Made reservations but when we arrived the person that tried to help us had no clue about reservations and we could not understand him. Cocktail was watered down.
No table ready for us....why allow reservations?
This place is marketed as a restaurant when in fact it's a loud sports bar. Food was OK, service was bad, the table of screaming sports fans and screeching loud TV made for a poor start to an evening out.
I enjoyed my experience, however I reserved a table for 5 on a Saturday night at 6 pm. When I arrived we had to sit at the high tables by the bar because they were seating for their comedy show and could not seat us upstairs. We debated going to another restaurant where we could get a proper table, but in the end decided to stay
. I think it should be mentioned when reserving that certain nights there is only bar seating available. I will definitely keep this in mind for the future if I consider dining here again.
The wait for food was ridiculously long even with a reservation! We ordered our food at 12pm and didn't start eating until 1:15pm. We weren't even comped a meal, just told we can text the event coordinator our food requests before coming and they'll start preparing it then. What a waste.
The service was terrible. We waited 25 minutes for a drink.
I am sorry to say we are not happy with spice monkey. I had a confirmed reservation for 8 people friday, dec 7. The restaurant did not receive our reservation from open table and therefore there was no room for my party. They did try to put us upstairs with 3 tiny tables right next to a jazz trio. It was an uncomfortable situation and we decided to leave the restaurant and eat else where. I was very disappointed and two of our party left for home. The restaurant staff did provide us with a complimentary drink while we waited. Unfortunately, It didn't help matters much. Open table completely dropped the ball.
On our previous visit for lunch, on a week day, the prices on the printed menu were incorrect. The actual price of a salmon add-on to a monkey bowl was higher than quoted.
Average at best. Long wait despite no one there. Mediocre food.
A friend and I took our 5- and 6-year old sons to dinner here in the early evening prior to a kid-friendly show at the Paramount. The servers were so kind and patient with our kiddos, and the food was yummy and arrived quickly! I love the decor and ambience at Spice Monkey, and want to go back for adult beverages sometime soon. Great little downtown spot!
Spice Monkey was a super fun and welcoming restaurant in Downtown Oakland. Enjoyed a delicious "bowl" and added salmon on top. So good! I'll be going back to try the Fried Chicken Sandwich and fries next!
Nice little place downtown Oakland dump, we received a very friendly service, nice stain-glass window at the 2nd floor, quiet food is decent, had the lamb hamburger and arugula salad.
Price is decent, service was fast. good place for quick lunch business meeting.
Spice Monkey is a great spot to get some creative Asian fusion food, or hang at the bar downstairs, before you check out Oakland Comedy on Friday nights.
