Outstanding service and food quality. The meal was cook to perfection and was ready about 15 to 20 minutes after we ordered.
The food is outstanding, but the servers are always short staffed and stressed out. I ask to speak with the owner, but he was unavailable. I emailed him with no response. I do like this restaurant overall, but it is expensive with so-so service, so I likely will not be going back since there are so many nice restaurants in Gwinnett County to choose for now.
This is my go-to for special occasions. The last time was my (hard-of-hearing) father's birthday with two sisters. It was perfect. Oliver is the best; always makes me feel welcome.
Several of our dining party chose the monkfish special and it was fantastic!!!! Several ordered the steak and it was delicious too. Terrific service!
The food here was very delicious. My husband loved the steak, and he is very hard to please when it comes to steak! The piano music was very pretty as well.
The food and service here are stellar. This is our favorite special occasion place. Always a treat.
Presentation ... presentation, for every meal this means a lot as a expectation for high end meals.
The meal was very well prepared but it was too busy in its presentation. Try reducing and separating side items from what’s plated so it highlights the main course and reduce the bombardment of excess vegetables that are mixed together and are visually messy.
Love this place. Excellent service, food, decor. Could not be better. Well worth the drive from Atlanta. Highly recommend it.
Great location and ambiance but the food wasn’t anything special and the presentation Had a lot to be desired. In the darkness I wasn’t even sure what I was eating as the thick sauces covered all the food and the price didn’t warrant the food taste or quality.
I would like to reach out and speak with Sperata regarding my Valentines Day experience with your restaurant. My reservation was for my husband and I at 8:45 on 2/14/20. We arrived at 8:10 and went upstairs to relax at the bar area while awaiting our table. We got seated and ordered our selections for the 3 course meal. I had already been texting with Chris for days regarding our menu choices. Our entrees were to include : crab cake, escargot, 2 filets, cesear salad, and the sticky toffee pudding. We enjoyed our escargot and crab cake, and waited for our main meal of filets (to be cooked medium, and medium well) - When we received the filets at about 9:30pm/ they were RARE. And I mean very rare and cold in the middle. Honestly, we couldn’t really determine the items on our plate except the filet on top. The other items were purée and undistinguished. I was so saddened because our previous experience at sperata was so wonderful that we took snapshots and posted them online and raved! But this time I was so embarrassed and I didn’t even want to take a photo, I was just upset as I excused myself to the ladies room. Our waiter was scatterbrained as he ran up/down the stairs to get our bread/butter, etc. we had to ask him for refills several times. When we spoke with him regarding our filets, he was very nervous and it apparent that he was unsure of the next step to take. We politely asked him for the check- it was close to 10pm at that point. I had been so excited to dine again at Sperata. We paid for our 2 appetizers $50, plus our drinks. I really just needed to let you know of the issues that we experienced on our special day that was a complete disaster. We had our hopes set so high, because our previous experience was beyond amazing/ this was a complete disaster. We had planned for weeks to get a reservation set for our romaintic dinner, and it was such a bust.
A great Valentine date! We did the four course special menu with wine pairing and were not disappointed. We had high expectations, from an over the top experience just over a year ago. Being Valentine’s Day, we expected a little strain on the service. But we ended up in their upstairs private dining area which is an extremely romantic setting with soft music. So nice for our extended evening. But while the food was a mixture of wonderful flavors... the topper was our waiter. I don’t remember his name, but I watched him work the whole room, taking a general interest in every table and following wit spot-on service. A real talent. It was a three hour experience which thanks to the excellent service, was an evening to remember.

Food was good, with larger portions. However service was only so so. We had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated as one server was on the phone taking a reservation, using the only I pad which appeared to be the location of the seating chart and the reason the other server could not verify our reservation and seat us. There were only 2 other tables seated as we walked in. Once seated we waited about 15 minutes before someone took our order. Finally the server who originally seated us came over and said oh o guess I will take your order. We asked if we should only give our drinks and appetizer order, and the server said he would take our entire order through desert at that time. Food took longer than expected based on the number of tables seated. The food was hot and good with large portions once it arrived. After we finished the entree course, the waiter asked if we wanted to order desert, to which we reminded him we already had. Again food was good with large portions, however with tip included meal was over $200. With this cost we would have expected better service .
I read a previous review about our waiter, that he was too talkative. I found him to be attentive, knowledgeable, and polite. He may have read the review and changed his style. We enjoyed our meal and the service. Lovely place.
Greeted with menu scratch’s and unavailable wines. Server was not knowledgeable of menu items available and had to continue asking the kitchen for details. Food was average at best..then add in poor service with unavailable menu and wines (presented on their menu site specific for the holiday) equates to major disappointment- two stars is generous. Will try again nor recommend.
Sperata has been a date night favorite since moving to Buford. The food is always outstanding. Oliver takes excellent care of us and makes the very best Makers Mark Manhattan. I recommend a evening during the week as the restaurant can get quite busy, and for good reason! The prices are reasonable, the wine list is great and of course the cocktails are better than Buckhead any day. The lamb is second to none. I would rate it higher than 5 stars if I could.
My wife and I went to this restaurant about 6 months ago and again tonight. Last time, they had problems getting the food right. I thought it might have been just a fluke, but unfortunately food problems again. If you are going to charge $50 per person, I think that at least the food should be right even if other things aren't. Multiple issues tonight.
1. My wife and I were on a romantic date, but our waiter, Clayton, thought we were there to talk to him and learn about his snowboarding adventures and to tell him all about us, etc. He couldn't seem to get a hint.
2. I told Clayton to make sure, very sure, that my steak is actually cooked medium-WELL, NOT medium-rare as has happened to me in the past. "Oh, yes sir, I will," says Clayton. It came medium rare, of course, pink all the way through.
3. I asked a passing waiter (Clayton's buddy, I guess) if I could see the manager. Turns out that, no, I couldn't, but he could take care of my problem. I told him about the steak and he examined it. He said it looked medium well to him. I had to insist that it wasn't and explain to him how medium well means a little pink in the center. "So, you want me to have it cooked some more?" he asks. Yes, I tell him. Off he trots.
4. When my spinach and arugala salad came, it was missing a key ingredient--spinach! After I managed to get Clayton's attention, he said he would take care of it, which he did by bringing me a bowl of raw spinach! A supposedly upscale restaurant would know enough to just bring me another salad. I sent the bowl of spinach back with the explanation that I am not a horse.
5. When it came time to pay the bill, Clayton was hovering over me to see what tip I was going to enter on his electronic pad. I asked him if I had to do the tip right in front of him and he said he could walk away while I did that (which he did). I gave him a $5 tip for a $112 check, which I think was generous.
I was glad to get out of there and will not be going back.
The sauce the mussels were in was outstanding. The bread they serve is new and a keeper. Oliver (our waiter) was his usual charming self . My first time enjoying monk fish was great especially since the chef added some shrimp.
The service was bad we asked to split the meal the served and charged us for two meals. Once the food was delivered we never AW the waiter until the bill came. To be fair the young man was new and had an 8 top. My frustration is more with the two senior waiters that seemed to be letting him struggle. I won’t return.
It was the first visit for my husband, my friends, and myself on a rainy Monday evening, January 13th, 2020! We were greeted by our waiter, Oliver, who sat us at a lovely table under a chandelier and proceded to provide us with a remarkably good dining experience. The food was wonderful, as was the atmosphere of this excellent, unexpected gem of a restaurant and dining experience. They have classical music on weekends by an experienced pianist, with Van Gogh on the walls. Go; you'll love it!

Went there for New Year’s Eve dinner before going out. It was a set menu for the holiday. The dinner and wine pairing were amazing!! Service was very good and the live music was perfect ambience for an amazing meal!! It was a bit pricy, but well worth it for a special occasion.

Going to Sperata for Christmas Eve Dinner has become a tradition for my sister and I. It's part of our Christmas gift to each other. Michael our server was wonderful and attentive his service was great. The food ....what can I say was awesome....very tasty and nicely plated. From the onion tart, lamb chops, pork tenderloin to the creme brulee each bite was fantastic. The atmosphere is very quaint and quiet enough that you can easily have a conversation without speaking loudly. In life you get what you pay for and Sperata is priced fairly but for us it's definitely a special occasion place to dine.
We celebrated my husband’s birthday and the experience was delightful!

Waited an hour for mains, none of our appetizers (which did show up relatively quickly, relative only to the mains) were remarkable (to err on the side of politeness). Even after asking for our mains to be wrapped rather than served, we waited another ten minutes only to be presented with a bill overcharging us, and not even the slightest mention of an apology or accommodation; instead, it was suggested that next time we tell them we have plans after. Of course our waiter also claimed they had a large party upstairs that had caused the delay, so what good it would’ve done for us to tell them we wanted things to move at a normal pace I don’t know. Bottom line: there’s no reason to visit this place.

Overall it was very nice but seeing that it was our anniversary, as well as our friends, we expected a little more than what we received!
