What Insiders Are Saying
Spinasse in Capitol Hill is one of the best fork-up-your-money Italian restaurants in Seattle.
Our server Baird was the best!
Great food and great service!
Delicious Italian food with great ambience. See fresh pasta hanging in swaths in the kitchen, and a gorgeous bar in the other room gives you a sense of Spinasse. Delicious food, great hospitality. The pasta was so fresh and yummy; I was only disappointed that the noodles in the ragu weren't wider (they were quite thin). Overall, wonderful dinner with a long-time wonderful friend.
Always a treat with regard to food. Fine pastas. Kind wait staff. We still love this restaurant.
Portions seem to be getting smaller. Wait staff , perhaps in an effort to be unobtrusive, were almost forgetful. Too long between courses( I appreciate and like pauses between but not intermissions). Servers changed while we were there and we didn’t know who was taking care of table. Difficult to get anyone’s attention to ask for check. This has happened before but server let us know someone else was taking over, which was helpful.
Really just nails everything it set out to do. Deliver fresh handmade pastas, fresh fare and fantastic wine selections in a cozy, rustic environment. Service was top notch, very well informed, humble and gracious. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Count on a return visit next time I'm in Seattle.
We have been before. Always fun. Great atmosphere and service. Food is good too, but it varies, sometimes better than others. Menu is a little limited an never changes very much. Always a couple specials.
My friend and I said our goodbyes as her Uber arrived and we both shared how the evening was absolutely perfect. Spinasse played a significant role. The service was warm, knowledgeable and very helpful. The food was brilliantly created for each bite to be savored. The Primi Sampler - perfection. The beet salad was my favorite. Next up - beef and pork ragu. We both appreciated the richness in flavor and yet a lightness thanks to the pasta and a clearly smart chef. When do you say a ragu was light? Trout with onion relish and olives for our meal was the perfect choice. The combo of conversation with great friend, attentive and non-intrusive service, a menu created with smarts and a lot of heart served up with a well paired and delicious Barbera D’Alba = “the evening was perfect.”
We had a delightful and delicious evening. We look forward to going to Spinasse again.
Similar to the first time I went, it was sublime. The best Italian food I have ever eaten. However...65 degrees is a little cold, crank up the heat a little!
It's always delicious and consistent
You cannot find a better meal in Seattle
Though the food was good, the service and seating layout left much to be desired. We arrived and were seated at a 2 top table that was, at most, 3-4” away from the table next to us. Close enough to practically be at the same table with our future neighbors. We were unsure if this was on purpose, or accidental, as the rest of the tables along our wall were pushed together to make 4 seats. Being there for our anniversary, and not wanting to be a part of anyone else’s conversation, we decided to push the tables together to avoid that. For the next several minutes I overheard the staff whispering about us and pointing toward our table, as opposed to coming over and addressing it. It was very uncomfortable, as we were not aware that it was a big deal. Eventually someone came over and said they needed to move the table back. We explained the close quarters, and I would be surprised if they could have cared less. Finally, we asked them if we could move, and they, reluctantly, let us. I’ll add that we had to gather our glasses and menus ourselves when we moved. No assistance was offered to my wife or me. After that whole fiasco, the service was decent. Another odd note I might add... as we were waiting for the check, they brought a 2 headed candle out to our table and said “Happy Anniversary”. No little dessert or treat or even a mint to celebrate us, just a candle. While I’m not at all expecting handouts, I felt that was rather odd and a little half-assed, to be frank. Overall, it didn’t live up to the hype that my friends and colleagues have given it, and I most likely won’t jump at returning or recommending.
Best Italian food in the city. Creative and delicious cuisine and service was fantastic. A somewhat hidden gem of which I will definitely be returning to many times in the future. Overall a great experience and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking Italian food.
Food and service was amazing. Cant wait to go back.
Just had another amazing meal on a cold, rainy Seattle night at my old friend, Spinasse. The sausage-stuffed cipollini onions were an inspiration and the butter and sage pasta worth every carb and calorie it contained. Rabbit meatballs are the go-to for main course. Service was attentive but not overbearing. I love this restaurant!
Food excellent. Service terrible. Will think twice before returning.
I’m italian and I love food. This place not only lived up to my expectations, it exceeded them all by far. Food is perfect, wine selection was amazing and with lots of names i knew from back home, (so really authentic) service was impeccable. Can’t even try to say something bad about this place. It’s a MUST TRY if you’re around.
Dinner for my birthday celebration. A delicious roasted beet salad followed by a pan fried trout and a decadent chocolate mousse cake along with a wonderful bottle of Nebbiolo. The wait staff very friendly and helpful. Housemate fresh pasta was silky and delicious.
Fantastic restaurant. Great food and appreciated the wine pairing recommendations. Would highly recommend the Butter & Sage pasta.
Went for NYE. Had a great experience. 6 courses. Only the first course, carne cruda was sub-par —extremely under seasoned.
Fantastic place. Best Italian food I've had. Great Amaro selection. The pasta melted in your mouth, and the polenta was amazing (I typically hate polenta).
Perfect night out and knockout service. Food was amazing.
Food could not have been any better!! We love the pasta. Hard time making choices!! I do wish there was some sort of green salad on the menu. They do bring bread but no butter and no EVOO unless you request it. Love that you can get 9 oz glasses of wine. That I know of, only Piatti in the U Village does that. Such a great idea. All in all a wonderful meal.
One word - PERFECTION! Loved every single bite. Friendly service, wonderful environment. Only negative is parking -- so arrive in plenty of time to find parking.
This was a great experience overall. Service was great. Ambiance was really good too. The waiter did a good job of explaining the menu and providing good feedback and recommendations.
If you go, get there about 30-45 minuets early and stop by Artuzi. A co-owned bar next door. Really good, and if there at HH get a meatball. It’s awesome for$5.
1). Cipollini. 5*. This was an extremely nice surprise. I can’t describe it well but perhaps my favorite dish on my entire trip to Seattle. I think the only difference would be a half order. While amazing, if felt like the size of the order was for 6 ppl. We had 4 ppl.
2). Butter and sage pasta. 3.5*. This was really good, but this time it was a bit salty. I have eaten it before and it was better. I will say the actual pasta they make here is the best I have ever had. So thin.
3). Tamarin al ragu. 5*. This was all it was cracked up to be from the press it received. Meat sauce was good with their famed pasta mentioned above.
4). Beef cheek. 4*. Perfectly prepared. The celery purée went well with the beef cheek, but I wasn’t a fan of it on its own.
5). Roasted carrots. 2*. The table wasn’t a fan overall. Many may like them. Rustic presentation. But I think the sheer size of the. Was a bit overwhelming.
6). Dessert. 4*. I had the chocolate cake. It was very very good.
Overall I ate here and at Tulio on back to back nights. The total bill came to about the same price. Different experience. Both really good. I give the nod on the pasta to Spinasse. I think I preferred the meat dish at Tulio.
every bite, start to finish, was incredible. the food is prepared with such care and attention to detail that i can't find a single thing to be critical of. the wine list is epic. the tajarin is always a heavenly experience. the porchetta and prosciutto practically melt in your mouth. the risotto with spot prawns was exceptional. i love Spinasse and am fortunate to have it in my neighborhood. keep it up team Spinasse!
This was our second time dining at Spinasse and we brought friends. Our server was excellent and the food was divine.
47th Wedding Anniversary
A very tho’tful waiter brought us a special little candelabra
& wished us Happy Anniversary!! That was sweet!!
The food really was outstanding & we enjoyed every second of our visit!
Loved everything about Spinasse! It’s dimly lit, quaint, and the foods delicious. We ordered several items and all were good- the chipollini onions were the best!!
This is hands down one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to! We did the tasting menu and it is literally everything on the menu except for the desserts. The most amazing thing is that there aren’t any misses, seriously everything is delicious! For 105$ the value is great, I’ve spent four times as much at fine dining restaurants and left feeling much less satisfied. If there was any complaint to be had it would be that they knew we had flown from California just to eat there as an engagement celebration and they didn’t do anything to acknowledge our celebration.
My wife and I love to go to Spinasse for that special occasion. The food is always flavorful and filling. Although the price can be more expensive than other restaurants, the food is worth the price. The atmosphere is also excellent for dates.
Was not as great as the reviews made it to be. Food was mediocre, not worth the price.
The food was spectacular!
Cascina Spinasse is the best and more authentic Piedmontese Italian restaurant in North America and we have been trying hard to find someplace which does not require a 5 hour flight to get there.
Well prepared. Great wine pairings. A little heavy on salt. Great wait staff. Front of the house was a little unwelcoming.
We have been to Spinasse 2x before, the first time a lovely experience and the second time far less so, due to our initial encounter with a horribly rude hostess. Our most recent dinner was for our 30th anniversary and we hoped it would be wonderful - and it absolutely was! We had an excellent waiter, Max, who knew exactly how to be there when you needed him, answering questions and making recommendations in a very pleasant manner, and otherwise invisible. All of the dishes we shared - cauliflower appetizer, angel hair pasta with butter and sage, rabbit meatballs, panfried trout, huckleberry semifreddo - were ALL just lick-the-plate delicious (and we are picky!), perfectly executed and brought to the table at a nice pace. The cocktails and wine were also superb. It was a perfect dinner in all ways - thank you!
Other than the hostess giving me a tad bit of grief for being 5 minutes late to a 5:15 pm reservation, we had a nice experience. The food is delicious and never disappoints!
Consistently delicious Italian food, wonderful made from scratch pasta. After dinner coffee was outstanding. Never disappoints. Great for entertaining out of town guests.
This is our favourite Seattle restaurant. The hand made pastas are always incredible, the appetizers and salads interesting and delicious, and whatever you do, an order of roasted carrots is a must! The menu is great for sharing. The wine list is carefully put together to represent the beautiful wines of the Piedmont region. Imagine...Barbaresco or Barolo by the glass.
Service was great. The tajarin was amazing as was the Barbaresco wine. Could've skipped the rabbit meatballs but will definitely be returning.
We paid 150$ for 2 pastas and a salad and 1/2lt red wine. All the food was salty. The meal felt rushed. What a disappointment for years we had good meals there.
