Spiga is a favorite restaurant but it was not as great as it usually is.
We have been looking forward to going to Spiga for a long time. It did not disappoint. The attention to detail in the decor, the thoughtfulness of the menu selections and the service were all very, very good. Its location is deceptive and increases the ease with which you are ensconced in another place and time as you walk in the door. The waiter was quite charming and helpful and the bussers were attentive and adept.
The only thing we missed was Marisa! And that was our fault for not calling ahead to tell her we were coming. It gives another very good reason to go back sooner rather than later!!
Best Italian in Metro West. Chef Marissa and team are the best.
We spent a delightful evening at La Spiga. The food, ambiance and staff were great. It has become one of our favorite places to dine.
First time here and loved Spiga! Happy to have the opportunity to dine outdoors in the beautiful garden area. The Burratta appetizer with prosciutto was fabulous. Entree portions were huge and very authentic and our server was extremely informative and attentive. We'll be back!
Service is so personable and excellent. Food excellent I love Spiga
Wonderful restaurant- the food was delicious and the wait staff went out of their way to make sure we were pleased. We sat outside and felt miles away from everything. We can’t wait to go back again.
Dining at Spiga made us feel like we were dining in the Italian countryside--from the warm Italian chef whom we met to our lovely Italian server, complete with scrumptious authentic homemade bread and intoxicating fish stew, robust wine: this was a very special dinner. We will gladly return, perhaps with friends. The atmosphere is classy and intimate in an understated way; open kitchen visible through window along with fire oven. Subtle flavors yet hearty; a sensuous delight we were most grateful for!
A hidden gem. Great food, courteous service, lovely private outdoor patio seating on a beautiful summer night. Perfect.
I ordered the seafood stew. It was tasteless. I took a couple of bites and decided to take it home to help out the sauce. There were a couple of dishes with market price on them. They both had lobster. My husband asked the price of the one he wanted. The waiter told him it was $35.00. I decided to get the seafood stew. I did not ask the waiter the price because I thought it would be similar. Well, it was $49.00. And it was horrible. Lobster was under cooked. We could have dined at Mistral for the price that we paid in Needham. Last trip here for us.
My husband and I had lunch with another couple. All of our meals were delicious : spaghetti's with carbonara, short ribs with risotto, three of us liked the pizza , one did not. the bread serviced before the meal was wonderful, very tasty and served warm.
Great hidden gem in Newton.
We were celebrating our daughter’s trip home on break from vet school. She asked to have a meal here - - it is a family favorite. This time we enjoyed our dinner on the patio, which was lovely. Everyone loved the food. The service is always excellent also.
Good, fresh and healty meals the waitress was very kind and willing to explain when needed,I will definitely come back and recommend it to friends and relatives
The food here is consistently delicious. Service is very good.
Food is amazing and service was attentive. Patio area is great for dining when the weather is nice.
Let me say, I LOVE Spiga and, although I didn’t give it all 5’s, it is still my favorite. We sat outside which is a hidden gem. The service was very slow (waiting for drinks x2) and the food was , surprisingly, disappointing. The shrimp scampi came with a couple of shrimp, rigatoni pasta, and no flavor or lemon sauce. The heavy pasta was too much for this typically light dish- the dish had no flavor and was very dry.
Please don’t let this stop you, just don’t get the shrimp scampi!
A lovely place to sit outside . The service was wonderful ...they accommodated special needs, provided a taste of wine before surging a glass, etc. Service could not have been nicer .
Food was meh . Very creative and tasty special appetizer with melon and smoked salmon. Bronzino was good but not remarkable and over priced (should have asked re market price , which is odd for a farmed species ); ravioli dense ; corn and risotto with lobster special also just ok.
All in all good local place with very pleasant vibe -and great service . Hope food gets a little better .
Wonderful little gem of a place. Very friendly staff. Fantastic food. Great drinks.
Very popular outdoor dining spot in the summer. Food is very good.
Sadly we couldn't get one of the outdoor tables this time. This place is a local gem! The special Prime porterhouse really rocked!
We sat outside on a beautiful summer evening totally enjoying our wonderfully prepared dinner. The service was lovely.
We ate outside on a beautiful evening. They have a nice little patio. The food was excellent and the service very attentive.
We sat outside on the deck on a lovely summer evening. The service was friendly and attentive. My one comment is that a dinner for two with one drink and two entrees, no appetizer or dessert, came to over $100.00 with the tip. This seems to me to be quite exorbitant.
I love this restaurant but it is very inconsistent. Sometimes it is wonderful, with creative beautifully cooked food and sometimes it is really awful. This time unfortunately it was awful. It was lunch and we ordered the cheese ravioli which was truly ghastly - thick, heavy shells with thin, runny filling and overly strong tomato sauce. The carbonara was just okay - spaghetti was too heavy. Service was lovely as always and the space is beautiful with a great patio but you just never know what kind of food you are going to get so it's really hard to recommend it or to go back frequently. I want it to succeed but they have to step up their game.
Excellent .. Marisa does an excellent job anywhere she is at. Her food was fabulous !!
We were out-of-town travelers looking for a nice restaurant near our hotel. Spiga was a pleasant surprise. We ordered mussels with a side of spaghetti and lamb on a skewer. they were both delicious.
Consistently delicious food. Yummy desserts. Indoor and outdoor dining options. Always enjoy my meal at this neighborhood gem. Welcoming and intimate.
Great service, good food
Very well prepared food, prices high for location. Some portions small
Really enjoy this restaurant. The staff is really, service is impeccable, food is consistantly outstanding.
My husband and I went to Spiga on a Saturday night in July. It was a late dinner (9pm). We enjoyed the burrata and the meatball for an appetizer. I had a shrimp scampi special that I didn't love, but my husband's carbonara was great! The restaurant cleared out by about 9:30, but our server was very kind and continued to assure us there was no rush. I would love to go back!
We were having a small family celebration with just 4 people. I knew they wouldn't rush us and that was important as we don't get together often. We were there for three hours and had a lovely time. Food was good although two people would have loved chicken alfredo and chicken parm which you don't have on the menu. Everyone seemed very happy with what they got. A very nice experience.
We felt transported to Italy - delicious food, great unrushed service, perfect weather (we were sitting outside). What a hidden gem - our new favorite place.
We sat outside on the beautiful patio. Food was excellent but service was a little slow. I would definitely recommend for business or pleasure.
Excellent as always!!!!
There is no where i would rather eat in the Newton area.
The food is always great, creative and changing.
The presentation is beautiful, the restaurant is joyous.
The dishes are prepared with love, and to accommodate allergies, whenever possible.
This is a sign of chefs who know how to cook, not just follow the recipes!
Lovely neighborhood gem! Who knew!?
Spiga has good food — both some of the expected Italian favs and some unique items. The mixed green salad I had was very nice, though somewhat pricey given what it contained (lettuces and some nuts, basically). The Caprese Risotto was okay - cooked properly, but the cold mozzarella in rather large chunks on top was a bit odd. The big issue is the small space into which they have wedged too many tables and the fact that on a very hot evening, the restaurant was not cooled by the AC. It was unusually warm that day, and perhaps nothing could be done, but between the tight quarters, heat and noise, by an hour into our meal, I just wanted to get out. I might try it again in cooler weather, but not in the summer.
This place is a little off the beaten path but well worth it! All the pasta is homemade, great menu with delicious food. The service was outstanding and there is outdoor seating. I am definitely going back!
