Speisekammer Ratings and Reviews
My friend invited me the first time I came for the live music, which I really enjoyed.
I invited my two friends, because they are fans and we ordered light meals, which were
served with friendly servers.
We got a table reservation on line so it was ready when we got there.
We had a great time.
My husband and I enjoy trying any German restaurant we come across. Based on reviews, we were very excited to try Speisekammer!
We started with their Potato Pancakes and Pretzel with Beer Cheese dipping sauce. Both were enjoyable but definitely not the best we’ve eaten in our experiences at other German establishments. The Potato Pancakes were light and crispy but with little seasoning/flavor. The Pretzel was very chewy in a stale sort of way...however the delicious Beer Cheese dipping sauce masked that nicely.
For our entrees, my husband enjoyed the Sauerbraten. It was a decent amount of meat with a luscious gravy and classic sides of Spatzle and Red Cabbage. Both sides were mediocre. I ordered their baked Spatzle (think of a German take on Mac N Cheese.) They used rich and decadent cheeses and came nice and hot. I was given the option to add ham or bacon for an additional charge and I chose ham. Nice and necessary addition! Also for an additional charge, you can have their side salad - I highly recommend AGAINST this...chopped lettuce, pickled veggies all drenched in what tasted like the pickling vinegar. Waste.
Drinks. Although they had many options for many patrons (children, non alcoholic, wine, beer, cocktails...) we were so disappointed in the small amount of German beers on tap. Needless to say, my husband had soda and I tried a nice light Austrian wight wine.
Staff. Very friendly, attentive and informative! They gave us a beautiful cozy table at their romantic fireplace. Beautiful!
Love the ambience like a European pub or bar, with a collection of steins on the wall and other decorations. Food is good, with good service. What attracted us was the live music Friday and Saturday nights. There are two rooms, one with cozy booths, another with tables, and the garden outside. Loved the roasted butternut squash. Beer is delicious!
Late Saturday lunch. Even though the menu was shortened, it was perfect for trying new dishes and sharing a meal. The fish platter was exceptional. The pretzel with cheese sauce was a hit. Of course the beer selection is what it should be in a German restaurant....love the black beer. Always a great place. Highly recommend .
We have been coming here for quite a while and just love the food, ambience and great staff! Everyone is very friendly and professional, and it is so great to have them always come by to be sure we are never out of water or ask if there is anything else we need. (It is nice to come to a restaurant where a customer doesn't have to ask for these small things). Our favorite dishes are the Potato Soup, the Pork Wienerschnitzel, Sauerbraten and Bratwurst entrees, and their roasted potatoes with bacon bits. Even their bread and the buttery concoction they serve is delicious. The desserts are good too, especially when the dessert chef whips up the delicious toffee cream brulee. We have never been disappointed at this restaurant and the prices are very reasonable too! It will continue to be one of our favorites. The only negative thing is that sometimes parking can be a problem, especially during Fridays and Saturday evenings.
We took visiting family over Thanksgiving, not once, but twice! And in the summer, I took visiting friends twice. The staff is so refreshingly welcoming. Talia was our wait person the first time....wonderful and positive and engaging. Marco was our second trip and he was amazingly tolerant, funny, attentive. Kindness prevails at this local gem that has become our go-to favorite. Thank you so much!
I have been here a bunch of times and loved it each time! The food, beer, atmosphere and service is great. It is a bit slow as they are always busy but the food is worth the wait. It's noisy so if that's not your thing ask to sit in the back area. The main winners: Potato pancake and pretzel with beer cheese...drool
