finish. Some of the best pasta that I've ever tasted.
A friend recommended that we come here and it did not disappoint. Four of us ordered a bunch of dishes family style and shared. The butter sage pasta was insanely rich and delicious (4 of us shared a full portion and couldn't have eaten anymore). The service was great and we enjoyed all the waiters recommendations. Cocktails and ambiance also great. I will go back when I am in Seattle.
Outstanding service in a laid back setting. Great wine list. Agnolotti; best I've ever had.
Probably the best pasta I’ve ever had, not exaggerating.
The hand cut egg pasta with butter and sage was to die for
house special sage butter and ragu pastas over salted. antipasti platter good. waiter tried to get us to order at least twice as much food as we did and we still had leftovers. disappointing.
One of our favorite places in Seattle. You feel like you’re in Italy. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the sage butter pasta which is usually superb was too buttery. There was not enough edge to balance as I could only taste too much butter..everything else was delicious!
My favorite Seattle restaurant, Spinasse, has the best pasta, service and ambience. Always love stopping by when I’m in town!
I would definitely recommend Spinasse to a friend to try at least once in their lifetime. The food and cocktails taste great and the service is excellent. The only negative thing I have to say is the value of the food for the price. I would go again during happy hour or restaurant week.
Very delicious food, excellent service, and very quick for any and all requests. My table got a chef special appetizer from the kitchen on the house just because they are so sweet! I would absolutely come again.
Best food. Best service. Absolutely my favorite restaurant in Seattle. Thank you for being so lovely Spinasse! 💜
Spinasse was a wonderful experience. The food on this visit wasn't quite as transcendental on our previous visits (things were slightly overly salted), but we will always return due to the general consistency of food quality overall and amazing service.
Very delicious dinner. We were there for a belated anniversary dinner for our son and daughter-in-law. They are fond of Spinasse. I just wish they had gluten-free pasta for my husband.
Wonderfull all around!! Food and service were fantastic!
