Incredible food! Highly recommend, know it is a bit costly. We had a brand new server so service was slow. I would not recommend placing the 6 top we were sorted at, facing the kitchen entrance, does not enhance the ambiance. We tried to order a cocktail and the hostess said" no one knew if the bar tender was coming in", that makes for very poor customer service.
This restaurant had excellent food, but they really need to work on whether or not their diners have an exceptional experience.
They need to up their game, it would be a shame for this restaurant to fail, because all of their flaws are very fixable!
The two of us ordered four dishes, two dim sum, fried green beans, and fried squid. All were excellent. The beans were among the best I have ever had in a restaurant. The menu is huge. As we looked around the restaurant other diners seem to have favorites and enjoy them greatly. It looked like a good representation of the whole menu. Our own dishes made it clear that the kitchen is fully capable of producing excellent food, very well prepared. The dining room is simple and modestly furnished. But certainly clean and presentable. Paintings on the wall were excellent and appear to be the work of local artists. Recommended.
Very authentic food. Helpful staff. Reasonable prices. Just wish they had dessert!
Best Dim-sun place in Eugene. Peking Duck surpasses the best Chinese Food places in Portland, will compare to Seattle and San Francisco.
We had an excellent meal with many savory dishes and tasty treats. I especially loved the steamed barbecue buns. Everything there was delicious. The wait staff did everything to make us comfortable. There was never any rush or push to get the table free even though the restaurant was very busy.
I would be happy to recommend this resturant to my friends and will go back any chance I get!
We had a large group. The waitress was very accommodating. Great food. Reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend.
Excellent, authentic Chinese food. Very generous portions, great for sharing.
We made reservations for Christmas day. It was very busy and I suspect they were understaffed for an unexpected crowd, but handled it well. We were seated promptly, our order taken and menu items were served soon after by a smiling courteous staff member. The food was quite tasty and the menu was filled with hard to find dishes. Decor was upscale and the facility seemed clean.
We had been once before soon after the restaurant opened and liked the food but were concerned about ambience and service. Unfortunately nothing has changed a year later. A vegetable dish with ample fluid was served in a low sided plate and unsurprisingly spilled on the table. The menu is somewhat vague in places and requires substantial help from the nice but limited staff. When we asked if a particular dish was lo mein, our server said yes, though what came was more chow than lo mein--not entirely her fault, since lo mein was what it was called on our bill. We received a wrong dish and had to send it back and had to wait some time for a replacement. Just to give the feel. Some dishes are insipid but though most are quite good (3 of the 4 we ordered) and not routine. However the milieu and service are remain bumbly.
Excellent dumplings and crispy chicken. Order traditional foods. Dim sum.
In town for vacation and found this to be one of the top CHINESE restaurant in Eugene. The place is clean and nicely decorated, but it’s nearly empty. The waiter seems nice, but not helpful at all. The dishes are huge and we ordered way too much food. He did not say a thing and tried to push more dishes on us. Most of them went to waste unfortunately. The food is ok, but some of the dishes are extremely salty. I highly recommend the wood ear (black fungus) cold dish.
I went on Sunday the 15th around 5:30pm. Parking is ok. There is a parking lot. It might get full on busy nights. But Sunday wasn't busy. The interior is modern, fun, and clean. The staff is friendly and professional. I had a Sapporo, Pork DimSum, and the 8 piece Peeking Duck. It's a lot of food! I couldn't finish it. The DimSum came 3 to a serving with each ball being nearly the size of a baseball. The dough was delightfully cooked with a great flavor. The Peeking duck was wonderful. However, the menu say's the poultry is wild. This duck is not wild. I've had wild duck several times and farmed duck too. Wild duck has almost no fat, and lots of oil. This duck had so much fat I had to cut most of it away. That's not all bad., After all, the fat keeps the meat very very moist and also imparts a lot of flavor! The Peeking duck was very good indeed. It just wasn't what I was expecting. Not all surprises are bad ones. This one was pretty good. It was served very well plated along with Hoisin sauce and soft dough wraps.
The menu is sizeable with a good selection of items for Far East Asian cuisine. I didn't notice a desert menu. But I wasn't looking either.
I don't know why the place wasn't busier. All in all it was very good. The prices for the dishes were good. I thought that $5 for one bottle of beer was a bit steep.
Thanks to the staff! It was very good! I will be back.
Great food good for large groupd
My friends & I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Spice N Steam, Eugene, OR! GREAT food, moderate prices! We'll be back again.
Delicious garlic sirloin beef and Sweet and Sour Chicken.
We went in to see the Jazz band that was playing on a Wednesday night & were pleasantly surprised at the food & service. Had a very nice evening.
My husband and I drove 1 hour and 15 minutes to try out Spice N Steam. The waitstaff were very helpful in explaining the different dishes. The food was delicious! I recommend trying the Walnut Shrimp. We definitely will return again. The only down fall for us was we sat near where they are putting in a bar and the workers had the back door open quite often and it was rather cold. I know that will not be problem next time. Yes! We recommend giving it a try.
Very good quality food. Clean and delicious cooking. Thoroughly recommend this spot.
Great authentic Chinese Food. The BEST PEKING DUCK I have ever had.Owner was a delight. Chef came out to deliver our diner. GREAT SERVICE.
A bit pricey. Food was good, a lot of choices. We had a $50.00 gift cart and still had to pay $48.00 for three. Waiter was great, chef didn’t really speak English so the food must be authentic!
