Steak was cooked exactly to specifications. The shareables were exactly that, enough for two people and a good deal. Good service without hovering. Atmosphere is what you expect out of a higher end steakhouse. All around great dining experience.
We go to Spencer’s for special occasions, and the food is usually excellent. In this case it was my wife’s 65th birthday. We started by ordering a bottle of wine & the crab cakes appetizer. The crab cakes were great but they were out of the $40 bottle of wine we ordered so the waitress recommended a local cab instead, which was $52.00. OK, it was a special occasion. We then ordered a Caesar salad, a side of garlic mashed potatoes & their signature rib-eye steak to split. The salad was fine, but when they brought the steak & asked us to cut it in half, I knew I was in trouble when I had a hard time getting my steak knife to cut thru my steak. About 3/4 of the way thru I could see it was on the rare side of rare rather than the medium we had requested. I also noticed several strands of gristle & tendons, which was why it wasn’t cutting easily. I sent my piece back & my wife decided to keep hers - even though it was not the medium cook we’d requested. The garlic mashed potatoes were good, but by the time my steak came back they were getting cold. I spent the rest of the meal cutting the fat & gristle from the edible portions of the steak, which was close to half the volume. I know that rib-eye is highly marbled, which is what gives it all the flavor. This was not marbling, but rather large hunks of fat & strips of leather-like gristle. In my opinion, not edible. When our waitress came by to see how our meal was, I told her it was not great, and pointed out all the fat & gristle. She offered to replace the steak but by this time the potatoes were cold & I just wanted to finish the meal, so I told her I would work around it. A little while later the manager came by to check on us & I showed her the pile of fat & gristle (which she agreed was inedible). She offered to comp our dessert, which we appreciated, but overall I was disappointed with the experience. We paid over $190.00 with tip, and split most of what we ordered. A $50+ steak should be a quality piece of meat.
I have been dinning at Spokane Spencer for many years. I am alway satisfied with the food and service. There are other restaurants in the area that feature Steaks & Chops, Spencers is by far my favorite. If want to try a unique steak Spencers features the Zabuton cut from Snake River Farms in Idaho. Snake River Farms is known for their quality beed, especially their American Wagyu. I had three guests from out of town try the Zabuton's.... they all said it was the BEST steak they had ever eaten. That says a lot for three guys who travel the world on a regular basis.
Always great! French onion soup is amazing. Iceberg wedge is amazing. Steak sandwichesl is pretty good
Service was slow totally over priced will not go back there are several other fine dining restaurants in the Spokane area that are worth the money this place was not. Completely disappointing
My apologies for slow service, the night you dined with us was our second night being open to the public since we closed down in March. We did get busy, and with a team that has not worked in 8 months we did have a few kinks to work out. Please be patient with us as we work though our kinks in making sure service is great and we are making all standards per the state to keep everyone safe.
We celebrated my birthday with my mom in from Los Angeles. The service from start to finish was exceptional! The food and drinks were perfect!
Alisha was great. Steak a bit tough for a prime fillet. Cook as requested. $25 for the steak not a great value. $20 would be more appropriate.
The gluten free dessert options and drink pairings for restaurant were a bore. Every restaurant has a flourless chocolate cake and a creme brulee. I expected to be wowed. However, the entrees were outstanding.
Our go to dinner venue before shows at the Performing Arts Theatre. Never disappoints!
Portions exceedingly small for the cost. Very disappointed.
Sorry to hear you thought our portions were small. If you came in for restaurant week our menu does have smaller than our normal cuts of steak. This is because we serve high quality prime grade steaks, it gets very costly, so we do slightly smaller portions for the 3 course restaurant week menu. We have lots of different cost effective options and a great happy hour as well. Hope you will give us another try.
Food is fantastic. Service was very good. Restaurant is an old fashion steak house feel, but appropriate for the cuisine. Wine list is extensive.
We go and dine at Spencer’s regularly and we have never been disappointed! The staff is always courteous friendly and efficient. Josh was our server ! He was great !
Our first time at Spencer’s and the food and service were amazing!
Only during restaurant week. Very expensive otherwise.
Prices were more than I expected BUT the steak was over the top- outstanding!!!
Great experience last visit. Recently stopped taking reservations. I’m not happy about that. I prefer to dine in restaurants that take reservations to minimize COVID exposure in common areas waiting for a table
Thanks for the review. We currently have our reservations shut down due to COVID and the seating being very limited (5 bar booths). We are only open part of the week with very limited hours and menus, mostly for our hotel guests at this point as we start to reopen more of our services. We have taken every precaution for COVID including waiting areas in our hotel lobby, since reservations are not being accepted at this time its on a first come first serve basis. Thank you for understanding.
Nice place, but extremely loud. We both had Ribeye steak, one was good, the other was tough and over cooked
Great food,Great service!! I would highly recommend Spencers for a romantic dinner.
My husband and I both agree, one of the best meals we’ve ever had and the service was exceptional!
The food could have been better but the overall experience was good.
It had been years since we had been to Spencer’s.. While there have been some big changes in presentation of menu, appearance of staff, Carrie (GM) seems to have a good staff. Ryan did a nice job as our server.. it was busy due to Valentines Day, we still had a wonderful meal.
The Valentine's Day menu was so good! Crystal's service could not have been better! Will be back!
Excellent evening however, our server went out and smoked and when they came back to the table you could smell it.
Thank you for your review, you are correct this is something we do address. Thank you for letting us know, we will correct this issue. Hope to see you back soon.
Always a good experience. Service was great. Ribeye was awesome!
We were sadly disappointed not just this visit but also the visit prior. The steaks used to be fantastic and worth the drive over from our small town. I couldn't say that dinner was worth the drive let alone the $200.00 price tag that didn't include drinks or dessert for two. Next time we get to go to town, I'm going to choose to go to dinner somewhere else.
Michelle, I'm sorry to hear our steaks were not satisfactory this visit or last. We have not changed the prime grade of our steaks or our preparation of them. I'm not sure where our problem lies. We will fix any issues that arise during service our servers are empowered to Make it Right. If you decided to come back we will make sure its satisfactory for you.
Excellent service and the food was delicious. The waiter was outstanding!
From the time that I walked in, the stewardess was friendly and had already had my table set for me. My waiter was very personable, friendly, helpful, and considerate. My overall experience was perfect, and plan on going back very soon.
For those who aren’t very hungry but love salad and meat, I recommend their garden salad and ask for chick on it (it wasn’t on the menu but it was sooo good)!
Great food, great drinks, great service, never disappoints.
Broadway show with friends
Excellent place to dine, on an infrequent basis. (Prices a little stiff...)
Was excellent service and food was very good. I have been to a lot of steak houses this was by far the most expensive. It was good, not sure it was worth the money though. Won’t likely return.
Spencer's food is very good. The steaks are nicely prepared, good quality. The sides are appropriate portions, not excessive but plenty, and are enjoyable. The wine selection is decent. My complaint is that our server didn't know how to handle wine... she struggled with the cork, when I asked for it to be decanted she placed a carafe over the bottle and flipped the two, dumping the $200+ cab into the small narrow carafe instead of pouring, took the bottle away after this disturbing display, poured half the bottle into our glasses, and at the end took the carafe away without emptying it. I've never seen such horror and disrespect of wine at a decent restaurant before. I'm afraid to order wine there again, if we go back... and feel cheated out of what could've been an overall fun experience.
Mariah I'm sorry to hear about your experience in Spencer's, our servers are wine trained on different ways of decanting wine to allow the optimal amount of aeration in the wine, although this might not of looked liked a professional way of doing it table side. We always use comments like yours as a training tool for our team to fine tune our service. I hope that when you come in again, we can show you our service & wine handling are up to the standard of Spencer's as you have come to know us.
We ate there on the night of January 4th. The food and service were fantastic. Unfortunately, I ended up getting really sick a few hours after eating there. I am only pointing it out in case I wasn't the only one you heard from that night. I had the parmesan-encrusted halibut and the mashed potatoes, with some bread and butter before that. My wife had the filet mignon, potatoes, and bread, and she felt fine. I will still come back at some future date.
While I believe Spencer's to be a bit pricey, the "shareable" portions are huge and our steaks were done to absolute perfection. Our server ("Diddio") was a true gentleman, and though it was late on New Year's Eve he did not reduce his level of service and was present and attentive without being intrusive. This is a lovely venue, quiet and refined with very friendly staff...the bar has a wonderful and reasonable Happy Hour with delicious food and great, attentive service. We were seated in the precise location for dinner I requested via Open Table.
Thank you for your great review and wonderful comments about Didio, we truly enjoy having him on our team! Hope to see you back again :)
Amazing! Our server was attentive and knowledgeable! Will definitely be back!
Thank you for the great review!
Excellent as usual!!
Christmas. Perfect.
Their fries are the best of any place!! Food was absolutely delicious!!! Will definitely go again!!
Relaxing dinner with a friend
We were 45 min getting seated. After 30 minutes they did give us a table in the bar and around the free drinks which is very nice but it took 15 minutes to get our drinks. Once we were seated it took another 15 minutes just to get our orders in even though we told them we had our orders already when we sat down. The mashed potatoes were called and the broccolini were so over steamed they were soggy.
I knew the price of the steaks would be high but not $60 high. Which is my fault I should have researched the price of the restaurant before I went there. I will never return their
Shelly, I'm sorry about your Spencer's experience on Saturday night, we just could not get it right. The Manager tried everything she could to get you seated as soon as possible, we were extremely busy this night and our reservations were sitting longer than normal. Again I'm really sorry for this experience, I do hope you will give us another try in the future, we can do better.
