Its not too often I'm disappointed with a dining experience. My friend and I had reservations at 7pm and arrived at 7:05. The hostess seated the couple before us and instead of returning to seat us she provided water, etc, for the couple and after approx. 10 minutes she returned to the hostess stand and welcomed us. She then went to bus and prepare the table where we were to be seated. We had to wait another 10 minutes. We were finally seated at 7:30. We sat there for another 10-15 minutes when in exasperation I got a waitpersons attention. She (Amanda) came to our table and seemed to be surprised we had not been served, in any way. Our table was not one of her assigned tables. Her attitude was great and her service was exceptional. What had been a very disappointing dining experience was salvaged by her. Please note that the food was excellent.

Consistently very good food and service. They had a special fixed price multi-course offer during Valentines Day week that was outstanding. Piano player Saturday night took requests and made it lots of fun.

Sperata is one of the better fine dining expereiences in the area. The food is well prepared and flavorfull. The wait staff is very professional and accommodating. Reservations are strongly encouraged as this is a local favorite of distinguishing diners.

Our waiter, Michael, was spot-on. His friendly personality, extreme patience, and menu knowledge were much appreciated.

Disappointed in the fixed menu though -
Had been here before and had a most wonderful meal selection

The food was incredible ! And our waiter was fantastic. The only reason I gave a low score on value was that when I booked the reservation (about a month in advance) there was nothing on the web site re a special menu. They even called to confirm the reservation and did not say anything. But when we arrived we were handed a special 4 course menu that was $95 person ! This was way over our budget and way too much food. We both took home most of the steak. We were too full to eat the dessert but it wasn't type of food that would be good to take home so we at it. We didn't eat all of the 1st course either because we knew we had to save room for the multiple courses.

Valentine's Day dinner, where else would you want to take the love of your life? While I typically don't have the luxury to go out on Valetines due to work obligations, this was a time and situation that worked out perfectly. The food, the ambience it was wonderful. My only issues were my portions and the live music. While I gladly gave my wife the options first, I did notice unequal portion matching on multiple items on the set menus. The music was beautiful, just really loud. I don't know how to play a piano nor make the notes softer while still setting the mood, but it was just slightly overwhelming.
Overall we had a wonderful night with just us and no kids.

Our meal was $267 including tax tip, meal, and wine. It was a set menu: shared large appetizer and shared dessert: we received our own entree and salad. Entree was filet( which was fabulous) and lobster tail-we both agreed it was ok. For $267 I’d rather just go to chops and it would have been cheaper. We’ve been to chops numerous times and never spent $267 and we did order wine appetizer dessert and it was still cheaper. I did call Resturant on Saturday before and they said regular menu ( I figured something special since it was Valentines Day) but hey it was Saturday before Valentines Day what are we supposed to do?? Cancel it?? Hahah.. we wanted something special but no alternatives no substitutions? Won’t recommend. Then when we showed up it was a set menu

I celebrated Valentine's Day with my girlfriend here. The pre-selected menu was outstanding, and the service was fantastic as well. The restaurant is a little pricey, but for a special date that is OK.

We did go on Valentines day, and we didn't know it was a fixed menu, but they did work with us to make a couple of minor changes. The filet was a very good cut that was cooked to perfection. The lava cake dessert was dark chocolate heaven. Wonderful date night. There was an excellent piano player at night too.

Best food I've ever eaten in my life! The Salmon was delectable. The leeks was salacious. The potatoes were tasty and flavored. Even the water tasted better than anything I've tasted in 20 years.

The food was amazing!!! We ordered fried green tomatoes for an appetizer, I had steak and my wife had the salmon. All the portions were very generous and everything we had was delicious... like want to lick the plate delicious (we refrained). We will definitely be back!

This is the third time we have eaten at Sperata and each time we loved it. The food has always been great and the service is also. I have recommended Sperata to friends who have also found it wonderful. Do yourself a favor and try it. You will not be disappointed.

My wife and I were here to celebrate my birthday. We have been here several times and have always been very satisfied.

The food is always of the highest quality and tonight was no exception. Sperata has a great chef !!!!

Presentation and service match the quality of the food !!!!

Ambience is perfect for romantic dining.

Definitely one of the best restaurants in the Gainesville area.

Lots of cheese and cream used in preparing most dishes. The food and wine menu on line are not accurate or up to date. We both had seafood special dish which were well prepared and the CA red blend wine. The service was spotty at best even though the restaurant was not full. The live piano music is a nice touch. Great garlic/butter spread for the fresh warm bread. We will be back someday just not real soon as there are many other fine dining experiences in the area.

I arrived very early, so the waiters where still finalizing the preparation for the evening. Mike welcomed me very nicely and I engaged in a pleasant conversation. His dinner explanations and suggestions turned out to be perfect. I had the house salad and it was arranged very well and tasted excellently. The filet was perfect as well and the sides - selected by the chef - matched wonderfully. The restroom doesn’t hold up to the same level as the dining area and overall it was a bit pricy. However I really enjoyed eating out there. Recommended.

My wife and I eat out alot, the food and service were fantastic. we had there special the chilean sea bass and it just melted in our mouth their sperata house salad was also fantastic but what also made the evening great was our server Oliver he made you feel like part of their family we will be going back we had a great evening

This was the second time visiting this local restaurant. The ambiance and food are very good. The service was a little frantic and off par of equivalent priced restaurants both visits. The wait staff actually mixes the cocktail drinks for their own tables and this just does not work from a timing or presentation standpoint. Drinks are basically plopped onto the table so the waiter can run to his next activity of taking an order, delivering an entree or a bottle of wine. It just appears that the restaurant would be better suited by bringing in a bartender to assist with the drinks prep. Food was very good but for the price you are paying, the wait staff should be able to breath and not seem like they are running at such a frantic pace. It makes you nervous and uncomfortable as a guest!

The food was very good. We had the escargot as an appetizer, I had the rack of Lamb as my entree and my friend had the steak and scallops. It was all delicious! Our bartender, Oliver, served up excellent martinis and our sever, Michael, took good care of us. Although, his attentiveness did slow down as the evening got a little busier. It seemed he was the only waiter for the entire restaurant. But that only consisted of 5-6 tables. However, Oliver filled in as needed.
The one thing that I did not like was Michael reminding us of the "total" bill when we were paying. We had used a $15 of coupon and he made sure to remind us of the "total" , I'm assuming so we so we tipped accordingly. I always tip on the total amount, however I found it offensive for him to allude to that. Really, the service should be the same regardless if you spend $110 or $125.
Otherwise, it was a great experience and I would eat there again.
