We really enjoyed Speisekammer! It’s a cozy place with lots of authentic German touches without being dark or gloomy. There was an excellent selection of German and local beers and wines. We have a lot of experience with German food, one of us having grown up in a German family. So trust us when we say the food is very authentic, freshly prepared, and plentiful...come hungry! For appetizers we had the Reibekuchen (potato pancakes), which were delicious but we felt the apple sauce was oddly gloopy (cornstarch?), and the Fischplatte, which was very fresh and provided a little salad. For entrees we had the Sauerbraten (very tender marinated and slow cooked beef), which was very good and had a nice sour tang to the sauce as it should, and the Wienerschnitzel which was also hearty and very tasty and came with some of the best roast potatoes I’ve had at a restaurant (courtesy of onions and bacon). Our only disappointment was the red cabbage that came with the Sauerbraten was also gloopy with cornstarch: not needed and a little out of place. We rinsed the leftovers before reheating the next day and they were wonderful. Service was courteous and attentive without being intrusive. Parking is a little limited/tricky so allow time to find street parking. We will definitely be back when in the area.
Upon arrival the hostess was very welcoming, and we were seated right away, even though not all of our party had arrived. Our waiter was super friendly and knowledgeable about the foods. The meal and drinks were outstanding. This was our second time there will continue to come for special occasions.
Drove across the Bay with a friend who loves German food as much as I do. We made a reservation for lunch and were seated right next to the cozy fireplace. While everyone else was on a buying binge for the holidays, we had the most wonderful Wienerschnitzel I've had outside of Vienna. TO DIE FOR! The side potatoes were heavenly, and my friend subbed hers out for spaetzle that she enjoyed as well. I had the draft Bitburger Pilsener and my friend had an Amber Hefeweizen that our server brought her to taste first against a sample of the usual one. Apple strudel for her and Mohnstrudel for me - yummy!
I will be back and soon for this fine food! I cannot wait to try the sauerbraten and other awesome things on the menu. If you like German food, or even just good food, check this place out. Would love to come back in the evening when there's live music, or on a warm day to sit outside in the biergarten.
The only minimal downside was that we parked in the slim alley of parking area immediately to the right of the restaurant thinking that it must lead out to a street on the other side. It does not! We had to back out onto the street in a very narrow alley and could not see the traffic coming. Thank goodness new cars have cameras everywhere. It was pouring and difficult to see. Perhaps they could add parking suggestions to their website? This was a tiny headache in the end, but I would have appreciated knowing about it in advance. Danke!
Service is lacking. Tables need cleaning. Very little parking availability.
Our company had our first Christmas Party at this place because of our love for German food and beer, along with the good reviews they had. We drove from Sacramento to Alameda and we are glad we did. We had a great time and really enjoyed the service along with the quality food and beer. We plan on coming back for October. Thank you to all of the staff for dealing with us if we were a little too loud.
Excellent dinner of roast goose and other delicious dishes. Service was top notch as always
Awesome drinks and outstanding service. Entertaining music making the experience perfect for a weekend evening.
Always good beer, food and service. That’s why we keep coming back!!
Best German food out there.
For some reason our group of 3 was put in the room for large parties and one group was quite noisy. I do not know why we were not put in another room which only had tables for up to four.
Third and likely last visit. Food was really sub-par. Potato pancakes were absolutely tasteless. It was just a deep fried nothing. Brussel sprouts were overcooked and way too salty. Entrees also way too salty and spaetzle was bland and barely warm. The din in the room was deafening. Overall it was a bummer.
Outstanding restaurant. One of my favorites. Very fog friendly. And of course excellent beer.
Everyone raved about the potato bacon soup, the beed goulash, and the sauerbraten. But unfortunately, they were out of the pork belly special even though we were there at 6:00 PM on a Saturday. They were very busy, so service was hit or miss.
Loved the food.
Loved the beer.
Loved the dessert!
Our server was great, attentive and efficient.
The only issue was they said I called to change our reservation to Sunday! On Friday, I received a text to confirm Saturday, which I did. I even received an email confirming Saturday! They did find us a table.
I will return for the curry wurst!
The best German restaurant in the SFBA! I grew up with German food and when we discovered Speisekammer, I was ecstatic - the schnitzel, spaetzle, braised sauerkraut, potato pancakes, stuffed cabbage rolls! If the goulash is on the specials menu, don't miss it - it's made with true Hungarian sweet paprika, the way it should be. They even have currywurst, LOL. The service is always excellent, something those trendy hot bistros opening up everywhere, should try harder to copy. The beer list is amazing, too!
Food was terrific, service very prompt and friendly, parking is problematic. Beer cheese & pretzel was the bomb! Definitely will be back.
Speisekammer offers a wonderful selection of German foods, all that seem true to the land.
Service is very good. Staff is very friendly, welcoming, and helpful.
I love this place and the food never disappoints. Everything on the menu is extremely good. It can get a little loud, and it’s more of a family style restaurant than a dressy place, but it perfect for a date at anytime of the day.
Love this place. the food is outstanding and the service is great. It's loud, so, be warned. :)
Amazing food (hello, comfort food at its best!l), wonderful service, great wine list, neighborhood vibe, so warm and friendly! Extremely happy to have this restaurant in our neighborhood!
Once we were seated in a quieter space, we had a wonderful dinner. The rolled beef was out of this world, with enough for a dinner or lunch at home too! The spaetzel, red cabbage, potato pancakes with sweet mustard and apple sauce were all yummy. My sibs’ Sauerbrauten lived up to her very high expectations! Great restaurant for German fare, good service and European flair.
Unfortunately, this place lacks the quality that modern German cuisine has to offer. The Reibekuchen were either overcooked or previously frozen and therefore were a disappointment.
The German-style salad had no quality and no imagination to it and is not up to the standard in a good German restaurant.
The Jaegerschnitzel's sauce was ultra bland and I have no idea who this was made, but no! This is not a Jaegerschnitzel.
The Wienerschnitzel's veal was hard to eat and unevenly pounded (a hallmark feature of a good German or Austrian Wiener Schnitzel).
So an attempt to get a taste from home failed badly. I should have stuck with Naschmarkt in Campbell. I am so terribly sorry that this wants to portrait German food, at best a less than good restaurant in a small German village. I have the feeling that this was the understanding of a non-German Chef, who was never trained in a German kitchen. I would hire a consultant chef trainer to get this kitchen up to modern standards.
It is neither worth the money, nor the time it took to get there.
Lil spendy but good times for sure. Relaxed place with hearty food
All innovative and delicious!! Schnitzels ti due for = yum!
One of my favorite to go to get some very yummy German food.
If you want to try awesome German eats, you just gotta go! The beer, food , ambiance and service was awesome!
Our go to restaurant.....always satisfied with the authentic German cuisine.
Speisekammer is an amazing restaurant.
The food is delicious and tastes homemade
All the dishes are hearty and good
Bring your appetite.
The service is efficient and great.
The hot chocolate is a treat. Tastes homemade.
The atmosphere is cordial and fun.
I haven’t been to Germany but I feel like I’m there.
Great outdoor seating
It’s a cozy restaurant so I like going when it cold.
Good German food and the band was excellent as well. I recommend Speisekammer for all how to love German food and good music.
Our favorite German restaurant...so reminiscent of many of the restaurants in
Bavaria, loud, fun, active, delicious and entertaining.
An East Bay gem if you appreciate German fare and a large selection of draught German beers.
The food was good. The noise level was very very high
We had an excellent meal at a very reasonable price
We had a very enjoyable experience once again at Speisekammer...
We had a great get together for a 70th birthday party!
Enjoyed the German authentic food and drinks!
Great traditional German vibe for Octoberfest. Good Saturday music. Never disappoints.
It is a good place to hang out with friends!
A perfect Octoberfest meal, Dining outside with steins of beer and a great roast pork!
Love going to Octoberfest. Great beer. Great food overall! .
Great restaurant with good food, large portions and helpful service. It was a bit loud this Saturday due to the large crowd of people that were dining here. Maybe Oktoberfest puts everyone in the mood for German food. Great neighborhood restaurant.
Delicious and great staff!
