Speisekammer Ratings and Reviews
Love the ambience like a European pub or bar, with a collection of steins on the wall and other decorations. Food is good, with good service. What attracted us was the live music Friday and Saturday nights. There are two rooms, one with cozy booths, another with tables, and the garden outside. Loved the roasted butternut squash. Beer is delicious!
Late Saturday lunch. Even though the menu was shortened, it was perfect for trying new dishes and sharing a meal. The fish platter was exceptional. The pretzel with cheese sauce was a hit. Of course the beer selection is what it should be in a German restaurant....love the black beer. Always a great place. Highly recommend .
We have been coming here for quite a while and just love the food, ambience and great staff! Everyone is very friendly and professional, and it is so great to have them always come by to be sure we are never out of water or ask if there is anything else we need. (It is nice to come to a restaurant where a customer doesn't have to ask for these small things). Our favorite dishes are the Potato Soup, the Pork Wienerschnitzel, Sauerbraten and Bratwurst entrees, and their roasted potatoes with bacon bits. Even their bread and the buttery concoction they serve is delicious. The desserts are good too, especially when the dessert chef whips up the delicious toffee cream brulee. We have never been disappointed at this restaurant and the prices are very reasonable too! It will continue to be one of our favorites. The only negative thing is that sometimes parking can be a problem, especially during Fridays and Saturday evenings.
We took visiting family over Thanksgiving, not once, but twice! And in the summer, I took visiting friends twice. The staff is so refreshingly welcoming. Talia was our wait person the first time....wonderful and positive and engaging. Marco was our second trip and he was amazingly tolerant, funny, attentive. Kindness prevails at this local gem that has become our go-to favorite. Thank you so much!
I have been here a bunch of times and loved it each time! The food, beer, atmosphere and service is great. It is a bit slow as they are always busy but the food is worth the wait. It's noisy so if that's not your thing ask to sit in the back area. The main winners: Potato pancake and pretzel with beer cheese...drool
We ordered a variety of starters (potato pancakes) and mains (schnitzel, turkey schnitzel, meatloaf and onions) for a family and friends get-together. The potato pancakes were just okay with the applesauce being pretty basic (bland). I can skip this next time and make it at home since they weren't to our liking. The other dishes were quite flavorful and filling. The overall restaurant vibe was definitely lively with the band playing. However, the noise level made it difficult to enjoy any conversation...and we were in a separate room. I can only imagine trying to eat and carry conversation in the main dining room and bar area. Overall, not a bad choice for German food in the East Bay.
In Germany, each brewery has their own unique glassware or mug for serving their beers. Spaesekammer has managed to acquire this glassware to serve whatever beer selection you choose in the genuine glassware from that brewery...very cool. The food is quite good and reasonably priced.
I took my 8 year old here on our quest to discover new food. We ordered several appetizers including the potato pancakes, the Fisch-Platt (variety of fish with salad), and the KÄSEBRETT
MIT FRÜCHTEN (fruit and cheese plate). We ordered a small size but they were still really big portions. We didn't care for the potato pancakes (I thought they were mushy inside) but everything else was good. My 8 year old liked the pickled herring - who would have thought. We ordered the JÄGER SCHNITZEL for dinner. Neither one of us cared for the Spätzle but the SCHNITZEL was good. To be fair, I've never really cared for Spätzle so I don't think that it was a reflection on the restaurant. Another person with us ordered the Flat Iron Steak which was the special. They said that it was very good. We of course had Strudel for desert. All in all, it was a fun experience and we will go back.
Service is very good. We asked to be seater closer to the live music and they were very accommodating. The food is good... wish they had more vegetarian options. I think there could be more salads and fresh vegetables. Their vinegar salads are too vinegary.
